The Harbinger is a hunter created by the Black Goo pathogen in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, and it does not appear in the first game. Cold Iron Studios lists it as a Hunter with a Pursuit and Lockdown role and a High threat level. The body is built around a chest mouth rather than a Xenomorph skull. It chases a Marine, pins that Marine with a grapple, and holds the victim while other enemies keep attacking.
Appearance
The Harbinger has no separate head. A vertical toothed maw sits in the chest, lined with about two dozen dark needle teeth, roughly a dozen along each inner wall. Six pale arms stack around that mouth in three pairs, each ending in a single hook instead of a hand. From the front those arms open a little like petals on a flower. Two clawed legs carry the body, and a long segmented Xenomorph tail hangs from the base of the spine, thick at the root and bladed at the tip. Pale wet skin covers a darker lower body, and it stands in a two-legged crouch, unlike the Warden's knuckle walk.
Combat Role
Cold Iron lists the role as pursuit and lockdown. The Harbinger chases a Colonial Marine and grapples that Marine with its six hook-tipped arms. While the Marine is pinned, that Marine cannot fire, and other enemies keep attacking, so Cold Iron rates the threat as High. The Prowler in the first Fireteam Elite used a similar leap to take one Marine out of the line, and the Harbinger's chest maw opens during that leap.
Against A Squad
At least four Harbingers can attack a squad at once, approaching from both sides in hive-resin halls and industrial bays. They close on a grouped fireteam and pin one Marine, unlike the Warden, which knocks Marines down and locks the floor with acid. A sidestep can take a Marine out of the leap before the hooks close. The open mouth is the weak point, the same target used against most Xenomorph types, and shots there drop it faster than hits on the arms or legs.
Role In The Story
In 2207, Fireteam Chimaera encountered the Harbinger on LV-558 at the mining colony Storr's Boon, after the UAS Endeavor answered a distress call. The mine was a Weyland-Yutani front for Xenomorph research. Harbingers appear with other pathogen creatures such as the Striker. Whether that group hunts with Xenomorphs or fights them is unknown. In the first Fireteam Elite, the Promise of the Flower campaign kept the white pathogen mutants in their own nest under LV-895, separate from the Katanga hive swarms.
Similar Creatures
The Trilobite from Prometheus is the closest visual match, a giant proto-Facehugger whose body is a mouth and arms. That mouth implanted an Engineer on LV-223. The Harbinger uses its mouth to pin a Marine rather than implant a host, and it has two walking legs and a Xenomorph tail instead of a full tentacle wrap. The Deacon and the Hammerpede are the other Prometheus pathogen forms, a chestburster-shaped adult and a snake-worm. The Prowler from the first game is a reddish Runner-scale Xenomorph that leaps onto a Marine and holds on. The Harbinger uses the same pin with a chest maw and six hooks in place of a skull. The Striker is the other Fireteam pathogen brute, with club arms and a head.
Conclusion
The Harbinger is the high-threat pathogen hunter in Fireteam Elite 2 on LV-558, a six-armed grapple hunter built around a chest maw. It arrives with the rest of the new roster on August 25, 2026.
