Cora is the main human Hunter Schafer plays in Blade Runner 2099, Prime Video's limited series set fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. She spent her life running from blade runners in a Los Angeles held by replicants. The teaser shows her beaten in a prison, where Olwen questions her. The official premise then has her take a blade runner case with Olwen. The New York Comic Con trailer in October 2026 tied that case to missing replicants and a rumored cure. All eight episodes premiere on 25 November 2026.

A Human On The Run

In July 2024, a Prague production story described Cora as a chameleon who had lived her whole life on the run and who took one last identity so her brother would have a stable future. Showrunner Silka Luisa later described her as a human who had spent that life running from blade runners and then had to pretend to be one. Survival had cost Cora her humanity, and the series asks whether she can get it back. Amazon's 2026 logline keeps the fugitive and names the last identity as a blade runner, and a Comic-Con write-up also has her disguising herself as a replicant. At New York Comic Con in October 2026, Schafer said Cora's work was raided, so she went on the run to protect her little brother before going undercover as a blade runner with the LAPD.

In an Empire feature published on 19 October 2026, Cora was described as a human who had disguised herself as a replicant to infiltrate the LAPD. Schafer told the magazine that Cora is very raw, and said there was a lot of beauty in even the small moments of humanity in the pairing with Olwen, despite Olwen being a replicant. Empire placed the two beside the franchise's earlier identity-probing pairs, Deckard and Rachael in the 1982 film and K and Joi in Blade Runner 2049. Luisa called the series sunshine noir, set in a hot, sticky and chaotic city coming back to life.

Cora Is Beaten In A Prison

In the teaser, Cora was beaten in a prison until Olwen reached her. Close shots from that sequence show a raw scrape across her forehead, a bruise on her cheek, and a split lip. Olwen questioned her after the beating, and Cora was strapped to a chair while the questioning went on. The teaser does not reveal exactly how Cora leaves the prison, but the encounter appears to lead into her partnership with Olwen.

Paired With Olwen

Olwen, played by Michelle Yeoh, is a replicant blade runner with days left to live. Showrunner Silka Luisa has described replicants as knowing the day they will die, and Olwen has only days left when the series begins. The official premise puts her in a partnership with Cora. Cora is a human who takes a blade runner identity, and Olwen is a replicant blade runner. Luisa has said those two situations are meant to mirror each other. Executive producer Andrew Kosove called the bond between a human pretending to be a replicant and a replicant whose time was running out the core of the show, and Broderick Johnson described the series as The Departed in the world of Blade Runner.

In the teaser, Cora says humans fought a war and lost, and that replicants left them with nothing. Olwen answers that the old world is fighting to come back, that humans want what was taken from them, and that this is the replicants' time. In that city, replicants hold Los Angeles after the war. Cora is a human who takes on a blade runner's identity there.

One Last Blade Runner Case

Amazon's logline sends Cora after a runaway who is hiding a fact that could bring Los Angeles down. She hunts that runaway while using a blade runner identity, and the premise pairs her with Olwen. Showrunner Silka Luisa has described the same hunt as a group of missing rogue replicants, while the logline names one runaway. An official still shows Cora in a workshop with the two other series regulars, and Prime Video has not published what those men do on the case.

The New York Comic Con trailer gave the case its scale: Olwen says 10 female and 18 male replicants went missing in the last year, and the trailer says a man out there knows the cure for all replicants. At the panel, Luisa said Olwen was really looking for Merrick, a missing blade runner and colleague, and asked why someone who fought for replicant power would walk away from it. Polygon reported that the trail leads to a criminal gang of replicants who reject acting human, but neither the trailer nor the panel said who the man with the cure is.

Behind the Scenes

Hunter Schafer turned the role down in spring 2024 because she did not want another television series. Producers spent more than a month trying to cast it, came back in early June, and she took Cora after that meeting. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, she treated the action as heavier than on her earlier sets. She did her own tumbles and falls, took a concussion, and Michelle Yeoh bought her a small helmet afterward. On 10 October 2026, Schafer joined Yeoh, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Matthew Needham, and Luisa on the Empire Stage panel at New York Comic Con, where Prime Video released the full trailer and new key art.

Conclusion

The official premise then has her take one last blade runner case with Olwen, and the New York Comic Con trailer linked it to 28 missing replicants. The series asks whether she can regain her humanity after the years she spent running. All eight episodes premiere on Prime Video on 25 November 2026.
