Alien: Perfect Organisms is a 2025 novel by Shaun Hamill, published by Titan Books on 28 October 2025 in the United Kingdom and 18 November 2025 in the United States. It followed Captain Cynthia Goodwin of the USCSS Chariot from a failed cargo run at Knapik Station to the quarantined colony New Providence on DSJ-1020, where Weyland-Yutani had seeded eggs and the painter Corinth Bloch was waiting inside the hive. Goodwin reached the Queen, then left on Bloch's shuttle Gnosis still carrying an embryo, with the Colonial Marine frigate USS Fratto letting them go.

Plot Summary

Captain Cynthia Goodwin ran an independent cargo hauler with her partner Sam Kurzel, the ship's tech Harris, cargo handlers Danielle Cardona and Loewen White, and the synthetic Compton. After a landing wrecked part of a ration load at Knapik Station, she took a rescue job from the industrialist Roman Fade rather than lose the ship. Fade wanted Corinth Bloch brought back from a world the Marines had closed. Most of Bloch's life reached her later, on a dossier disk that unlocked as the Chariot fell toward DSJ-1020.

The Fratto Lets Gnosis Through

Corporal Jared Briscoe stood graveyard watch on the USS Fratto, a Conestoga-class frigate that had orbited DSJ-1020 for six months. Command called the world quarantined and told the crew not to ask past the job. No ship had come or gone, and the colony sent no traffic. The enlisted rumors were a reactor failure or a plague. Neither explained a silent farm world that still needed a Marine blockade, or newsfeeds that returned nothing for New Providence.

Sensors then picked up a small unarmed shuttle with its transponder off. Briscoe hailed it, warned of lethal force, and nearly armed the guns. The craft identified as Gnosis, showed no faster-than-light drive, and asked for Lieutenant Diaz by name. Diaz ran from the commissary with food still in her mouth, sat at his station, and cleared the shuttle to proceed. She told Briscoe to forget the contact. The logs would be gone by the next shift, and she would deny the night if he talked.

Chariot At Knapik Station

Goodwin woke from cryo on the Chariot with another nightmare and Compton standing over the tube. He was a Weyland-Yutani synthetic built to look like a man in his forties, bought cheap because the Viking look had not sold. Knapik Station had started as a Cygnus ore refinery over CS-1225 and fed five mining worlds in the belt. A failed rear stabilizer dumped about fifteen percent of a six-month ration load on landing. Station admin paid for what survived. Goodwin had hoped for an ore contract through a contact named Bulloch. The ore broker Aldous Hemphill met her at Ore's Pours, cited an earlier accident at Gorham's Folly, and told her to leave the shipping trade.

Fade's Extraction Job

Compton woke her again at The Bowers hotel, where Roman Fade held the penthouse. Fade made coffee, shook Compton's hand, and already knew the Chariot's books. About thirty years earlier, Goodwin's mother Alice had taken the ship off a dying Outer Veil colony Fade called Source Falls, and had saved one child, Corinth Bloch. Fade wanted that man brought out of New Providence. He offered a ten percent advance, enough for expenses and not enough to walk away rich. White demanded to know what plague they were flying into. Goodwin decided before any formal vote, after a word from Bloch's file stuck in her head. Sam, Harris, and Cardona were in at once. White took a day, then came back and scrubbed spilled bug juice in the hold.

Fade's courier left two disks. One was for Bloch's eyes only. The other carried MJ-419 jump notes, New Providence plans, and Marine-bypass steps. The long dossier stayed locked until they were on the world, and the crash later tore some of that file.

The Cavern On AF-617

Bloch's memoir used a different name for the childhood world, AF-617, a Seegson helium mine under a dome in the Neroid sector. He was born there on 9 July 2159. His father worked the helium mine, and his mother Molly Bloch ran the only bar. Schoolteachers were Seegson Working Joes. Kids hid in ventilation shafts and stole tractors for joyrides across a featureless surface.

