Teng was the navigator on the Weyland-Yutani deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot in Alien: Earth, played by Andy Yu. He kept the Maginot on course through the final approach to Earth in 2120, answered fuel and distance questions with dry sarcasm, and spent off hours watching crewmate Sullivan in hypersleep until chief security officer Kumi Morrow warned him off. During Morrow's sabotage interview he pointed at empty cryopod logs that exposed the saboteur, then stayed behind in the interview room and was killed by a Xenomorph before the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City.

Biography

Aboard The USCSS Maginot

Teng joined the Maginot before or during its 2055 launch on the company specimen-collection voyage. His navy utility jacket carried a Maginot mission patch and a navigator name tape, and his post put him on the bridge for course, fuel, and distance calls. Across the sixty-five-year run he spent long stretches in stasis with the rest of the crew, then came up on changeovers when the ship needed awake hands. Crew talk later made clear he also spent unhealthy time watching Sullivan while she slept in hypersleep, enough that Morrow had already warned him once.

That reputation followed him into the final months of the mission. Medical officer Rahim joked about it at the mess table, and science officer Chibuzo noted he had stopped for a while, while Morrow still kept him under watch. Navigation duty still put him next to executive officer Zoya Zaveri and captain RJ Dinsdale whenever the Maginot needed a hard number. The same bridge seat later put him next to engineer Shmuel when fuel reserves collapsed.

Four Months From Earth

In 2120, with about four months left to Earth and roughly 805 million miles still to go, the changeover crew woke for a mess meal. Teng sat apart from the main table with Ortiz until Rahim told the room he had been staring at Sullivan in stasis and had already drawn a Morrow warning. He then walked over and hovered by Sullivan until Morrow called him away again. When Zaveri asked how long to Earth's orbit, he first answered in seconds, then admitted they were four months out, give or take a few days.

Captain Dinsdale told the table that comms were down, log files were corrupt, and the ship was burning too much fuel. Morrow said security would investigate, and Dinsdale told Zaveri and Teng to find systems they could shut down to save fuel. Shmuel offered to dump Chibuzo's specimen zoo, and Morrow cut that talk short because the specimens were the mission. Dinsdale then went back into cryo and left Zaveri in charge of the waking crew.

Facehuggers And Fuel Crisis

About seventeen days from Earth a fire in containment fried navigational systems and engine relays and let Facehuggers onto Dinsdale and science officer Bronski. Zaveri ordered Teng out of the mess hall to help Rahim put Bronski into a cryotube and to prep Dinsdale's body for burial in space. After that work Teng went back to Sullivan's capsule and stared again until Rahim threatened to call the captain, and Teng answered that the captain was already dead. A fuel pod then blew, and on the bridge Shmuel, Teng, and Zaveri were joined by Morrow.

Zaveri asked Teng for privacy so Shmuel could speak, and Teng answered that the hole in the ship after the engine fire was obvious. Shmuel reported fuel reserves at 8 percent, with about twenty-four hours before the Maginot went from missile to arrow. Morrow demanded navigational control while repairs dragged, and Zaveri wanted the rest of the crew woken. Then MU/TH/UR announced a cryopod quarantine breach as the Facehugger embryo in Bronski matured into a Xenomorph and broke free.

Mess Hall Briefing

In the mess hall Teng and Rahim were smoking when Chibuzo complained about the cigarettes before Zaveri called the room to order. Teng offered a short apology while Rahim argued, and Chibuzo said that was why she preferred to eat in the lab. Zaveri told the crew Bronski was dead, a Xenomorph was loose, and they would sweep the ship to capture it. Teng told her to tell them about the fuel, and after she admitted the major fuel breach he added that they were flying on fumes.

Morrow then declared a shipwide emergency, demanded duty rosters and activity logs, ordered travel in pairs, and started interviews of off-duty personnel. Only Zaveri, junior security officer Clem, and Morrow stayed armed until he was sure who was innocent. The briefing left Teng under the same movement rules as everyone else who was not security. It also set him up for the interview that would kill him.

Morrow Interview And Death

Teng screaming in terror as the Xenomorph attacks him aboard the Maginot in Alien: Earth

Morrow interviewed Teng about the fuel-pod blast and the saboteur. Teng said he had been on the bridge when the pod blew and told Morrow to check the nav logs. Morrow said logs could be forged, then pressed him about still visiting Sullivan at night and asked how he was bypassing the keypad. Teng told him he was missing the point: just because the computer said a cryopod was full did not mean it was full all the time.

Morrow realized someone listed as asleep was actually awake, and left once recovered comms files pointed at chief engineer Petrovitch. Teng stayed behind in the interview area. A Xenomorph came down from an overhead vent and killed him there. After the Maginot crashed in Prodigy City, New Siam, Morrow later told Yutani that it had gotten Teng among the dead left aboard before impact.

Personality And Traits

Teng spoke slowly and carefully, and answered hard questions with dry distance rather than panic. He gave Zaveri Earth's range in seconds before admitting the four-month figure, told Rahim the captain was dead when warned off Sullivan's capsule, and told the mess hall they were flying on fumes when Zaveri softened the fuel news. On the bridge he refused the polite fiction that the fuel hole needed explaining. In Morrow's interview he held back the cryopod tip until pressed, then handed over the one fact that pointed at a waking saboteur.

The same quiet habits made him a problem for the rest of the crew. Watching Sullivan in hypersleep was open knowledge, and Morrow treated it as filth and as a possible cover for vent travel. Teng still did the navigation work the Maginot needed, helped move Bronski into cryo, and stayed at his post through the fuel collapse. That mix of obsession, sarcasm, and useful silence defined him until the Xenomorph ended the interview.

Behind The Scenes

Andy Yu played Teng in two 2025 episodes of Alien: Earth, "Neverland" and "In Space, No One...". The series credits list the character as the Maginot navigator, and most of his speaking time sits in the Episode 5 Maginot flashback opposite Babou Ceesay as Morrow and Richa Moorjani as Zaveri. Production stills from the Maginot set show him in the navy navigator jacket with the USCSS Maginot shoulder patch used across the waking crew.

Famous Quotes

  • "Captain's dead."
  • "So he can tell you somebody blew a hole in the ship after setting fire to our engine controls."
  • "Tell 'em about the fuel."
  • "Fumes."
  • "I was on the bridge when the fuel pod blew. Check the nav logs."
  • "Sure. And some people say all this is just a simulation. But that's not the conversation we're having."
  • "You're missing it."
  • "It's right in front of you, but you can't see it."
  • "Just because the computer says a cryopod is full doesn't mean it is... all the time."

Conclusion

Teng was the Maginot navigator who kept the distance and fuel numbers while the ship burned down to fumes and lost containment. He watched Sullivan in hypersleep against Morrow's warnings, helped move Bronski after the Facehugger attack, and forced the mess hall to face the fuel breach. In the sabotage interview he gave Morrow the cryopod clue that exposed Petrovitch, then died alone when the Xenomorph came through the vent. The Maginot flew on without its navigator into the Prodigy City crash.
