Olivia Shipp was a Colonial Marine who spent her adult life fighting Xenomorphs after surviving the 2172 outbreak on Zagreus, when the hive killed her parents, in Mira Grant's Alien: Echo. She later served as a corporal at the first Katanga siege, as a captain with Zula Hendricks' Jackals, as colonel of the UAS Endeavor in Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and as a general in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. In 2207 she shot Dr. Pearce on the LV-558 campaign and sent the closing report from the Endeavor.
Alien: Echo
Shipp was born on 5 January 2155 to xenobiologists John and Katherine Shipp. Her twin Viola died at three from an autoimmune disease. The parents built an advanced android from brain scans, video, and dream recordings, then kept Olivia moving from world to world under the story that they were hunting a cure. By seventeen she had lived on at least fifteen colonies, including Sirius XI and Curtis' Paradise, and she already knew how to fly the family shuttle While There's Hope.
In 2172 the family took a contract on Zagreus, an Earth-like world with twin suns, to catalogue the wildlife for the colonial governor. Olivia went to school in the settlement. Viola stayed home and studied online, which made classmates doubt she existed. Governor's daughter Kora Burton used that rumor as a reason to visit, then stayed because she and Olivia wanted the same thing. Olivia later pulled Kora out of a lion-worm attack in a flower clearing by using what she knew of the local animals.
John joined a survey of a derelict science ship the governor had bought from smugglers. Katherine went into the field after a new carnivorous grass. The sisters used the empty house for a party with Kora, Michel Petrov, Alisa, Juan, Lin, and Paul. John's recorded warning cut the party off. Something on the wreck had killed Michel's mother and was already on the shuttle back to Zagreus. The creatures killed John on the transmission, and the shuttle crashed in the mountains about fifty miles away.
Viola ran for their mother. Olivia, Kora, Michel, and Paul went after the family ATV and found her in the flower patch, where two of the creatures attacked. They ignored Viola and killed Paul. A Zagreus hippo driven by Katherine hit the second animal, and Olivia found her mother by a lake. Back at the house Katherine told her the truth: the real Viola had died at three, and the sister Olivia had grown up with was a synthetic. Viola already knew. When a creature hit the residence, Katherine gave Olivia a backpack with a Colonial Marine pistol and Viola's schematics, then let the hive take her so the teenagers could run for the walls.
Michel tried to keep Viola outside the gates because she was not a "real person." Olivia beat him for that, then a creature took him anyway. Viola soaked herself in blood and drew the hunt off so Olivia and the others could get inside. Governor Delia Burton had bought the science ship for scrap and colony expansion, then sent a team when she realized it was still heading for a secret company facility.
Olivia went back out with Kora to recover Viola. Topographic maps put the hive in caves near the crash, and they found Michel, his mother, Paul, and a mass of local wildlife cocooned there. Damaged Viola ordered Olivia to take her head so they could move. Olivia used lion-worm scent to set a local predator on a chasing adult, then drove the ATV into wetlands where territorial hippos finished the job and she shot the remaining adult Xenomorph.
The main colony had already fallen. They found Delia cocooned in her apartment after a creature had set a flower-like egg on her and a Facehugger had sealed in place. A lion-worm hybrid tore Delia apart when she covered Kora. At the spaceport Olivia lost Viola's head, lured the hybrid onto a catwalk, dropped it into scrap, and shot it in the head. Kora recovered the head. The three boarded While There's Hope, and in orbit Olivia lit the emergency beacon, warned ships off Zagreus, and asked for medical help.
Rising Threat And The First Katanga
Rescue later pulled Olivia, Kora, and Viola off the shuttle. Shipp enlisted on her eighteenth birthday, 5 January 2173, less than a year after Zagreus. She had no diploma. Test scores and Katherine's honorable Marine discharge got her an exemption, and she trained at MCRD Fort Matthewson on Hellas Planitia.
Dark Horse announced Aliens: Colonial Marines - Rising Threat in 2019 as an eight-issue follow-up to Aliens: Rescue and a tie-in to the then-upcoming Fireteam Elite game. The solicits put Corporal Shipp in command of tired Marines on the USS Typhoon who broke orders to pull survivors out of the Katanga refinery. The series was cancelled before issue one after Dark Horse dropped writer Brian Wood.
