Skinner Predator: The Mad Yautja Who Hunted Spider-Man

Skinner was a dishonorable Yautja and the main Predator antagonist of Predator versus Spider-Man. Unlike most Predators, Skinner had no clan, no code, and no respect for the Yautja Honor Code. He slaughtered humans and animals without restraint, stripped bodies for trophies, and used human skin as masks while hunting beneath New York City. His crimes drew the attention of Spider-Man, Kraven the Hunter, Detective LaPearl, J. Jonah Jameson, and a Yautja hunting party sent to kill "the one who hunts without honor."

A Predator With No Honor

Skinner hunted without honor during a heat wave in New York City.

Skinner belonged to the Yautja species, but he acted as a Bad Blood Predator. He had no known clan and violated the rules that governed honorable hunts. Instead of seeking worthy prey, he killed almost anything he encountered and harvested body parts as trophies. His actions disgraced his species badly enough that other Yautja came to Earth to kill him. This made Skinner both Spider-Man's enemy and a target of his own kind.

Skinner's Hunt In New York City

Skinner's killings led Spider-Man to investigate a string of murders.

Skinner struck New York City during a brutal heat wave and blackout. Spider-Man found victims hanging upside down, stripped of flesh, and missing body parts. Peter Parker tried to warn the city through the Daily Bugle, while J. Jonah Jameson treated the killings as the work of a mysterious murderer called "the Skinner." Detective LaPearl also investigated the killings and suspected Peter because he kept appearing near the crime scenes. As the blackout spread, Skinner continued moving through warehouses, subways, and sewers, turning the city into his hunting ground.

Skinner's Lair And Mary Jane Watson

Skinner used the underground tunnels beneath New York City as his lair.

Mary Jane Watson became trapped on a stalled subway train while Skinner hunted beneath the city. After escaping into the tunnels with another survivor, she was guided by a homeless man into Skinner's underground lair. The lair contained the remains of his victims, showing how long and how brutally he had been hunting. Skinner nearly found Mary Jane, but the homeless man saved her by pushing her and the other survivor into a swarm of rats. The rats hid their heat signatures from Skinner, allowing the women to survive while Skinner killed the man who helped them.

The Yautja Hunting Party

Other Predators came to New York to kill Skinner.

Peter's research revealed that killings like Skinner's had happened around the world for centuries and were often connected to extreme heat. When Peter uploaded images of the victims, the visual evidence triggered an algorithm waiting for signs of Predator activity. This alerted a Yautja hunting party, who arrived on Earth to eliminate Skinner for hunting without honor. Their arrival turned the story into a three-way hunt, with Spider-Man trying to save civilians, Kraven trying to claim the ultimate hunter, and the Predators trying to punish one of their own.

Skinner Versus Kraven The Hunter

Kraven hunted Skinner to prove himself against the ultimate prey.

Kraven the Hunter entered the conflict because he saw Skinner as the ultimate quarry. He studied the crime scenes, tracked Skinner's movements, and realized the Predator was using the underground parts of the city. Kraven also destroyed a generator to keep New York in darkness, hoping to keep the hunt under his control. Skinner eventually tried to steal the Yautja hunting party's ship and escape Earth, but Kraven ambushed him before he could leave. Their battle ended with Kraven killing Skinner and holding the Predator's severed head as a trophy.

Skinner's Death And The Self-Destruct Bomb

Kraven killed Skinner, but Skinner's wrist gauntlet threatened New York City.

Skinner's death did not immediately end the danger. His wrist gauntlet activated a self-destruct countdown that threatened to destroy a large part of New York City. Kraven severed Skinner's arm and allowed Spider-Man to take the device. Spider-Man wrapped the bomb in webbing and raced through the city before dropping it into a nearby river. The device detonated underwater, saving New York from the blast. Afterward, the surviving Yautja recognized Kraven's skill and spared him, allowing him to join their ranks.

Aftermath

Although Skinner was killed in New York City, the consequences of his hunt extended far beyond his death. The Yautja hunting party that arrived to eliminate the dishonorable Predator witnessed Kraven the Hunter defeat Skinner in single combat and survive encounters with multiple Predators. Impressed by his skill, determination, and respect for the hunt, the Yautja spared Kraven's life and accepted him into their ranks. Kraven spent more than a year among the Predators, learning their customs, weapons, and methods of warfare. During this time, he earned the trust of the Predator King and his eldest son, Graveyard. In return, Kraven taught the Yautja about Earth's greatest heroes, including their strengths, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities. This alliance eventually laid the foundation for the Predator King's invasion of Earth in Predator Kills the Marvel Universe. The invasion ultimately failed, but about half of Earth's mightiest heroes were killed, including most of the X-Men.

Weapons And Equipment

Skinner used standard Predator equipment while hunting in New York.

Skinner used several pieces of Predator equipment, including a bio-helmet, wristblade, wrist gauntlet, and broad knife. He also used vocal mimicry, a common Yautja ability that allowed him to copy human voices and confuse his prey. Skinner's most disturbing tactic was his use of human skin as masks. Combined with his stealth, heat vision, and ability to move through the city's dark underground tunnels, this made him extremely dangerous to civilians. However, his lack of honor also made him a target for other Predators.

Is Skinner Predator Canon?

Skinner appeared in Marvel's non-canon Predator crossover continuity.

Skinner was part of Marvel's licensed Predator crossover continuity and should not be treated as canon to the main Alien, Predator, or Alien vs. Predator universe. His story belonged to the same crossover line as Predator versus Wolverine, Predator versus Black Panther, and Predator Kills the Marvel Universe. Within that continuity, Skinner was important because his death led to Kraven being accepted by the Yautja. Kraven's alliance with the Predators then helped set up the larger Predator invasion of Earth.

The Bad Blood Predator from Predator: Bad Blood

Skinner was one of several Bad Blood Predators in the franchise, but the closest comparison is the unnamed Bad Blood from the classic Predator: Bad Blood comic series. Like Skinner, that Predator abandoned the Yautja Honor Code, murdered indiscriminately, and became a target for an Enforcer Predator sent to restore honor through execution. Other examples include the rogue Young Bloods from Predator: Homeworld and Tichinde from the original Aliens vs. Predator novel, both of whom turned against their fellow Yautja and innocent prey. However, Skinner stood out even among these outcasts because of the disturbing way he treated his victims. Rather than simply hunting without honor, he skinned his prey, displayed their remains as trophies, and even wore human skin as disguises while stalking New York City. These actions made him one of the most depraved and unsettling Bad Blood Predators ever depicted in the lore.

Conclusion

Skinner Predator was one of the most savage Bad Blood Yautja in Predator crossover lore. He had no clan, no honor, and no restraint, turning New York City into a hunting ground during a heat wave and blackout. His crimes forced Spider-Man, Kraven, and other Predators into the same conflict. Although Kraven killed Skinner, Spider-Man prevented Skinner's final self-destruct blast from devastating the city. Skinner's death also changed Kraven's future, as the Yautja spared him, accepted him, and brought him into the events that led to Predator Kills the Marvel Universe.
