Tyler Harrison was a colonist from Jackson's Star, the older brother of Kay Harrison, played by Archie Renaux in Alien: Romulus. He had been in a relationship with Rain Carradine before they parted, and he shared a household on the ringed world LV-410 with Kay and their cousin Bjorn. In 2142 he organized a salvage run to Renaissance Station aboard the Corbelan IV to steal cryopods for Yvaga III. He needed Rain's adoptive brother Andy to speak to a company computer. After the outbreak he showed Rain how to handle an F44AA Pulse Rifle, then died covering Kay and Rain inside the hive.
Biography
Early Life On Jackson's Star
Tyler grew up on Jackson's Star, a mining colony on LV-410 that lived under Weyland-Yutani and almost never saw the sun. He was the older brother of Kay Harrison and a cousin to Bjorn. The siblings did not want to end up like their parents under company mines that filled the air with new diseases each cycle. When Rain came to their trailer in 2142, Kay greeted her with a hug and said she knew her brother had missed her too. Tyler had been calling Rain all day about something she needed to hear, and he asked her to bring Andy.
Life on the dark face of the ringed world left little hope of travel permits. Tyler stayed close to Kay and to Rain, who had grown up under the same company. Their cousin Bjorn lived with them as part of the same household, along with Navarro, whom Bjorn treated as a sister. Tyler had ended his relationship with Rain sometime before that meeting, yet he still wanted her in the plan that might get them off the colony. He did not want waiting for the company to become the rest of their lives.
Plan To Leave Jackson's Star
Navarro tracked a company beacon above the colony while they were loading a Tesotek hauler about two hundred miles up. Tyler, Kay, Bjorn, and Navarro asked Rain to bring Andy, because the damaged synthetic could speak Mother and get them in and out of a decommissioned Weyland-Yutani hull. They wanted cryopods so the Corbelan IV could make the nine-year trip to Yvaga III. Rain feared that breaking into company property would ruin any chance of a legal permit. Bjorn told her to stay behind and hand Andy over, and Tyler shut him down.
Tyler later drew Rain aside outside the trailer. He knew his cousin could be cruel, but he argued that the company would never give them what they needed. He did not want to end up like their parents, and he did not believe she did either. He promised she would not even have to leave the Corbelan. Rain agreed to go. The group lifted off in the mining hauler, and from orbit they looked out at their sun while Kay thought of the sunsets people described on Yvaga III.
The Flight Aboard The Corbelan
Once the hauler cleared Jackson's Star they could see their sun, a sight the dark mining face had denied them. Kay spoke of the sunsets on Yvaga III, sights she had only seen in her dreams, and she wanted to see that light with the others when they woke. The derelict resolved into a decommissioned outpost that had drifted into their orbit, far larger than a ship. Navarro warned that the ring belt was closer than she had thought, and that the station had about thirty-six hours before it crashed into the rings. Tyler told the others they should be in and out in thirty minutes.
Andy confirmed he had one directive, written by Rain's father: to do what was best for Rain. He was happy to help. As they docked at a synth hatch, Bjorn needled Andy and started touching controls. Tyler told him to leave Andy alone and handed out gloves against the cold. The air inside was too thin to breathe until Andy brought the systems back. Tyler sent him through first, then praised the work when the hatch opened. Rain, Kay, and Navarro stayed on the hauler while Tyler, Bjorn, and Andy went after the pods.
Searching Renaissance Station
A temperature scanner led them toward the cryopods. After Andy restored gravity they found chambers loaded for only three years of stasis, far short of the nine-year crossing to Yvaga III. Bjorn wanted to quit. Tyler would not give up. His scanner found a strong reading that pointed to a nearby cryo depot, and he ejected an emergency evacuation vehicle for the others to recover while he, Bjorn, and Andy went for fuel. On the way he called a range in military style, and Bjorn mocked all that military talk. Tyler said it was effective, and also cool.
Rain asked why Bjorn treated Andy so harshly. Tyler told her that a synthetic had sealed a mine during a gas leak the previous cycle, leaving Bjorn's mother inside to save a larger group. Before they reached the fuel, Bjorn found a shock device and talked about frying a synthetic, and Tyler made him stop. Tyler later told Andy that taking him to Yvaga could put Rain in prison, and that the company would decommission him if he remained on Jackson's Star. Andy accepted it if it was best for Rain. Tyler told him he was a good guy, and that they would all miss him.
The Lockdown And Andy's Chip
They found cooling gear that used the same fuel as the pods, more than enough for the crossing. When Tyler and Bjorn pulled a tank free, the cold burned Bjorn's hands and an emergency lockdown sealed the room. Facehuggers thawed in the water around them. Andy lacked the clearance to open the door. Rain and Navarro left the hauler to free them. Rain found a wrecked science officer later identified as Rook, pulled a module from its head, and passed the chip through a gap so Tyler could seat it in Andy.
Tyler fitted the module and asked Rain if he had done something wrong when Andy froze. Rain said he was rebooting. The chip gave Andy access to the station and also changed his prime directive toward company work. Facehuggers then came out of the water. One seized Navarro while they opened the room, and Tyler had to drag people out as Bjorn fought the creatures instead of helping. Andy, now speaking with a colder clarity, told them the creature was not killing Navarro. It was keeping her alive.
Facehugger Attack And Escape Attempt
Bjorn wanted to burn the creature off with the shock device. Andy warned that much current would snap Navarro's neck. Rain asked if Andy knew how to help her, and he admitted he still did not know what the animal was. They woke Rook, who told them not to help Navarro and to run, or else to kill her before a seed inside her grew into a Xenomorph. Tyler refused to leave her. Rain suggested freezing the root of the tail with cryo fuel so they could pull the creature from her face.
