Dune Lore: Characters, Fremen, Houses And Arrakis

This category collects the Dune pages on AvP Central, based on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel and its sequels and on Denis Villeneuve's films Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024). The story is set in a far-future Imperium ruled by Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, where the Great Houses held planets as fiefs and the Spacing Guild controlled travel between the stars. House Atreides was moved from the ocean world of Caladan to the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the spice melange, after House Harkonnen of Giedi Prime had ruled it for decades. After the Harkonnen attack on Arrakeen, Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica of the Bene Gesserit, escaped into the deep desert and joined Stilgar's Fremen, where Paul met Chani. The Fremen spoke Chakobsa, and the Dune language translator turns English words into that language, marking each word as coming from the novels or from the version that David J. Peterson created for the films. Character names in the style of the factions can be created with the Fremen name generator, the Atreides name generator, the Harkonnen name generator and the Bene Gesserit name generator. The full set of name tools, including generators for the Sardaukar, Mentats, the Spacing Guild, noble Houses and planets, is also listed under Dune Name Generators.