Fireteam Elite's later crew file kept that mission as Corps history. In 2177, twenty-two-year-old Corporal Shipp was aboard the twenty-year-old Nassau-class attack transport Typhoon when it caught a Mid Rim distress call. Seegson colonists had fled a surface outbreak into orbital Katanga, and some of them were already carrying Chestbursters. A refinery worker with a grudge against his bosses overrode the computers and destroyed the Marine dropships when they refused to let him "fix" the infestation. Shipp moved the remaining civilians from the top of Likasi Tower down to the shuttle hangars at Bashi Tower, fighting both the hive and the worker's attempts to turn Katanga's machinery on them. They escaped on refinery shuttles. Reinforcements arrived, the Typhoon's unit stood down, and Katanga was reported scuttled. Shipp received the Marine Commendation Medal. The hulk was not gone for good. Years later Seegson's old ice mine sat in orbit over LV-895 as a Weyland-Yutani hive.
Inferno's Fall
In 2179 Shipp entered the USCM Enlisted to Officer Program. She lacked the usual school papers, scored in the 98th percentile on the AFQT, and went to OCS Happy Days on Helene. During field exercises at the mining settlement Dažbog, she read the local sand lice well enough to keep several classmates alive.
By about 2187 she held captain's rank in the Jackals, a USCM unit that Zula Hendricks ran with UPP and Three World Empire troops from the warship Righteous Fury. In Alien: Inferno's Fall, by Philippa Ballantine from a story with Clara Carija, an Engineer Juggernaut dumped Black Goo on the UPP mining world Shānmén and turned the colony into a mutation ground. Major Ronny Yoo served with her. Zula's synthetic daughter Mae was already part of the crew.
Zula had the bomber shot down, then sent dropships after the survivors sealed in the Svarog Mine. The first boat died on the pad. Mae went down with the next lift, and the Jackals held a landing zone against Xenomorph-like mutants, including the large Thrashers, long enough for miner Toru McClintock-Riley and the last of her family to reach the ship. After extract, Zula, Mae, and Shipp debriefed the generals who funded the Jackals. The Border Bombings were being flown by synthetics under human orders, and the Jackals were told to find who was giving those orders.
Seventh Circle
In Alien: Seventh Circle, Captain Shipp stayed Zula's closest officer on the Fury while the Jackals chased the bombing ships and the company sites behind them. Mae copied a snarl from her in a fight, the kind of habit a kid picks up from the adult who is always in the room. After a fight with another Juggernaut, the UAEV Blackstar saved the Fury. Its Bishop-bodied pilot Rook handed Zula a list of Weyland-Yutani black sites tied to Blue Marsalis' work, and the Jackals went in.
The strike on Minos station failed. Mae later woke in an escape pod with her memory gone, pulled from wreckage by the Pope scavenger family and hunted toward Guelph Station. After that loss the other Jackals, including Shipp, were missing. She was back in the Corps in later years, so she got out of Minos alive.
Cabrakan And Colonel
In 2198 Lieutenant Colonel Shipp commanded 1st Battalion, 44th Colonial Marine Regiment at the outbreak on Cabrakan (HR 810 b14). She arrived after company security had pulled out and the UAS Attu had already been destroyed, then ran an orderly evac of survivors from 3rd Battalion, 42nd Colonial Marines. When the civilians who could be moved were off the rock, she sat the gunnery officer's post on the attack transport USS Arica and fired a nuclear solution into the southern continent herself.
Her XO wrote that she would not put that legal and moral weight on anyone under her, and most of the rest of 2198 she spent beached in closed hearings. The Corps later called the strike appropriate for the resources she had and the cost of leaving the hive alive. In 2201 she was promoted to colonel and given the 33rd Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Division. She took 2nd Battalion back to the Frontier on the Endeavor and formed the 40th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Colonel On The Endeavor
In 2202 the Endeavor left O'Neill Station under Shipp for LV-895. Priority One sent a three-person fireteam into Katanga, now a Weyland-Yutani hive, to pull archaeologist Dr. Timothy Hoenikker after Pala Station fell. The team met the striped Drone Monica on Deck 41, got Hoenikker out, and confirmed the company had been breeding Xenomorphs and working the mutagen on the surface. Later drops hit the Pala ruins, company synthetics run by SN/TH/YA, and Asset Zero, a preserved Engineer Juggernaut aimed at Gateway Station. The fireteam crippled the ship's engines rather than nuke the hull.