The plan worked. They unwound the tail and pulled the Facehugger off, and Tyler tried to tell Navarro she was all right. Rook warned that the creature might already have finished its work. Andy then tried to keep Navarro off the Corbelan. Bjorn saw that as betrayal, forced Navarro and Kay back onto the hauler, and left Rain, Andy, and Tyler on the station. Tyler shouted that they were not leaving without them. On the ship a Chestburster killed Navarro, the hauler slammed into the Romulus hangar, and the impact pushed the station toward the rings.
Kay's Capture
After the crash Tyler called for Kay and Bjorn over the comm. Kay had woken to shed skin and a cocoon, then fled the adult Xenomorph that had come from Navarro. Tyler told her how to open a door with a key beside a red lever. Rain, Tyler, and Andy then crossed toward the Romulus hangar with little time before the rings tore the station apart. They lowered the temperature in a room thick with Facehuggers and tried to pass without waking them, but the creatures still came and drove them onward.
At the sealed door they found Kay on the other side, begging to be let in. Tyler pressed himself to the glass, told her to look at him, and promised he would get her out. Andy would not open the door. His new company directive told him a Xenomorph was waiting for that gap. Rain, trying to force his hand, let slip that Kay was pregnant, news Tyler had not been told. Tyler begged Andy to open it and told him he was one of them. The creature drove its tail through Kay's shoulder and dragged her into the hive.
The F44AA Pulse Rifle
Andy led them into a laboratory to collect vials of the Z-01 compound that Rook wanted returned to Jackson's Star. A Xenomorph was already hunting them outside. Andy asked if Rain could manage a gun, then armed her and Tyler with F44AA Pulse Rifles from station stores. Tyler showed Rain the rotating breech and electronic pulse action, and he told her it was what the Colonial Marines used. AA stood for aiming assist. He had her tuck the stock under her arm, set her hands, and aim toward Andy with the safety on so she could feel the system lock on.
Rain asked where he had learned all of it. Tyler said games and magazines. He was not a Colonial Marine. Each rifle held one magazine of about 450 rounds, and Andy told them they must not fire a single shot. They were on the bottom floor of the station, with the vacuum of space under the deck, and acid blood would open that deck to space. The hope was that the creatures would treat the guns as a threat and not charge them head on. Andy then took them toward a conveyor that led to a lift.
Rescue And Death In The Hive
The lift corridor had already been turned into a hive. Tyler heard Kay crying and followed her voice to a cocoon. The three of them cut her free. She was badly hurt and had not been implanted, because no dead Facehugger lay at her feet. Andy wanted to give her Z-01 because the compound had restored a crushed test rat, and he said a quarter of the human genome is shared with rats. Tyler reached for a vial. Rain stopped him and wanted Kay placed in a cryopod and treated back at Jackson's Star. Andy thought she would live if they hurried.
Adult Xenomorphs closed in before they could move her far. One wrecked Andy and left him on the resin. Tyler stayed in the corridor with his pulse rifle so Rain could drag Kay to an elevator. A creature caught him there. With the deck still vulnerable to acid blood he could not empty the magazine into the hive. He faced the Xenomorphs and shouted, asking if that was all they had. One of them killed him with its inner jaw. Rain got Kay into the shaft, and Tyler did not leave Renaissance alive.
Personality And Traits
Tyler was the one who put the salvage together and kept the others moving when the pods came up short. He protected Andy from Bjorn more than once, even while he was willing to leave the synthetic behind at Yvaga for Rain's sake. He still cared for Rain after their relationship ended, and he cared for Kay enough to shout himself hoarse at a sealed door. When Andy refused to open it, Tyler begged rather than keep the pose of a leader. He used military talk and weapon drill he had picked up from games and magazines, not from any colonial enlistment.
That mix of care and improvisation carried him into the hive and also marked the limit of what he could do there. He held the corridor so Rain could get Kay to the elevator, and he died doing the work he had started in the trailer: getting his sister toward Yvaga III. Games and magazines had taught him the F44AA well enough to walk Rain through it, yet they could not change the acid in the deck beneath his feet or stop the inner jaw that killed him.
Behind The Scenes
Archie Renaux played Tyler in Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez and written with Rodo Sayagues. The film opened on 16 August 2024 and is set in 2142, between Alien and Aliens. Renaux also auditioned for Andy before he was cast as Tyler. In interviews he described Tyler as the captain of the group, a young colonist trying to find a better life on a world with new diseases and little daylight. He noted that earlier films often followed Colonial Marines or trained crews, while this group had no combat experience.
The production used practical Xenomorph suits and animatronics, so the creatures stood on set with the cast. Filming took place on a dark soundstage in Budapest, and Álvarez sometimes played Xenomorph sounds and docking noise through speakers to keep the actors inside the scene. Cailee Spaeny played Rain, David Jonsson played Andy, Isabela Merced played Kay, Spike Fearn played Bjorn, and Aileen Wu played Navarro. Renaux prepared by watching the earlier Alien films and rehearsed wire work for weightless passages on the station. Tyler's death in the hive closed his part of the story before the Offspring was born aboard the Corbelan IV.

Conclusion
Tyler Harrison was a Jackson's Star colonist who tried to steal a future the company would not grant. He brought Rain and Andy into a salvage that woke Renaissance Station, protected his friends as long as he could, and taught Rain a pulse rifle he knew only from games and magazines. He died in the hive covering Kay and Rain after begging Andy to save his sister at the hangar door. Rain and Andy later reached the Corbelan and set course for Yvaga without him.
