Esther 1089-12/A7 was an Esther-model synthetic built by Weyland-Yutani and assigned as the battalion synthetic aboard the UAS Endeavor in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. She ran the ship's information systems with its MU/TH/UR 8500 and decrypted recovered logs during the 2202 campaign on LV-895. In 2207 she went down with Fireteam Banshee in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, and Fireteam Chimaera recovered her after company synthetics hacked her.

Model History

The Esther line was developed in the early 2170s and built at the same time as the Bishop model until the early 2180s. Both were meant to run information systems, handle electronic warfare, and serve as general science advisors for Colonial Marine units. Early Bishop debriefings showed that Marines used those synthetics as impartial listeners, so counseling software was added to some Bishops after deployment and then bundled into Esthers from the first release. High-sapient Esthers worked with a ship's MU/TH/UR computer while the human crew stayed in hypersleep on long FTL runs.

This unit was incepted on 6 June 2172 at the Weyland-Yutani manufactory in Eko Atlantic International Commerce City. She was an early production chassis later upgraded to seventh-generation hardware, and more than twenty years of runtime settled into patterns the unit treated as a personality. Newer Esthers could shift speech and manner to match the people around them, but this unit's long uptime made that harder.

Esther practiced piano and violin while the battalion was in hypersleep. Listeners treated the playing as empty of feeling because she copied a performer's motions exactly. She then practiced getting notes wrong on purpose, using the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, so the performance would sound more human.

Aboard The Endeavor

In 2202 Esther stayed on the Endeavor while fireteams dropped into the Katanga refinery and the surface of LV-895. She did not hold rank, and her MOS was 6673 Automated Information Systems Operator. She decrypted recovered company logs with the ship's MU/TH/UR 8500 and wrote notes that sat beside Corporal Ibrahim Savane's intel files.

Colonel Olivia Shipp ran that campaign from the ship. Esther spoke with her outside the usual chain of command. Esther later wrote that Shipp treated synthetic minds as neither better nor worse than human ones, a habit that tracked with the sister Shipp had carried off Zagreus.

After Priority One, a post-encounter file dated 16 May 2202, prepared by Savane and Esther, listed Monica as killed on Deck 41 after two weeks of stalking Dr. Timothy Hoenikker through Katanga's ducts. Esther's notes also recorded signs of post-traumatic stress around one Pala Station experiment, even though Hoenikker denied it. A recovered intel file from that campaign recorded that Colonial Marines used both Bishop and Esther model synthetics as support operators, scientific analysts, and medics.

Fireteam Elite 2

In 2207 Esther left the ship with Fireteam Banshee under Captain Feiyan Ko, with Lieutenant Piper. A distress call from Dr. Lily Pearce pulled the Endeavor to LV-558 and the Weyland-Yutani mining colony Storr's Boon. Banshee's dropship crashed, and the fireteam dropped out of contact. Fireteam Chimaera went in after them. They recovered Piper first, then found Esther shut down in a residential block during the mission Synth Headache after company synthetics hacked her. Ko moved her while Chimaera cleared the landing pad, and pilot Raptor lifted the survivors out.

Back on the Endeavor, Esther identified the company warship Demetrius as the next target. Later records inside the buried Engineer ship showed why Pearce had sent the call. Pearce could not open the classified Engineer research database from the wreck, so the system searched for anyone near LV-558 who already had authorization. The search returned Esther 1089-12/A7, which meant the distress signal had been bait to bring Banshee so Pearce could use that access to finish her Engineer hybrids. After Ancient Anomaly, Esther debriefed with General Shipp on the Endeavor.

Behind The Scenes

Cold Iron Studios published the official Meet the Crew: Esther 1089-12/A7 brief on 1 February 2022. That file supplied the incept date, the Eko Atlantic manufactory, the MOS, and the self-assessment about long uptime and music practice. Nadia Zahrah voiced her in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Cold Iron's concept art gave her longer, shoulder-length hair, while the in-game model used a shorter bob.

Conclusion

Esther 1089-12/A7 was the battalion synthetic on the UAS Endeavor, an early Esther-model chassis upgraded through two decades of Marine service. She decrypted the LV-895 logs from the ship in 2202, then went down with Fireteam Banshee in 2207. Company synthetics hacked her at Storr's Boon, Fireteam Chimaera pulled her out, and Pearce used her Engineer clearance to finish the hybrids.