A drill broke into a cavern of breathable air, not helium. Probe footage showed a giant bald stone head, rows of black vases, and a skeletal figure in a rippling black wall. Bloch's father took him to the mining office to watch that recording, then went down with a recovery crew and did not come back. Mr. Streitenfeld later slipped the boy an unlabeled tape of the descent. On it, miners loaded canisters of black sludge from spilled vases, and a huge dark mass took the father while the camera rose on a winch.

Alice Goodwin's Escape

Lockdown followed. Molly bought sketch supplies from the visiting Chariot before her bar shift, because the captain, Alice Goodwin, was an old friend. Colony geologist Doctor Hixson took cavern vases for study. Her daughter Leanna called in terror when a changed figure in stained scrubs broke into their rooms. Molly spoke the name Kacey at the face on the screen, then the connection cut out.

Molly and Corinth ran the service tunnels toward the hangar. A transfigured miner blocked the corridor. Molly shoved the boy toward the ramp and was beaten to death behind him. Alice met Corinth with a shotgun, killed that creature, and refused an air-traffic order to stay put. A mob of changed colonists hit the ship as the engines lit. Alice scanned the boy, hid the AF-617 departure on the transponder, and later left him with aunt Lucy on Welkin. The cover story was a pair of mining accidents. He was not to mention caverns or changed people.

The Jackalope And Space Beast

On Welkin, Bloch wrote a school paper on Duncan Fields and the Earthsavers phrase OTBD, out there be demons. Headmistress Doctor Fell treated that movement as terror and sent him to counseling. He turned in a safe essay on Peter Weyland instead. Galleries rejected the dark AF-617 work. A dealer named Mabel at Rebirth on Alexandria told him to go see darkness for himself. He signed onto the cargo hauler Jackalope under Captain Nathan and spent a year living on his own pay.

On Torrin Prime a street preacher named Zachariah shouted about a dragon and sold him a banned pamphlet, Space Beast by Robert Morse. Morse wrote as the last survivor of the Fury 161 lead works, with convicts, a doctor, and Lieutenant Ellen Ripley. The creature in that account came from a dog, ran on four legs, feared fire, and died in the mold. Ripley went into the molten lead as a Chestburster came out of her. Bloch took the pamphlet as a real hidden history, bought out his contract, and went home to paint. A sold-out show, Life Among the Stars, made him famous for colonial misery sold to rich buyers. The next show used the erased Earthsaver phrase as a title. Roman Fade bought a huge hangar painting called Destiny and took Bloch into a house that lasted more than twelve years.

Fade And Project Providence

Fade knew the AF-617 escape and offered Bloch a house and a career if he stayed quiet. Bloch painted safe colonial portraits and kept his own money. In the twelfth year he installed stalkerware on Fade's unlocked office machine. An email from a Company man named Alvarado named Project Providence on DSJ-1020, a quiet farm world chosen for an easy quarantine. Fade was to send five eggs and files on the XX121 life cycle. After the delivery, the colony dropped out of public records.

Bloch bought the shuttle Gnosis, a short-range arrowhead with two cryo tubes and no faster-than-light drive. Captain Flavio of Fortune's Dawn agreed to tow it near the Marine picket. Bloch also used a junior executive named Morton to get encrypted colony plans and the Fratto roster. The manifesto on Goodwin's disk ended as he prepared that inbound run. He meant to leave the world with proof of the outbreak.

Crash On DSJ-1020

Harris and Compton patched the stabilizer overnight. The Fratto hailed the Chariot as soon as it entered MJ-419. Diaz cleared them with the humanitarian-aid password 180924609 and warned that there would be no record and no rescue. Lightning and the bad stabilizer put the hauler into a spin. A hull breach opened on the bridge, pulled Compton out, and left Goodwin with a head wound. The five survivors left through the breach on a winch, into rain at about eleven degrees, and marched toward a colony signal roughly fifty kilometers south.

