Dr. Timothy Hoenikker was a Weyland-Yutani theoretical archaeologist who survived the 2202 outbreak at Pala Station on LV-895 in Weston Ochse's Aliens: Infiltrator. After the white Alpha Number Seven took the station, and after the striped Drone Monica killed Dr. Erin Kash on the supply ship San Lorenzo, a fireteam from Colonel Olivia Shipp's UAS Endeavor pulled him out of the Katanga refinery in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. He stayed on the ship as a staff consultant while the Marines finished the surface campaign.
Early Life
The official Meet the Crew file dated his birth to 7 June 2172 in Brooklyn, New York. A house fire killed his parents and left him an orphan. He later told lab lead Kash that he had never married and that good marks had paid for a full ride at university. Commander Vincent Bellows later used a sister as leverage, a drug addict held on a prison planet.
He took Weyland University's Mars campus for its xenoarchaeology program, funded by grants and charity after the fire. His admissions essay pointed to a stack of two-century-old books in his grandparents' attic about vanished human civilizations. He finished a bachelor's degree in 2193, a master's in 2195, and a doctorate in 2199, with working digs in the Andes and the Rajasthan Desert and simulated exoplanetary work on Mars, Titan, and Europa. The dissertation treated Polynesian migration as a model for long interstellar travel and tried to name the kinds of barren worlds a non-human culture might use as waystations.
In 2200 Landmark Historical Consulting hired him to survey ruins in the path of planned railways in Colombia's Magdalena Department. The firm wanted fast, clean permits. His contract was not renewed. He then took an office job in Weyland-Yutani's Artifact Cataloguing Department through university contacts. A friend named Stokes, a former Colonial Marine who later worked as a company scientist, pushed him to leave that desk for a colonial artifact post on the Outer Rim. He left Gateway Station for that contract after the cataloguing job.
Pala Station
On 12 January 2202 he landed at Pala Station after a long shuttle ride, still expecting a cache of alien artifacts. Reception tech Victor Rawlings, a former Marine with a prosthetic right arm, checked him in, warned him about the station's rats, and walked him past staff sections that ran themselves because Commander Crowther wanted off-world and Deputy Commander Thompson spent his time hunting at a jungle lodge. Lab overseer Mansfield was not a scientist. He put the artifact work aside and listed Pala's real orders: gear that could stop Xenomorphs, related weapons, and tests of the Black Goo pathogen.
Team lead Kash walked him through the lab. Biologist Etienne Lacroix and chemical engineer Melbourne Matthews were dosing the goo into old Earth diseases. Xenobiologist Dr. Mark Cruz, another former Marine, had already turned station rats into Rat-X, a six-legged, acid-spitting animal that lived through extreme cold. The other xenobiologist, Dr. Mark Prior, kept a local chameleon predator called Leon-895 in a room that looked empty until the temperature dropped. Hoenikker asked to be called Tim, or just Hoenikker. His own work until then had been computer models, not live animals.
Logistics specialist Steve Fairbanks had ridden the same shuttle back from emergency leave under Hyperdyne blackmail. Fairbanks pushed tracked baby rats into the ducts so the rival company could listen. When security found the trackers, Hoenikker was a fresh arrival and sat through questioning with Fairbanks. Security later arrested Fairbanks in the lab. Cornered at a workstation, Fairbanks hit RELEASE on Leon's room instead of abort.
Leon And The Lab
Before the eggs arrived, a Rat-X melted its glass, spat acid on Mansfield, and died under Cruz's flamethrower after it pinned a worker in a corridor. Cruz then used the ruined room as a range and taught Hoenikker how to hold a gun.
The camouflaged predator tore through the lab, killed Mansfield, Matthews, Prior, and others, and stayed loose in the corridors. Cruz had staff throw paint, blood, or anything wet that would stick, and someone covered Leon in pink paint. Cruz ran out of pistol rounds as the animal crawled toward them. Hoenikker pressed the gun to its head, killed it, and threw up. Cruz took stem cells from the body for later Xenomorph tests.
