Scar Predator: Profile Of The Main AvP Predator

By | Published May 13, 2025

Scar Predator is the most well-known and capable Yautja from the first Alien vs. Predator movie. The only one from the trio of Young Bloods to be blooded, Scar teamed up with Alexa Woods and defeated the Alien Queen. He was a silent but fierce warrior who respected strength, courage, and the hunt's ancient traditions. Here is the full profile of Scar Predator, including his actions from the movie and an overview of his gear and weapons.

While Celtic was the leader of the Young Blood trio and Chopper was the first to encounter a Xenomorph, Scar ultimately became the film’s central Predator. Being also the youngest of the trio, he was slightly leaner in build than Celtic but more agile and tactical in his movements. From early on, Scar demonstrated a level of patience and situational awareness that his brothers lacked. Scar Predator got his name from the self-inflicted blooding scar on his forehead, being the only Yautja from the three brothers to be blooded. His careful nature allowed him to initially survive the pyramid's ever-changing structure, the sudden release of the Xenomorphs, and the unpredictable human expedition.

Arrival On Earth

Scar arrived on Earth in the year 2004, onboard a Predator mothership alongside Celtic and Chopper. Their destination was Bouvet Island in Antarctica, where an ancient pyramid built by their ancestors rested hidden beneath the ice. The pyramid was used for centuries as a training ground for Young Blood Predators undergoing their initiation hunts. Upon arrival, the mothership fired a concentrated plasma beam to drill a vertical shaft through the ice and snow, creating an entrance to the pyramid below. Each Predator descended in individual drop pods, landing near an abandoned whaling station that served as the Weyland expedition’s base. Clad in ceremonial armor and equipped with their signature weapons, the trio began their deadly rite of passage—intended to test their worthiness by hunting Xenomorphs in a controlled environment.

First Kills At The Whaling Station

As the hunt began, the Young Blood Predators launched a swift and deadly attack on the human presence at the whaling station. Scar, while not the most aggressive of the three, participated with efficiency and restraint. He avoided unnecessary brutality, focusing instead on tracking their stolen weapons and monitoring the humans’ movements. Celtic and Chopper engaged more directly, but Scar kept to the shadows, analyzing the situation. His tactics reflected a level of maturity not usually associated with unblooded warriors. Although Scar didn't rack up the highest human body count in this scene, his methodical approach laid the groundwork for his survival later in the film.

Entering The Pyramid

Scar, Celtic, and Chopper Predator in the pyramid

The ancient pyramid beneath the ice was the true battleground of the film, filled with booby traps, shifting walls, and a temple-like maze. Scar and his brothers entered the structure using the data on their wrist gauntlets, which displayed a holographic map of the internal layout. The pyramid was rigged to shift every ten minutes, challenging the Predators and their prey to adapt quickly or die. Once inside, the Yautja discovered that their Plasmacasters had been taken by the humans, which triggered the release of the Xenomorphs from the sacrificial chamber below. Scar, alongside Celtic and Chopper, began hunting the humans both to retrieve their stolen gear and to fulfill their ritual. The pyramid soon became a deadly three-way battleground between Predator, Alien, and human.

Fight With Mercenaries

As the humans explored the pyramid, Scar encountered several of them in close-quarters combat. Though the humans had firearms, they were hopelessly outmatched by Predator technology and physical strength. Scar dispatched several mercenaries using his combistick with deadly efficiency. He used some flashy moves while jumping overhead the mercenaries using his cloak, and killed a human with the Yautja noose. Celtic Predator joined in the fray and dispatched Maxwell Stafford with his netgun. The pyramid’s labyrinthine structure and the Yautja statues created an intense, claustrophobic environment, and Scar used it to his advantage.

Killing Weyland

Scar’s confrontation with Charles Bishop Weyland marked one of his few moments of hesitation and judgment. Weyland, already terminally ill, attempted to confront Scar with a makeshift flamethrower made from a damaged oxygen tank. Initially, Scar spared the older man, perceiving him as weak and unworthy prey. However, once Weyland attacked, Scar reconsidered and stabbed him with his wristblades. This act reflected the Yautja code: killing should be based on merit and threat, not on helplessness.

Blooding And Getting Facehugged

After killing his first Xenomorph in the pyramid, Scar performed the ancient custom by marking his forehead and bio-helmet with the creature’s acidic blood. This act symbolized his ascension from an unblooded Young Blood to a full-fledged Blooded Predator, earning him status and honor among his kind. However, this moment of triumph came with a hidden cost. Unknown to Scar, a Facehugger had latched onto him during the chaos of the battle, exploiting a moment of vulnerability. Despite his combat skills and advanced technology, even Scar could not prevent the parasitic organism from implanting an embryo within him. Surprisingly, he woke up shortly after the implantation, paying no attention to the dead Facehugger lying beside him or what it meant.

