The irradiated Xenomorph was a bioluminescent Xenomorph adult from Aliens: Aftermath, Marvel's 2021 one-shot set in 2214 on LV-426. It hunted through the nuclear winter that buried the ruins of Hadley's Hope after the atmosphere processor blast of 2179. Radiation left the creature glowing through its own skeleton, and its blood behaved like liquid nitrogen when it spilled. It killed most of the extremist journalism crew Renegade XM, then met its end when leader Cutter Vasquez fired a pulse rifle into its body at point-blank range in a mutual last stand.
History
Survivor Of The Blast
Decades after the atmosphere processor destroyed Hadley's Hope, a nuclear winter still covered LV-426. Most of the hive that once ruled the colony was gone, but at least one adult Xenomorph endured in the wreckage. Fallout from the blast left its body translucent and bioluminescent, so the creature glowed through the dark corridors like a living X-ray. When Renegade XM landed in 2214 to dig for the truth Weyland-Yutani had erased, that survivor was still hunting the ruins.
Pilot Drake stayed with the damaged ship while Cutter Vasquez, Lela Rosewood, and Woody Ballesteros pushed into the colony. An unseen attacker killed Drake in the snow before the others returned, and the irradiated hunter was the only living Xenomorph left in those ruins. Cutter kept the cameras rolling as the crew found resin-coated corridors, colony logs in Mother, and a cryostasis host labeled Subject Zero. The glowing adult waited among the pipes for the moment the group split.
Ambush On Lela
Cutter tethered down to help Woody while Lela held the upper deck and kept Mother online. From the pipes above her terminal a translucent, bioluminescent Xenomorph dropped onto her suit. Lela put rounds into the creature as it closed, and its cryogenic blood froze her suited arm solid on contact. The limb shattered when she struck a surface, and the irradiated hunter pinned her to the deck and finished her before Cutter could climb back.
Gunfire from the fight reached Cutter and Woody as muffled reports through the decks. Cutter did not climb back for Lela. He kept moving toward the Subject Zero cryostasis chamber Mother had flagged, treating the frozen colonist as the prize that justified the raid. The irradiated hunter left Lela's body and began stalking the remaining crew through the ruined colony.
Pulse Rifle Fight
The creature returned as Cutter hauled Subject Zero clear of the resin sublevels. A holographic Ms. Yutani warned that his claim of being death-proof was about to be tested, and the glowing adult came through the dark on cue. Cutter opened fire with a pulse rifle. The irradiated Xenomorph leapt through the rounds, took hits that sprayed its cryogenic blood, and still closed the gap while stray fire severed the pod's tether and dropped the chamber back beside Woody.
Death
At point-blank range the hunter cracked Cutter's helmet and pressed in for the kill. Cutter jammed the rifle into the creature's torso and shouted that if he died, it died with him, then fired into its body. The comic leaves both figures in that clinch, and their deaths are the clear outcome of the exchange. Renegade XM was finished on LV-426, while the Subject Zero pod Woody reached still carried a living chestburster.
Traits And Abilities
The irradiated adult kept the elongated dome, dorsal tubes, and clawed build of a standard Drone or Warrior, but radiation had rewritten its surface. Its carapace glowed cyan-white and turned translucent enough to show ribs and spine through the hide, so it read as a living X-ray in the dark rather than another pale specimen from the franchise's wider albino Xenomorph gallery. That glow made it unmistakable in Hadley's Hope's blacked-out corridors and gave Ms. Yutani's feed a clear visual marker for the "perfect predator" still loose on the moon.
Its blood no longer burned like ordinary Xenomorph acid. Spilled fluid acted like liquid nitrogen, freezing suit fabric and flesh on contact until Lela's arm shattered under the cryogenic burn. The creature still used classic ambush habits - dropping from pipes, pinning prey on the deck, and shrugging off enough pulse-rifle hits to close for a kill - but that mutated blood made even a glancing wound lethal to anyone nearby. Only Cutter's final point-blank burst into its torso ended the hunt.
Behind The Scenes
Marvel published Aliens: Aftermath on July 14, 2021 as a one-shot for the thirty-fifth anniversary of Aliens, written by Benjamin Percy and drawn by Dave Wachter, with a Phil Noto cover that put the glowing adult in the foreground of Hadley's Hope. The comic never gives the specimen an official name; "irradiated Xenomorph" is the descriptive label used across coverage of the issue. The story places the creature decades after the colony's fall and treats the radiation mutation as a one-off survivor trait, not a new caste rolled out across other titles.
Conclusion
The irradiated Xenomorph was the glowing adult that survived Hadley's Hope's nuclear winter and hunted Renegade XM through the colony in 2214. Cryogenic blood and ambush speed made it deadly at close range. Cutter Vasquez killed it in a mutual last stand by firing a pulse rifle into its body as it killed him.
