Malachite was an engineering apprentice on the Weyland-Yutani deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot in Alien: Earth, played by Jamie Bisping. He served under chief engineer Petrovitch and worked beside engineer Shmuel through the ship's final approach to Earth in 2120. After drinking water contaminated by escaped Species 19 offspring, juvenile blood ticks lined his esophagus and killed him during medbay surgery along with doctor Rahim and science officer Chibuzo.
Biography
Aboard The USCSS Maginot
Malachite joined the Maginot as an engineering apprentice before or during its long specimen-collection voyage for Weyland-Yutani. His jumpsuit carried a MALACHITE name tape, and ship monitors later listed him as an engineering apprentice under the Maginot engineering department headed by Petrovitch. On the final approach he worked the power and propulsion spaces beside Shmuel, who treated him as the junior hand in the bay rather than as a peer officer. By the last months of the run he was one of the few engineering crew left awake to keep the ship moving toward Earth.
The apprenticeship left Malachite short on corporate schooling and long on repair duty. Crewmates joked that he had not done his social studies when the five-company map of Earth came up at the mess table. He stayed close to Shmuel through cryo changeovers, card games, and the everyday work of a ship that had spent decades collecting specimens for the company. That pairing put him in the engineering spaces when the Maginot's systems began to fail on the way home.
Four Months From Earth
In 2120, with about four months left to Earth, Malachite woke with the changeover crew and ate in the Maginot mess hall. He asked Shmuel and the table to walk him through the corporate map again, then guessed that Weyland-Yutani also held the Moon. Executive officer Zoya Zaveri corrected him: Luna belonged to Dynamic, while Yutani held North and South America, Mars, and Saturn. Shmuel counted five companies that divided Earth and the outer colonies, and Malachite admitted he could not follow the whole picture.
When Captain RJ Dinsdale reported that the ship was burning too much fuel and asked for systems they could shut down, Shmuel offered to shoot scientist Chibuzo's specimens into space and shut down her zoo. Malachite agreed that the specimens gave him the creeps. Chief security officer Kumi Morrow cut the talk short and reminded the table that the specimens were the mission. Dinsdale went back into cryo and left Zaveri in charge of the waking crew for the rest of the approach.
Repairs After The Containment Fire
About seventeen days from Earth, a fire in containment fried navigational systems and engine relays and left the Maginot on a dangerous approach. Malachite and Shmuel worked the engineering spaces while Morrow hunted for a saboteur and Zaveri took command after Dinsdale died. Escaped Facehuggers and a growing Xenomorph tore through other decks, but the apprentice stayed on repair duty beside his mentor. When a fuel-pod blast dropped reserves to about eight percent, the engineering pair kept confirming how little margin the ship had left.
Ship systems and crew patience both wore thin as the crisis deepened. Malachite remained the junior voice in the bay, asking for tools, carrying food, and following Shmuel's lead on which panels to open. The Maginot was flying on fumes, and the apprentice's share of the work was to keep relays and engine function alive long enough for someone to bring the ship home. That repair grind put him in the mess hall when Zaveri called the surviving crew together for an emergency briefing.
Mess Hall Briefing
In the mess hall Zaveri told the remaining crew that science officer Bronski was dead, a Xenomorph was loose, fuel was nearly gone, and a saboteur was aboard. She declared a ship-wide emergency and suspended non-duty movement. Malachite kept eating through the meeting and joked that when life gave you food you ate, which was what his mum used to say. Zaveri docked him a one-sixteenth share on the record for treating the briefing like a meal.
Shmuel told Morrow to stop picking on the kid when the table turned on the apprentice. Malachite then coughed hard enough that Chibuzo and Shmuel noticed, brushed it off as something hot, and later answered yes when Morrow asked whether anyone wanted a reward for information that led to an arrest. After Zaveri dismissed them, he told Shmuel not to waste food and asked if the older engineer wanted anything. Shmuel told him to grab a snack and leave him alone so the open panels could get done without the apprentice underfoot.
