Graveyard Predator: The Yautja Who Killed The X-Men
Graveyard was a powerful Yautja and the eldest son of the Predator King in Marvel's non-canon crossover storyline. He appeared in Predator versus Black Panther and became one of the main commanders in Predator Kills the Marvel Universe. As the favored son of the king, Graveyard carried royal status, advanced Vibranium weapons, and enough strength to lead one of the deadliest attacks in the invasion of Earth. His most important role was his assault on the Xavier Institute, where he helped destroy the X-Men and became obsessed with claiming Wolverine's adamantium skull as a trophy.
The Backstory Of the "Graveyard" Predator
Graveyard was the older brother of the Predator Prince and the strongest son of the Predator King. This made him the king's favored heir, but it also made him the target of his younger brother's jealousy. The Predator Prince challenged Graveyard to a blood hunt, with both brothers leading hunting parties against each other. Graveyard was given his father's Vibranium spear for the battle and defeated the Prince with it. Instead of granting his brother an honorable death, Graveyard humiliated him by tying him to a totem and abandoning him. The Prince survived and later tried to restore his honor by invading Wakanda to steal Vibranium. Although the heist succeeded, the Prince was killed while fleeing Earth. His stolen Vibranium returned to the Predator clan, giving the Predator King and Graveyard the materials they needed to strengthen their Yautja arsenal.
Graveyard And Kraven The Hunter
This chain of events from Predator vs. Black Panther helped set up the Predator King's invasion of Earth. The invasion became possible after Kraven the Hunter earned the clan's respect. In Predator vs. Spider-Man, Kraven killed Skinner, a dishonorable Yautja, and then spent more than a year among the Predators. Graveyard trained Kraven in the Yautja ways, while Kraven taught the clan about Earth's superheroes, their powers, their weaknesses, and the best ways to kill them. This exchange made Kraven the spearhead of the Great Hunt and turned the Yautja invasion into a coordinated strike against Earth's strongest defenders.
Attack On The Xavier Institute
During the invasion, Kraven led one hunting party against the Avengers while Graveyard led another against the X-Men. Graveyard's first move was to remove Magneto, one of the few heroes whose powers could turn the Predators' Vibranium weapons against them. His hunting party used a giant Vibranium magnet to pull Magneto from the Xavier Institute and crush him. Graveyard entered the mansion under the cover of a storm while the X-Men were training in the Danger Room. Graveyard struck Cyclops across the face with his Vibranium mace, breaking his jaw and beginning the massacre inside the mansion. The Predators killed and skinned mutants throughout the Xavier Institute, set the building ablaze, and left Wolverine to discover the ruins of his home. Wolverine previously fought the Yautja in Predator vs. Wolverine.
Graveyard Versus Wolverine
Wolverine reached the Xavier Institute after the attack and found the mansion burning and all the X-Men dead. Graveyard attacked Logan and quickly learned that Wolverine was unlike ordinary prey. A blast from Graveyard's mace burned away part of Wolverine's face and exposed his adamantium skull. Graveyard tried to finish him off, but Nightcrawler teleported Wolverine away before the killing blow. Graveyard tracked Wolverine and Nightcrawler into New York City, where the Yautja invasion had expanded into open warfare. Wolverine's enhanced senses allowed him to detect the cloaked Predator, but Graveyard still impaled him and nearly claimed his prize. Spider-Man pulled Wolverine away with a web, denying Graveyard the trophy again. Graveyard blasted Spider-Man in the back, but Iron Man rescued the heroes before the Predator could continue the pursuit.
The Final Battle
Graveyard found Wolverine again after Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Logan launched their counterattack. The heroes used Vibranium-powered Iron Man suits, temperature-based cloaking, and their previous experience with Predators to fight back against the invasion. Graveyard ambushed Wolverine with a mace blast that destroyed most of his armor, trying to finally claim the adamantium skull. Susan Storm sacrificed herself to destroy the Yautja mothership and killed the Predator King in the process. The explosion distracted Graveyard for only a half-second, but that was enough for Wolverine to overpower him. Logan severed Graveyard's arm, wounded him, and demanded that the Predator remove his mask. Wolverine then stabbed Graveyard through the eyes and face, killing the favored son of the Predator King and avenging the X-Men.
Weapons And Equipment
Graveyard used standard Yautja equipment as well as royal Vibranium weapons. His gear included a bio-helmet, wristblades, a wrist gauntlet, and the Predator King's loaned Vibranium spear. His most recognizable weapon during the invasion was his Vibranium mace, which could strike with enough force and energy to overwhelm mutants and damage advanced armor. The mace became especially important in his fights with Wolverine, where its blasts burned through flesh and later destroyed much of Logan's Vibranium-laced Iron Man suit.
Is Graveyard Predator Canon?
Graveyard was part of Marvel's licensed crossover continuity and should not be treated as canon to the main Alien, Predator, or Alien vs. Predator universe. His story belonged to the same non-canon crossover line as Predator versus Wolverine, Predator versus Black Panther, Predator versus Spider-Man, and Predator Kills the Marvel Universe. Within that continuity, however, he was one of the most important Yautja characters because he connected the Predator King, the Predator Prince, Wakanda's Vibranium, Kraven's alliance, and Wolverine's final revenge.
Conclusion
Graveyard Predator was the Predator King's eldest and favored son, a commander in the Yautja invasion of Earth, and one of the deadliest hunters in Marvel's Predator crossover storyline. His royal status, Vibranium weapons, and brutal attack on the Xavier Institute made the invasion close to succeeding. Yet his fixation on Wolverine's adamantium skull led to his death. After Graveyard destroyed Logan's home and killed his found family, Wolverine turned the hunter's obsession back against him and ended the bloodline of the Predator King's favored heir.
