Blade Runner 2099 is an eight-episode limited series from Prime Video, set fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes a blade runner identity for one last case, and Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a Replicant days from dying who is forced to work with her. Showrunner Silka Luisa made the series with Ridley Scott as an executive producer. Prime Video announced at San Diego Comic-Con on 24 July 2026 that every episode premieres worldwide on 25 November 2026.

Prime Video posted the official teaser, titled Blade Runner 2099 - Official Teaser, at the Comic-Con panel. The clip shows Olwen and Cora in a Los Angeles held by replicants. Cora's narration says humans fought a war and lost, and that replicants left them with nothing. Olwen tells her that the old world fights to come back, that humans want what was taken from them, and that this is the replicants' time. The cut includes the neon, rain, and spinner traffic of the 1982 film, quieter rooms, amber haze, and a red sequence of people watching a ship lift off.

Amazon's published logline places the story fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. Los Angeles has been rebuilt, and the rebuild was not done by humanity. Cora is a fugitive who takes one last identity, that of a blade runner, and is paired with Olwen, a replicant with little time left. The two hunt a runaway who is hiding a fact that could bring that city down. Episode titles and a scene-by-scene plot have not been released.

Prime Video has named two leads and two other series regulars. Official stills show Cora with the two men billed beside her, and early credits attach those roles to Preston and Puck. Guest players are listed by actor only, and Amazon has not published their character names.

Silka Luisa, who ran Shining Girls, is the showrunner and an executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes and also produces. Ridley Scott is an executive producer through Scott Free, with David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from that company on the same list. Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson produce with Alcon television president Ben Roberts, alongside Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett. Steven Johnson is a co-executive producer.
Principal photography ran in Prague and wrapped in late December 2024. Amazon first talked about a Blade Runner series in 2022. Trade reports had pointed at a 2027 window until the Hall H panel locked 25 November 2026 and showed the teaser. Writer credits on the eight episodes include Luisa, Kirsa Rein, Monika Revilla, Spezialy, and CK Kiechel, with later episodes listed without public titles.
Release Date
All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 premiere on Prime Video on 25 November 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories, with no weekly schedule. The date is the Wednesday before the United States Thanksgiving holiday. Prime Video is the only announced home, and no theatrical window has been attached to the series.

From 2049 To 2099
Blade Runner 2099 continues the two films, fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. In that film, Lieutenant Joshi treated a replicant birth as a cause for war between humans and replicants. Freysa's underground was gathering in Los Angeles, and Niander Wallace wanted replicant reproduction so he could staff more off-world labor. The 2099 teaser has Cora say humans fought a war and lost, and it shows a ship lifting off. Replicants hold the city, and the runaway she hunts hides a fact that could bring it down.
The Blade Runner Timeline
The two films, the three prelude shorts, the 2032 anime Blade Runner: Black Lotus, and the Titan comics share one Alcon timeline. Those comics include Blade Runner: Origins, Tokyo Nexus, and the Ash books set in 2019, 2029, and 2039. Blade Runner 2099 continues that timeline. No later novel or comic is set after 2049.

Parallels With The Jeter Novels
K. W. Jeter wrote three authorized sequels to the 1982 film from 1995 to 2000. Blade Runner 2049 later contradicted those books, and they are not canon to Blade Runner 2099. In Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human, Isidore hid escaped replicants so they could pass as human, and a human Roy Batty claimed the blade runners themselves were replicants with false memories. The books repeatedly used uncertain or assumed identities, a theme that returns with Cora, a fugitive who assumes the identity of a blade runner for one last job
Blade Runner: Replicant Night followed in 1996. Deckard lived on Mars after the U.N. closed the route to the far colonies. Replicants held those worlds, and humans sent onward were killed before any word could reach Earth. The 2099 teaser puts that hold in Los Angeles: humans fought a war and lost, and replicants control the city. Blade Runner 4: Eye and Talon followed female blade runner Iris Knaught. A colleague showed her that she had Rachael's face, and the novel does not settle whether Iris was a replicant. Cora is also a woman on a blade runner case, but she is a fugitive in the city the replicants hold.