Cardona Taken In The Dark

The first day they made about a kilometer between rocky peaks. Harris's tracker showed no wildlife at all. Goodwin read the unlocked Bloch file in the tent while a space heater fought the cold. On the second day the forest closed over them. Tracker blips came and went. Harris called them glitches.

Danielle Cardona took first watch outside the tents. Something fast hit her while she reached for the tracker on the ground. The signal raced, then stopped. Her tent flap was still sealed. Sam wanted to chase the contact. Goodwin refused and put the remaining crew on paired watches with the tracker left on.

Eggs In The Forest

Near the ten-kilometer mark a thin golden retriever tripped the tracker. Goodwin almost shot it. Sam knocked the gun aside. Beyond the dog lay a circular clearing of open egg shells, dead Facehuggers, and human corpses with burst chests glued to the trunks in resin. That was the first proof that DSJ-1020 held the Company creature from Fade's stolen files, not the AF-617 sludge. The dog would not enter the clearing and snarled at the edge. They walked around it. White named the dog Quilbo, after a ranger from a childhood game, and took him into a tent that night.

Quilbo And White

White woke the camp because the dog was in trouble. A metallic shriek came from the tent, not a dog sound, and the zipper jammed. Goodwin put three revolver shots into the fabric. A pink-gray Chestburster tore out. Quilbo was already dead inside. White was torn up beside him. The crew left that tent and marched overnight, still a few kilometers short of the colony wall.

Harris Dies At The Gates

Harris's tracker filled two-thirds of the screen as they reached New Providence. He called the contacts dragons. A swarm of adult Xenomorphs came out of the trees and over the wall. Harris died in that rush. A loudspeaker voice, Bloch, told Goodwin and Sam to turn left and make for door 01. They dropped packs, ran the gap, and the airlock shut with claws on the outer door.

Shelter 01 And The Lockout

Shelter 01 was built for about sixty days at full load, with its own power and air, for a town that had never held two hundred people. Bloch had found the doors closed but unlocked, announced himself on the radio, and walked into empty rooms. Colony logs showed the director ordering a retreat during the outbreak. Weyland-Yutani then locked the bunker from off-world. Farmers died on the wrong side of doors they could not cut or hack. Live cameras still covered the streets. No colonist Bloch could reach was alive.

Bloch And The Queen Footage

Bloch had come for a subject, not a rescue. He had a studio of pop-art Xenomorph studies and an unfinished Queen silhouette. Stolen mail on Fade's machine named Project Providence and Alvarado. Fade had prepared five eggs so the outbreak could be recorded on a quiet agricultural world. Android scouts, including Ryder in Bloch's headset, mapped the hive. Adults left those synthetics alone unless someone blocked them. Ryder once walked past a Warrior carrying an egg. Sam asked after Cardona. Bloch had found no living humans in the hive and treated an impregnated missing person as already dead.

One android went into the power-plant sub-level. That unit was destroyed beside a Queen whose chamber held enough eggs to seed a crowded planet. Stolen Company notes claimed Queens might touch human minds in dreams. Bloch treated that as unproven, then tied Goodwin's old nightmares and Duncan Fields to something that might sit above any local Queen. Fade's private disk asked for forgive-and-forget. Bloch did not trust a safe return to that house.

Goodwin Takes The Facehugger

Bloch wanted a living host in front of the Queen so he could finish the work. He led them to a bunk room, let Sam take first watch, and poured sweet tea with honey. The drink dropped Goodwin and Sam. Bloch had known they would not agree. Company backdoors let his androids strap all three of them to upright gurneys around a single egg. Bloch opened that egg in front of them and waited. Sam screamed when it stirred. Goodwin screamed louder on purpose, and the Facehugger took her. Hours later the parasite was on her face in the medbay, and a scan confirmed the embryo.

Goodwin Before The Queen

Impregnated, Goodwin walked the residential block with a helmet camera, a tracker, and ration bars, Bloch and Sam on the radio. Three adults met her in a corridor. One on the ceiling dripped clear fluid on her shoulder, the stuff that hardens into nest resin, and showed an inner jaw without striking. The others hissed and made room. She looked for Harris and Cardona among resin-set bodies and found only strangers, some with open mouths frozen in the walls.

