Olwen is the main replicant Michelle Yeoh plays in Blade Runner 2099, Prime Video's limited series set fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. She is a blade runner with only days left to live in a Los Angeles held by replicants. The official premise pairs her with Cora, the human Hunter Schafer plays. The teaser shows Olwen questioning Cora after a prison beating, and the New York Comic Con trailer has her tracking 28 missing replicants. All eight episodes premiere on 25 November 2026.
A Replicant With Days Left
In the official premise, Olwen is a replicant blade runner with only days left to live. Showrunner Silka Luisa has said replicants know the day they will die, and Olwen has only days left when the series begins. Earlier replicants often lived four years. The Tyrell Corporation built that limit into the Nexus-6 in the 1982 film, and Roy Batty died when those four years ended. Later models did not all keep that limit. The Nexus-8 had no fixed lifespan, and in Blade Runner 2049 the Nexus-9 aged like a human. In July 2024, a Prague production story described Olwen as a blade runner near the end of her life, caught up in a conspiracy. Amazon's 2026 logline keeps those last days and pairs her with Cora.
Panel footage shown only to the New York Comic Con audience in October 2026 gave Olwen blue nail beds. Luisa said the mark came from close shots of Batty's hands in the 1982 film, reminded Olwen that she had only days, and would track her decline over the season. SlashFilm placed her in the last week of her life, and Luisa told IGN that knowing exactly when you will die makes death harder because it comes sooner than it should. Yeoh said Olwen did not like to leave things unfinished, and that she went from accepting her death to actively fighting it.
Paired With Cora
In the teaser, Cora was beaten in a prison until Olwen reached her. Olwen questioned her after the beating, and Cora was strapped to a chair while the questioning went on. The teaser does not reveal exactly how Cora leaves the prison, but the encounter appears to lead into their partnership. An official still shows the two of them standing together in a shaft of light. At New York Comic Con, Matthew Needham described his own character as a junior partner stuck with Olwen.
In the same teaser, Cora says humans fought a war and lost, and that replicants left them with nothing. Olwen answers that the old world is fighting to come back, that humans want what was taken from them, and that this is the replicants' time. In that city, replicants hold Los Angeles after the war. Showrunner Silka Luisa has said Cora's uncertainty about her humanity and Olwen's last days are meant to mirror each other.
Olwen And Cora Hunt A Runaway
Amazon's logline sends Olwen and Cora after a runaway who is hiding a fact that could bring Los Angeles down. Showrunner Silka Luisa has described Olwen's hunt as a group of missing rogue replicants, while the logline names one runaway. A released still shows Olwen in the front seat of a spinner, with Cora behind her and the city outside the windows.
At New York Comic Con, Luisa said Olwen was supposed to be hunting human insurgents but was really looking for Merrick, a fellow blade runner and the first to go missing. The mystery asks why Merrick, who fought and sacrificed for replicant power, would turn his back on it. In the trailer, Olwen says 10 female and 18 male replicants went missing in the last year, and the footage says a man out there knows the cure for all replicants. Polygon reported that the case leads her and Cora to a criminal gang of replicants who reject acting human.
Similar Female Blade Runners
Aahna "Ash" Ashina was a blade runner for the Los Angeles police in Titan's Blade Runner 2019 comics, written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson. Like Olwen, she continued working while facing the end of her physical life, although Ash was human rather than a replicant. A severe back injury increasingly limited her, and by 2039 her spine was failing. Her final cases eventually led her away from the police and into protecting the replicants she had once been sent to hunt.
Iris Knaught, the blade runner in Blade Runner 4: Eye and Talon, provides a closer parallel to Olwen. Iris hunted Eldon Tyrell's owl, Scrappy, through monsoon Los Angeles, but her own identity became part of the mystery. A colleague showed her that she had Rachael's face, and the novel leaves open the possibility that Iris herself was a replicant. Olwen, by contrast, is openly identified as a replicant blade runner and begins her story knowing that she has only days left to live.
Behind the Scenes
Michelle Yeoh joined the cast in May 2024, when Prime Video announced her as Olwen. The series filmed in Prague from June through December 2024. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, Hunter Schafer described the action as heavier than on her earlier sets, including her own tumbles and falls. She took a concussion, and Yeoh bought her a small helmet afterward. At the New York Comic Con panel on 10 October 2026, Yeoh said she was excited to play a replicant rather than a human and joked about trying to keep up with Schafer.
In an Empire feature published on 19 October 2026, Michelle Yeoh said replicants have a much longer lifespan, are stronger and faster, and won the war because they learned how to adapt and move forward. The magazine described Olwen as a replicant blade runner whose job is to hunt rogue humans, inverting the premise of the 1982 film, in a Los Angeles that is warming back up. Showrunner Silka Luisa called the approach sunshine noir, about a hot, sticky and chaotic city coming back to life, and said her pitch imagined what the world looks like when it is no longer ours.
Conclusion
Olwen is the main replicant Michelle Yeoh plays in Blade Runner 2099. She is a blade runner with only days left to live, and showrunner Silka Luisa has tied those days to Roy Batty in the 1982 film. The official premise pairs her with Cora for a hunt in Los Angeles, the New York Comic Con trailer ties it to missing replicants and a rumored cure, and the teaser shows her questioning Cora after a prison beating. All eight episodes premiere on Prime Video on 25 November 2026.