Bellows arrived as the new commander, shut down off-station hunting, and pushed the work toward profit. The San Lorenzo had already towed Katanga into orbit. Cryo cases from that refinery held eggs, each with a Facehugger inside. Bellows counted twelve eggs and twelve prisoners on company contracts, blocked outgoing comms, and kept the Xenomorph work classified. Hoenikker had already tried to send a transfer request. The block stopped it.
He was told to take shell samples and record data while Cruz, Kash, and Etienne ran the pathogen tests. Rooms One and Two got irradiated goo in either the egg or the host and later produced ordinary dark drones. Cruz also grew a second chameleon, Leon-B, from leftover eggs and Leon stem cells. Etienne mixed a pheromone spray from Xenomorph sweat and saliva that made rats smell like the hive for a short time. Cruz later confirmed the lab still held dozens of extra eggs in cryo, maybe as many as a hundred.
Monica Enright
In Containment Room Three he recognized Monica Enright, his girlfriend from the first two years of university. She had been blond, introspective, and eager to please. He had walked out. Twenty years later she was older, under a company contract, and already marked as Test Subject #3. Cruz refused to release the prisoner names so the lab would stay "objective." Rawlings could pull only initials from the list.
Hoenikker went to the glass anyway. The way she cocked her head and shook it was enough. She had killed men for money, including the man she was with, taken a life sentence, and signed on for Pala instead of a terraforming prison work detail. He asked Rawlings for a way to hide her or steal a shuttle. Rawlings had no way to pull her off the list. When the Facehugger came she stood still, fists at her sides. The Chestburster moved under her skin for three minutes and forty-seven seconds, then broke out. She lived about thirty seconds after that.
The Chestburster grew into a dark, striped Drone the staff called Three. Light stripes ran the arms and torso. Cruz treated both her and the egg with irradiated pathogen. The hide changed. The caste did not. Later Katanga notes put her height at over 1.8 meters.
Number Seven
Irradiated pathogen in Room Seven produced a white, human-proportioned adult Xenomorph that Cruz named Seven. Room Five grew an extra pair of arms. Seven sent a mental buzz through Cruz, then made other drones spit acid at the same weak points in the glass. Cruz burned the room when they attacked. Bellows forbade killing Seven. Hoenikker treated it as an Alpha that had formed because Pala had no Queen, and as a brain made sharper by the goo than the first unaltered specimens.
When Bellows ordered the synths to flame-abort every Xenomorph in the lab, Hoenikker tried to stop the abort on Room Three with a fire extinguisher. A synth threw him across a table. Five used the button codes it had watched and opened Seven's glass. Seven walked out. The remaining adult Xenomorphs gathered around it. Hoenikker looked for Three in that swarm and found her by the light stripes. She held the head of the last synth and threw it at him.
Outbreak And Escape
Fairbanks had already starved in a storeroom, been bitten by a pathogen-mutated rat, eaten the animal, and changed into a nine-foot spider-legged creature that still wore his face. That monster, Seven's brood, and Leon-B filled the corridors. Hoenikker and Kash locked themselves in his quarters for hours while Seven turned the mess hall into a breeding floor. Hidden eggs came out of cryo. Surviving staff were forced face-first into them. In that room he argued that the hive needed a mother, and that without one the adult Xenomorphs were a pack with no leader.
Cruz put on acid-resistant armor, took a flamethrower and a pulse rifle, and gathered whoever was still alive. The last moving group was Cruz, Hoenikker, Kash, Etienne, Rawlings, and comms tech Buggy. Bellows joined them after his own security push to the shuttle bay was wiped out. Hoenikker shoved the commander against a wall over the twelve-host tests, the threats about his sister, Kash's old name Angel of Death, and the claim that Etienne belonged in prison. Bellows then gave them the shuttle code, 19753.