In the power plant the Queen sat on an ovipositor, crested, with extra arms, about twice as tall and three times as broad as the hunters outside. A sea of eggs twitched in the steam and did not open for her. The Queen put her head close, hissed, then drew back and kept laying. Goodwin knelt, took off the headset, and filmed the chamber. The walk was about forty-five minutes each way. Bloch wanted her back in cryo before the embryo ran out of time. He treated a Queen embryo as a matter of days and an ordinary one as hours.

Bloch Dies In The Hangar

They loaded Bloch's canvases onto a truck because a hand cart would not move the stack. Bloch wanted the work off-world so Fade would think he had left empty-handed, then shown later as proof of what the Company had done. Ryder opened the shelter and the hangar. Halfway there the rearview filled with the swarm. Goodwin pushed the truck through mud and alleys rather than hit a body and splash acid. The truck spun inside the bay. Ryder got the doors down before the adults in the street came in.

Gnosis had two cryo tubes, not three. Sam offered to draw straws with Bloch. Goodwin needed a tube at once. An adult Xenomorph landed on the truck cab while they unloaded. Goodwin tackled Bloch down the ramp. The creature pinned her, screeched, and still did not kill an impregnated host. Bloch went back toward the paintings, spread his arms, and said Mother. The inner jaw punched through the back of his skull. The Xenomorph ate him in the bay while the canvases sat on the truck bed.

Gnosis Breaks Orbit

Sam dragged Goodwin aboard and rammed the closed hangar doors. A Xenomorph clung to the viewport through that crash. He switched to manual, put the shuttle through a barrel roll, and shook it off in the storm. Ion interference rattled the climb until the Fratto sat against the sun. The frigate ordered them back or it would fire. Goodwin asked for Diaz, gave the password, and waited while the lieutenant decided whether an infected ship should leave. Diaz told them to move along and not to come back.

Sam set a months-long course for the nearest inhabited system, with fuel and cryo enough to get there. Goodwin planned to reach Roman Fade for surgery, or for a doctor who could take the embryo out without killing her, even if Fade paid for the specimen. The paintings stayed on the hangar floor under the blockade. She had no proof of the Queen, the hive, or Bloch's last work. She asked Sam to marry her so he would not leave while she was frozen. He kissed her and said he would give it serious thought. Cryo took her under, and for the first time the dreams were sweet.

DSJ-1020 And New Providence

DSJ-1020 sat in the MJ-419 system past the Solomons, the second of four worlds around a yellow-white star. The planet needed no terraforming. It was cold and stormy, about seventy percent ocean, with forest and grassland on the rest. New Providence was the only colony, a prefab farm town behind a metal wall, with a hangar and a power plant that became the hive.

The Fratto held orbit and turned other traffic away. Bloch's Gnosis had no weapons and a range of about thirteen parsecs. Fortune's Dawn, flown by Flavio, had towed that shuttle part of the way in. Off-world Company control, not the Marines on the frigate, sealed the colonists out of shelter 01.

Confirmed Xenomorph Kills

A Chestburster came out of the dog Quilbo and killed Loewen White in the forest tent. Adult Xenomorphs killed Harris outside the New Providence wall. One adult killed Corinth Bloch in the hangar and ate him there. Danielle Cardona was taken on watch and was never found alive. Bloch treated an impregnated missing person as already dead.

The New Providence colonists died in the outbreak and at the locked shelter, unnamed in the present-day story. Compton was lost in the crash, not to a Xenomorph. The AF-617 dead in Bloch's memoir, including Molly Bloch and Leanna Hixson, were killed by the earlier transfigured colonists, not by Facehuggers.