Team Up With Lex

Perhaps the most defining moment of Scar’s arc came when he spared Lex Woods and began to view her as a fellow warrior. After witnessing her bravery and ability to kill a Xenomorph on her own, Scar later marked Lex with the blood of a slain Alien. This ritual symbolized that she was now a hunter, not prey, in his eyes. He even gifted her weapons forged from Xenomorph parts: a shield made from a Xeno head and a spear from a tail. Together, Scar and Lex fought side by side through the pyramid and against overwhelming odds. This alliance was unprecedented in Predator lore and remains one of the film's most memorable and discussed elements.

Fight Against Xenomorphs

With Lex at his side and the plasma cannon on his shoulder, Scar took on wave after wave of Xenomorphs. These battles were brutal, close, and unpredictable. Scar used a combination of his wristblades and shoulder cannon to cut down the Alien threat. One particularly notable moment was when he caught and killed a Xenomorph mid-air, preventing it from ambushing Lex. The two worked in sync, covering each other and pressing forward to stop the Alien infestation. However, Grid Alien, the Xenomorph who had killed Chopper and Celtic, never fought Scar.

Escaping The Pyramid

After seeing a massive Xenomorph infestation with dozens of eggs, Scar detached his self-destruct device and set it to explode. The ancient structure was set to implode, and time was running out for both Lex and Scar. They activated a lift platform that carried them back to the surface through the same shaft they had entered from earlier. Once above ground, the cold Antarctic air offered no relief as the true final battle began. The Queen Alien had already escaped previously and now emerged from the ruins, furious and bent on revenge. Scar, already weakened from the growing chestburster and the previous fights, prepared for his last confrontation.

Fight With The Queen

The Queen's size and strength made her a terrifying opponent, capable of tearing through steel and Predator armor alike. Scar fought valiantly, using his shuriken and combistick to wound the creature. Lex played a crucial role by attaching a chain to the Queen and helping to pin her to a water tower. In a desperate act, Scar impaled the Queen with a large spear, buying enough time for her to be dragged into the ocean's icy depths. Though victorious, Scar was stabbed through his chest with the Queen's tail in the process, somehow missing the Predalien chestburster inside.

Death Of Scar Predator

Scar died on the frozen ice shortly after the Queen was defeated. Lex stayed with him as he took his final breaths, paying tribute to the fallen warrior. Moments later, the Predator mothership returned, and a group of Elder Yautja emerged to collect Scar’s body. Recognizing Lex’s bravery and the alliance she had formed with Scar, the Elder presented her with a ceremonial spear. Scar’s body was respectfully taken aboard the ship, but for some reason nobody scanned his body for a Xenomorph infection.

Birth Of The Predalien

The Predalien is born from Scar Predator

Inside the Predator Mothership, Scar's unmonitored corpse convulsed as a Chestburster emerged from his chest cavity. However, this was no ordinary Xenomorph—it carried Yautja DNA, creating a new hybrid Xenomorph: the Predalien. With Predator dreadlocks, mandibles, increased size and lighter skin, the Predalien represented a terrifying evolution in the Alien life cycle (although it appeared before in the Expanded Universe). This moment served as the cliffhanger ending of Alien vs. Predator. Thanks to this, Scar Predator was the only Yautja so far to appear in two different movies, although it is only his dead corpse. Scar Predator is partly to blame for the events of the second Aliens vs. Predator movie, as he must have known about his own facehugging.

Scar Predator's Weapons

Though Scar’s gear was nearly identical to his brother Celtic’s, he used his with more precision and purpose. Both Predators carried a Plasmacaster, wristblades, combistick, netgun (never used by him), and smart shuriken. Scar’s shuriken was used in several notable kills and became one of his signature weapons. While these Yautja weapons were powerful, they were not immune to acid damage from the Xenomorphs. Scar used his gear not only for offense but also to craft tools, like the shield he gave Lex. This practical use of battlefield resources showed a level of ingenuity uncommon in unblooded Yautja.

Armor And Gear

Scar’s armor was somewhat bulky yet functional, offering moderate protection while allowing mobility in tight environments. His bio-mask featured targeting systems, environmental filters, and a thermal vision display. The wrist gauntlet housed various systems, including the countdown timer and map interface. His cloak, Medicomp, and self-destruct device were standard issue for Young Bloods, though Scar showed greater proficiency in using them. After his first Xenomorph kill, he etched his own helmet with the blooded symbol, symbolizing his rite of passage. Scar’s gear may have looked similar to his brethren’s, but his usage of it set him apart.

Behind The Scenes

Scar Predator behind the scenes

Scar was portrayed by Ian Whyte, who also played the other Predators in the film. The suit was built from the same mold as Celtic and Chopper’s but was modified to reflect Scar’s more agile and heroic role. Sixteen suits in total were created for the three Predators, with minor adjustments in paint and armor design. Scar’s bio-mask was very similar to the Jungle Hunter's from the first Predator movie. Bulky armored Predators such as the three Young Bloods later showed up only in Expanded Lore, and future movies moved closer to the original Predator.

Conclusion

Scar Predator is widely recognized as the most prominent Yautja from Alien vs. Predator (2004). As the only member of the Young Blood hunting party to complete the blooding ritual, he distinguished himself by killing many Xenomorphs, including the Alien Queen. However, his blunder with getting facehugged led to many Predator deaths later.