Shares In The Engine Bay
Before the illness took him down, Malachite sat with Shmuel in a dark bay while the older engineer worked an open panel under twin headlamps. He asked what Shmuel would do with his shares when they got back and guessed the money would buy Shmuel's wife something nice. Shmuel answered that when he left Earth his wife had been thirty-one, and that she would look like his grandmother by the time he came home. He told the apprentice that the company was not paying them for the work itself but for sixty-five years of their lives, at the price of a quarter share, and that the same pitch would send a man out on another mission.
That talk framed the Maginot contract the way Shmuel understood it, and Malachite heard it as the junior hand who expected to cash the same shares someday. He laughed through a personal recording in which he called himself a space engineer's apprentice and admitted he was not entirely sure what apprentice meant. Moments later he said he had eaten too much, passed Shmuel a wrench when asked, and stayed in the bay while the older man kept repairing the ship. The share talk was the last calm exchange the two engineers had before the apprentice's body gave out.
Collapse
Shortly after the bay talk, Malachite began vomiting blood and lost consciousness in the engineering spaces. Shmuel got him to the medbay while Morrow was tracking chief engineer Petrovitch as the saboteur who had been pretending to stay in cryo. Rahim called Zaveri on an urgent channel: the kid had started puking blood and would not wake. The medical emergency overtook the saboteur hunt, and the surviving command group moved straight to Medbay One.
The collapse was not a random fever. An escaped Blood Tick had contaminated a water bottle with offspring earlier in the crisis, and Malachite had drunk from that supply. Juvenile ticks lined his digestive tract and main artery while the Maginot burned toward Earth on fumes. By the time Rahim and Chibuzo had him on the table, the apprentice was bleeding out from parasites he had swallowed without knowing it.
Tick Surgery And Death
Scans showed six dark bodies lining Malachite's esophagus and main artery. Rahim asked to open him up rather than freeze him, warning that a cryopod delay would kill him, and Zaveri authorized the surgery over Morrow's contamination objection. Chibuzo identified the bodies as ticks from Species 19, the blood-siphoning parasites catalogued among the Maginot specimens. When Rahim tried to pull one free, the creatures released a toxin that killed Rahim, Chibuzo, and Malachite together in the sealed medbay.
Morrow forced Zaveri to seal Medbay One with the dead inside once the toxin hit. Malachite never left that room. The engineering apprentice who had joked about mum's food advice and asked Shmuel about shares died on the table as one more cost of the specimens the company refused to dump. After the medbay deaths Morrow took command from Zaveri, and the Maginot continued toward Earth without its junior engineer.
Personality And Traits
Malachite spoke like a junior hand who was learning the ship, the companies, and the contract that paid for the voyage. He was not the sharpest member of the crew. He asked for the corporate map twice, admitted he did not follow it, and laughed when he recorded that he was not sure what apprentice meant. In the emergency briefing he kept eating, quoted his mum, and took a docked share without dropping the joke, which put him under Morrow and Zaveri's anger until Shmuel stepped in.
With Shmuel alone he was softer: he offered snacks, warned against wasting food, asked about shares and a wife gift, and stayed in the bay to pass tools. The cough in the mess hall was the first clear sign that the infected water had turned against him, but he brushed it off and went back to work. Malachite never became the hard company voice Morrow wanted. He stayed the kid Shmuel protected, and that same ordinary thirst for water and food is what the Species 19 ticks used to kill him.
Behind The Scenes
Jamie Bisping played Malachite in three 2025 episodes of Alien: Earth, "Neverland", "Mr. October" and "In Space, No One...". The series credits list the character as an engineer's apprentice aboard the Maginot, and most of his scenes were played opposite Michael Smiley as Shmuel. Before Alien: Earth, Bisping appeared in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and the film Piglets, and he also had a role in the series Things You Should Have Done.

Conclusion
Malachite was the Maginot engineering apprentice who learned the five-company map at the mess table, agreed the specimens were wrong, and stayed beside Shmuel while the ship burned fuel and lost containment. He took a docked share for eating through an emergency briefing, asked what company shares were really buying, and collapsed after drinking water seeded by Species 19 ticks. The surgery meant to save him killed him with Rahim and Chibuzo, and the Maginot flew on without the junior engineer who never made it home to spend a quarter share.
