Clem Madey was the junior security officer on the Weyland-Yutani deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot in Alien: Earth, played by Tom Moya. Working under chief security officer Kumi Morrow, he shook Morrow out of hypersleep after the containment fire, secured the specimen zoo with science officer Chibuzo, and ran a recovery program on deleted ship communications that exposed the saboteur. About seventeen days from Earth in 2120 he stayed armed through the mess-hall emergency, then was wounded and fatally shot by chief engineer Petrovich while Morrow dragged him into the lab for cover before the Maginot hit Prodigy City.

Biography

Aboard The USCSS Maginot

Clem Madey's recorded message home playing on a Maginot monitor in Alien: Earth

Clem Madey joined the Maginot before or during its 2055 launch on Weyland-Yutani's sixty-five-year specimen-collection voyage. As junior security officer he reported to Morrow, wore Maginot mission gear, and spent long stretches in stasis with the rest of the crew between changeovers. When channels were open he sent personal messages home; recovered communications later catch him mid-greeting with "Hey, Mom. Hey, Dad--" before Morrow skipped ahead through the recovered files. Across the long run he also knew that executive officer Zoya Zaveri and science officer Bronski were in a relationship, and he had recorded some of their encounters.

Morrow sometimes used the unflattering nickname "Chlamydia," which Clem asked him not to use — "I told you not to call me that, please" — when Morrow ordered him and Chibuzo to the zoo during the crisis. The pair still worked the Maginot's security detail together when the waking roster put them both up. That chain of command put Clem first on the scene when containment failed on the return approach to Earth.

Containment Fire And Morrow

In 2120, about seventeen days from Earth, a fire in containment damaged navigational systems and engine relays and freed Facehuggers onto captain RJ Dinsdale and Bronski. Clem woke Morrow from hypersleep — "Morrow. Hey, Morrow, wake up" — and briefed him while the alarm was still up: fire in containment, "two of the clam things" out (the "octopus with the long fingers"), Dinsdale dead, Bronski compromised, both moved to medbay. He also told Morrow that Bronski and Zaveri had been intimate for about eight months and offered the recording; Morrow went to see the medbay for himself. There Rahim explained that cutting into the Facehugger on Dinsdale had spilled acid and killed the captain.

During an earlier changeover about four months from Earth, Clem had been visible in the background during a mess meal rather than seated with the main table, then returned to stasis with the rest of the off-duty roster. The seventeen-day crisis was the first time the junior security officer held the waking Maginot together with Morrow against an active breach.

Zoo Sweep And Saboteur Hunt

Morrow sent Clem with Chibuzo to the specimen zoo to confirm the remaining containers were secure. Clem wanted to clear the room first — "Hey, wait, wait, wait. Let me sweep the place first" — before Chibuzo noted that all container readings were already green. Zaveri then told Clem to find navigator Teng so Teng could help Rahim put Bronski into a cryotube and prep Dinsdale for burial in space. Clem later helped Rahim and Teng freeze Bronski, and asked, "Why do they want these things anyway?" Rahim answered that it was about corporate power: five companies controlling everything, and Weyland-Yutani collecting "the most terrifying" specimens to stay on top.

When Morrow suspected sabotage, he took Clem to the armory and armed him with electronic rounds meant to stun specimens rather than kill them. Clem protested that the loose aliens would try to kill the crew, and also said the saboteur could be anybody, even him. Morrow paused, asked him directly if he was the saboteur, then released the weapon once Clem said he was not — that he was only making the point. Clem reported that someone had deleted the communications files and that he was already running a recovery program; Morrow told him innocent people did not destroy evidence.

Mess Hall Emergency

After a Chestburster escaped from Bronski's cryopod, Zaveri called the waking crew into the mess hall. She told them Bronski was dead, a Xenomorph was loose, and they would sweep the ship to capture it. Morrow declared a shipwide emergency, demanded duty rosters and activity logs within an hour, ordered travel in pairs, and started interviews of off-duty personnel. Only Zaveri, Clem, and Morrow stayed armed until Morrow was sure who was innocent.

Mother's recovery of the deleted communications finished while interviews ran; among the restored files were Clem's home message, crew check-ins, and Petrovich's deal with Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier to crash the Maginot into Kavalier's territory for a new body and wealth. After ticks killed Rahim, Chibuzo, and apprentice engineer Malachite, Clem reached the group and reported that something had also killed Teng — "Something big." Morrow ordered a move to seal the bridge, told Shmuel and Zaveri to transfer engine functions, and kept Clem with him to wake the remaining crew from cryo.

Fight With Petrovich

En route to the cryochamber, Clem asked, "What's wrong with Zaveri?" as Morrow took command. Morrow reminded him to use the electric rounds so they would not hurt the specimens; Clem shot back, "Hurt them? What about us?" Petrovich then ambushed them with an armory pistol. Clem was hit; Morrow dragged him into the nearby zoo lab for cover and told him to hang in there. In the exchange of fire Petrovich fatally shot Clem in the head. Morrow left the body, circled out another door, and later impaled Petrovich with his cybernetic arm, but Clem was already dead.

Death

Clem's body was left on the zoo lab floor after Morrow slipped out another door to go after Petrovich. Escaped Species 19 leech specimens found the corpse there and drained it of blood. When the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City in New Siam, Prodigy search-and-rescue soldiers sweeping the wreck found his exsanguinated body. They noted the bullet wounds while trying to decide whether the crash had killed him; Clem had in fact died before impact, shot by Petrovich in the zoo lab.

Personality And Traits

Clem mixed junior-rank caution with blunt honesty when the Maginot started coming apart. He told Morrow the saboteur could be anyone, including himself, then stood for the direct question and took the gun. He asked Rahim the mission's real purpose while freezing Bronski, pushed back on cargo-first electric rounds with "Hurt them? What about us?", and asked what was wrong with Zaveri when command shifted under him. He kept recovering deleted logs instead of waiting for someone else to own that trail.

The same loyalty that put him at Morrow's side also put him in Petrovich's line of fire. He preferred clearing rooms before scientists walked in, argued against non-lethal rounds when specimens were trying to kill the crew, and stayed armed through the mess-hall lockdown. Morrow's nickname grated on him, but the chain of command held until the saboteur ended it in the zoo lab.

Conclusion

Clem Madey was the Maginot junior security officer who woke Morrow, secured the zoo with Chibuzo, recovered the deleted saboteur logs, and stayed armed through the mess-hall emergency. He asked the hard questions about the mission and the saboteur, then died in the zoo lab when Petrovich finished the gunfight Morrow could not stop in time. Species 19 drained his body before the crash; Prodigy troops found what was left in New Siam. The Maginot lost its junior security officer before it hit Earth, and the deal Petrovich struck still shaped the war over the wreck.