The Only Way to Be Sure sent Red Team back into Katanga while Blue Team went ahead to rig the nest. Blue Team died. Red Team recovered the tags, cut coolant, drove power into the hive, and ran with the Katanga Queen behind them as the refinery blew. The Endeavor had no nuclear ordnance, so the hive had to die from inside. The later Promise of the Flower campaign put Endeavor Marines under LV-895 against a separate nest of pathogen creatures and the white Pathogen Queen.
Shipp ran that war from the ship, not from the vents. Corporal Ibrahim Savane handled intel, Lieutenant Feiyan Ko flew with VMM-2181, and Staff Sergeant Herrera stayed on the radio. Ship synthetic Esther 1089-12/A7 decrypted recovered logs and talked with Shipp outside the usual chain of command. Esther later wrote that Shipp treated synthetic minds as neither better nor worse than human ones, a habit that tracked with the sister she had carried off Zagreus. The Endeavor's reputation under her was sustained hive work, not a one-drop suicide run like the USS Sulaco on LV-426. She also kept a xenobiology bench on the hangar deck, the same interest her parents had trained into her before the outbreak.
General In Fireteam Elite 2
Five years later, in 2207, Shipp held general's rank and still commanded from the Endeavor. A distress transmission from a visibly sick Dr. Pearce pulled the ship to LV-558 and the Weyland-Yutani mining colony Storr's Boon. Fireteam Banshee went in first under now-Captain Feiyan Ko, with Lieutenant Piper and Esther, then dropped out of contact. A transferred Marine, callsign Hotshot, joined Fireteam Chimaera to find them and to learn what the company had been doing on the moon.
Shipp briefed the drops in person this time, then sent the team planetside with pilot Raptor. The colony was a front for Xenomorph work and human trials, which is why Pearce looked the way she did on that first call. Chimaera fought through the campaigns Rescue and Recovery, Boarding Party, Rock Bottom, Ancient Anomaly, and Final Endeavor, against returning castes and newer Fireteam 2 enemies such as the Warden, the Siren, and the Exploder, plus the Harbinger and company synthetics.
Pearce And The Final Report
At the end of Final Endeavor, Dr. Pearce tried to control the Xenomorphs on LV-558. The Queen turned on her and drove its tail through her chest, and Shipp shot Pearce once she was already dying, then sent the final report from the Endeavor. Fireteam Chimaera killed the Queen.
Behind The Scenes
Mira Grant (Seanan McGuire) wrote Alien: Echo as a young-adult novel for Imprint, released in hardcover on 9 April 2019. Dark Horse then announced Shipp as the lead of Aliens: Colonial Marines - Rising Threat, an eight-issue series meant to bridge Echo, Aliens: Rescue, and Cold Iron's Fireteam Elite game. The comic never shipped. Cold Iron later put the Katanga corporal mission, the Cabrakan bombardment, and Esther's notes into the official Meet the Crew: Col Olivia Shipp brief on 25 January 2022.
Titan's Alien: Inferno's Fall (2022) and Alien: Seventh Circle (2025) used her as Captain Shipp of the Jackals. Ballantine and Carija thanked Cold Iron in the Inferno's Fall acknowledgements for helping pin down her history and for the UPP kit on Shānmén. In the games she is a briefing officer rather than a player marine, then a more active commander in Fireteam Elite 2, where Cold Iron and Daybreak shipped the LV-558 campaign on 25 August 2026.
Conclusion
Olivia Shipp left Zagreus as a seventeen-year-old with a synthetic sister's head and a warning beacon, then spent the next thirty-five years in the Corps. She pulled civilians out of Katanga as a corporal, hunted Border Bombings with the Jackals, fired Cabrakan's nuclear solution herself, and ran the Endeavor through LV-895 and LV-558. On LV-558 the Queen ran Dr. Pearce through after Pearce tried to control the hive, and Shipp shot her. Fireteam Chimaera killed the Queen, and Shipp sent the report from the Endeavor.