Cynthia Goodwin was captain of the USCSS Chariot. She took the Facehugger in Sam's place, filmed the Queen, and left DSJ-1020 on the Gnosis still carrying the embryo.
Sam Kurzel was the Chariot's pilot and Goodwin's partner. He rammed the hangar doors, shook a Xenomorph off the viewport, and stayed awake to fly the months-long run.
Compton was the Chariot's synthetic. The crash pulled him through a hull breach, and Goodwin and Sam treated him as destroyed.
Danielle Cardona was a nineteen-year-old cargo handler. An adult Xenomorph took her on night watch. Ryder's later hive search found no living humans.

Alice Goodwin was Cynthia's mother and the earlier Chariot captain. She got young Bloch off AF-617 and later died of lung cancer at forty-seven.
Jared Briscoe was the Fratto corporal on graveyard sensors. Diaz ordered him to forget Gnosis both times it passed the blockade.
Lieutenant Diaz commanded the Fratto watch that cleared inbound and outbound traffic with a password, then told Goodwin this was the last time.
Ryder was a Weyland-Yutani synthetic on Bloch's headset. The comm link was lost with Bloch. The unit's last state is unknown.
Quilbo was a golden retriever the crew found in the forest. A Chestburster came out of him in White's tent.

Place In The Titan Line

Titan released David Barnett's Alien: Colony War and Philippa Ballantine's Alien: Inferno's Fall in 2022, then Mary SanGiovanni's Alien: Enemy of My Enemy in 2023, all set in the 2180s. Brendan Deneen's Alien: Uncivil War landed on 30 July 2024 as a standalone after Alien: Resurrection. Ballantine and Clara Carija's Alien: Seventh Circle followed in January 2025 and stayed with the Jackals. Perfect Organisms came out in October and November 2025 as another standalone, on DSJ-1020 rather than a numbered sequel to that run. Gavin G. Smith's Alien: Cult landed later that year on Alexandria Colony and Gamma Leporis 3.

Continuity

The novel never prints a calendar year for the rescue. Bloch was born on 9 July 2159 and was already a known painter in the early 2180s, so the Chariot job sits after Aliens and Alien 3. The book never names those films in the present-day plot. Bloch's dossier instead uses Morse's Space Beast for Fury 161, the dog-born dragon, and Ripley's furnace death. Earthsavers tried to stop the USCSS Covenant run to Origae-6 in 2103.

Weyland-Yutani is a living company here, with a slush-fund outbreak, a Marine blockade it can bribe, and remote control of a colony shelter. Fade supplied the five eggs. The creatures are standard XX121 stock: egg, Facehugger, Chestburster, adult, and a Queen on an ovipositor. There is no new caste. The AF-617 / Source Falls parasites in Bloch's childhood are a separate event, and the book does not make them Xenomorphs.

Goodwin's old nightmares predate this Queen. Bloch repeats Company talk that Queens can touch human minds in dreams, then treats that as unproven. He also treated something larger than a Queen as possible, the way Duncan Fields and the Earthsavers used the phrase OTBD, out there be demons. Cardona's body is never recovered. The paintings stay on the hangar floor under the Fratto quarantine.

Behind The Scenes

Shaun Hamill had written A Cosmology of Monsters and The Dissonance, and later Solomon Kane: Suffer the Witch. He took an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and worked from North Texas. The acknowledgements say a middle-school copy of Steve and Stephani Perry's Aliens vs. Predator: Prey started the wish to write in this setting. George Sandison introduced him to Titan. Steve Saffel opened the Alien-novel talk before he retired. Daquan Cadogan pitched the idea to Disney. Fenton Coulthurst edited the manuscript. Hamill's agent was Kent D. Wolf. The book is dedicated to Dan O'Bannon.

AvP Galaxy posted the title on 1 April 2025 and had the cover up by 4 April 2025. Titan put the paperback and ebook on 28 October 2025 in the United Kingdom and 18 November 2025 in the United States. No cover artist is credited in the scanned book or on Titan's product page.

Alien: Perfect Organisms is Shaun Hamill's 2025 Titan novel about Cynthia Goodwin taking the Chariot to New Providence for Corinth Bloch.