In the bay corridor Seven stood with eleven juveniles. Acid from a dying juvenile killed Rawlings and Buggy. Cruz charged with the flamethrower, called the names of the squad he had lost years earlier, and soaked Seven and the young in fuel. Hoenikker took Kash's pulse rifle, planted it as Cruz had shown him, and shot the tank. The fireball killed Cruz, Seven, and the juveniles. A burning Xenomorph arm pulled Bellows in when he tried to slip past the fire.
Hoenikker, Kash, and Etienne boarded the shuttle, pulled one dead woman out of the hold, and flew for the San Lorenzo. A camouflaged Leon-895 had ridden with them. It dropped from the ceiling, bit through Etienne's skull, and started to eat. Hoenikker emptied the pulse rifle into both bodies and blamed himself for Etienne's death. Kash did not.
San Lorenzo
As the shuttle docked with the empty supply ship, Three was already on the hull. Light stripes showed along the arms and torso as she pounded the front glass and drooled acid on the weak pane. Hoenikker and Kash ran for the bridge. He lifted the emergency cover and sent a distress call as Dr. Timothy Hoenikker of Pala Station, saying everyone was dead and that they had an infiltration, then the microphone switched from green to red and cut him off.
Three was already inside. She caught Kash at the viewport, a claw over her mouth. Kash broke free, fired, and the acid washed her chest. She told him to run, then the Drone cocked its head the same way Monica Enright had in the lab. He left the empty pulse rifle in the shuttle and went aft into a pedestrian tunnel marked for Katanga, the platform that had supplied Pala's eggs.
Katanga
The Endeavor later followed that cut-off call from O'Neill Station. Priority One put a three-person team aboard Katanga to extract him. The refinery was already a hive of Warriors and other castes. In the mission Rescue the Marines patched into the local network, spoke to him over video, and cut toward his hide on the mainframe decks. He warned them that the same Xenomorph had followed him from the surface lab.
On Deck 41 they met Monica. She hit like an Elite Drone, grabbed a marine, then dropped into a vent once the squad had hurt her. The same wounds were still on her when she came back at his hatch. He called her Monica over the radio and told them to get out. The fireteam killed her there, then pulled him out through the hangar. A post-encounter file dated 16 May 2202, prepared by Corporal Ibrahim Savane and the synth Esther, listed two weeks of stalking after him through Katanga's ducts.
Fireteam Elite
He told them Pala on the surface was gone and that the company had been breeding Xenomorphs and working the mutagen there. He stayed on the Endeavor after that as a staff consultant through the rest of the 2202 LV-895 campaign, including the Pala ruins, company synthetics run by SN/TH/YA, the Engineer ship Asset Zero, and the Katanga Queen. Esther's notes recorded signs of post-traumatic stress around one Pala experiment, even though he denied it.
Behind The Scenes
Ochse first wrote Aliens short fiction in Zero to Hero for Jonathan Maberry's Aliens: Bug Hunt anthology. Titan editor Steve Saffel then asked his agent, Cherry Weiner, for an original novel that would be treated as canon and as a prequel to Cold Iron Studios' new game. Titan published the trade paperback on 20 April 2021, with cover art by Marco Turini. Blackstone Publishing released an unabridged reading by Bronson Pinchot the same day.
Cold Iron's Meet the Crew: Dr. Timothy Hoenikker brief landed on 16 November 2021 and supplied the Brooklyn birth date, the Weyland University degrees, the Landmark contract, and Esther's notes. In the game he is a briefing and extraction NPC rather than a player marine, voiced by Mark Whitten. Ochse died in November 2023 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Conclusion
Timothy Hoenikker went to Pala Station for artifacts and spent January 2202 recording pathogen tests, killing Leon-895, and watching Monica Enright die in Room Three. He shot Cruz's fuel tank to burn Seven, lost Kash to Monica on the San Lorenzo, and sent the distress call that brought the Endeavor. Colonial Marines pulled him off Katanga after two weeks in the ducts, and he was still alive on that ship when the LV-895 campaign ended. He did not appear in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.
