Kay Harrison was a colonist from Jackson's Star, the younger sister of Tyler Harrison, played by Isabela Merced in Alien: Romulus. She lived under Weyland-Yutani on the ringed world LV-410 with her brother and their cousin Bjorn. In 2142 she joined a salvage run to Renaissance Station aboard the Corbelan IV, hoping stolen cryopods would carry them toward sunlight and a better world. She hid a pregnancy from her brother during that flight. After a Xenomorph wounded her she injected the Z-01 compound to close the injury, gave birth to the Offspring, and was killed when that hybrid drained her.
Biography
Early Life On Jackson's Star
Kay grew up on Jackson's Star, a mining colony on LV-410. She was the younger sister of Tyler Harrison and a cousin to Bjorn. The siblings did not want to end up like their parents under company mines that filled the air with new diseases each cycle. When Rain Carradine came to their trailer in 2142, Kay greeted her with a hug. She had missed Rain, and she knew her brother had missed her too. She offered Rain sympathy over the death of Rain's father, a loss that matched the hailstorms and sickness that marked life on the colony.
Life on the dark face of the ringed world left little hope of travel permits. Kay stayed close to Tyler and to Rain, who had grown up under the same company. Their cousin Bjorn lived with them as part of the same household, along with Navarro, whom Bjorn treated as a sister. The young colonists waited for a future the company would not grant. Kay did not want that waiting to become the rest of her life.
The Renaissance Plan
Navarro tracked a derelict company beacon above the colony. Tyler, Kay, Bjorn, and Navarro asked Rain to bring Andy, because the damaged synthetic could speak to a company computer. They wanted cryopods from the abandoned hull so the Corbelan IV could make the nine-year trip to Yvaga III. Rain feared that breaking into company property would ruin any chance of a legal permit. Bjorn pressed her to hand Andy over and stay behind, and Tyler had to shut him down.
Tyler later drew Rain aside. He knew his cousin could be cruel, but he argued that the company would never give them what they needed. He did not want their lives to end the way their parents' lives had ended. Rain agreed to go. The group left Jackson's Star in the mining hauler, and from orbit Kay looked out at their sun. She thought of the sunsets people described on Yvaga III, and she wanted to see that light with the others when they woke.
The Hidden Pregnancy
After they docked, Rain, Kay, and Navarro stayed on the hauler while Tyler, Bjorn, and Andy went after the pods. Kay grew sick in a bunk. Rain found her and learned she was not ill. Kay was pregnant. She would not name the father except to call him an asshole, and she asked Rain not to tell Tyler, who had enough to worry about. She was glad the child would get to see the sun.
The station's greeting named the outpost Renaissance, split into the Romulus and Remus modules. The cryopods they had found did not hold enough fuel for Yvaga, so the others went deeper for a depot. Facehuggers thawed in a cold room and a lockdown trapped Tyler, Bjorn, and Andy. Rain and Navarro left the hauler to free them. Kay remained behind on the Corbelan IV and followed their progress from the ship while the others searched the darkened modules.
Navarro's Death And The Crash
A Facehugger seized Navarro while they opened the locked room. Andy tried to keep her off the ship. Bjorn forced Navarro and Kay back onto the hauler and left Rain, Andy, and Tyler on the station. On the Corbelan, Navarro collapsed in Kay's arms. Kay tried to help her and did not know what to do as a Chestburster tore its way out. The birth killed Navarro and covered Kay in blood.
In the struggle Navarro kicked a control, and the hauler undocked and slammed into the Romulus hangar. The impact knocked Kay unconscious and pushed the station toward the planet's rings, shortening the time before it would break apart. When she woke she found shed skin and a cocoon on a nearby wall. Bjorn found her there and they reached for each other, then he attacked the creature inside the cocoon. Acid blood from the Xenomorph that had come from Navarro destroyed him.
Capture In The Hive
Kay called Tyler for help as the adult Xenomorph left its cocoon. He told her how to open a door with a key beside a red lever. She found the key, fled, and fell from a platform that knocked her out again. When she woke, the creature was dragging the bodies of Navarro and Bjorn into the vents. She ran to a door where Rain, Tyler, and Andy could see her, and she begged them to let her in.
Andy would not open the door. His new company directive told him the creature was waiting for that gap. Rain, trying to force his hand, let slip that Kay was pregnant. Tyler shouted for the door as the Xenomorph closed in. It drove its tail through Kay's shoulder and dragged her into the hive. From Kay's side of the glass the last thing she could do was call for help that did not come.
Rescue And The Z-01 Compound
Tyler heard Kay crying in a resin-coated corridor, and the three of them cut her free from a cocoon. She had lost a great deal of blood and had not been implanted, because no dead Facehugger lay at her feet. Andy suggested the Z-01 compound, which had restored a crushed test rat. Tyler reached for a vial. Rain stopped him and wanted Kay placed in a cryopod and treated back at Jackson's Star.
Adult Xenomorphs attacked before they could move her far. Tyler held them off so Rain could get Kay to an elevator, and the creatures killed him there. Rain pressed the remaining vial into Kay's hands, told her the shaft led to their ship, and sent her toward a cryopod whose autopilot would return her to the colony. After Rain went back for Andy, Kay injected the compound herself. The wounds closed. On the Corbelan, Rook appeared on her console and told her to hand him the ship, claiming her friends had died so she could live. She did not give him control.
The Offspring And Kay's Death
Rain reached the hauler before the station struck the rings. She found Kay alive and put her into a cryopod, telling her that she and the baby would be fine. They cut Rook out of the ship's systems and set a course for Yvaga. A medical alarm followed. Kay's belly had swollen far beyond a human pregnancy, and she delivered a large cocoon. She begged Rain to get it away from her.
The cocoon burned through the deck into the cargo hold and opened. The Offspring, a human-Xenomorph hybrid that also carried Engineer traits, had grown from the mutated fetus and the Z-01 dose. It matured within moments. Kay left the cryopod. A mix of milk and black fluid rose from her chest. The hybrid injured Andy when he tried to stop it, then used a proboscis to drain Kay of that fluid. The feeding killed her and made the creature larger. Rain later ejected the cargo hold and the hybrid into space, and she and Andy continued toward Yvaga without her.
Personality And Traits
Kay was the youngest of the scavenger group and the one most willing to show warmth. She hugged Rain on sight, stayed close to Tyler, and hid the pregnancy so her brother would not carry another fear. She wanted the child to see sunlight that Jackson's Star did not offer. When Navarro was dying she held her and tried to help, even though she had no treatment to give. That tenderness set her apart from Bjorn's anger and from the harder choices Rain had to make.
She would not hand the Corbelan to Rook after her friends had risked themselves for her. The same hope that made her inject Z-01, so she might live for the baby, was what mutated the child she wanted to save. She remained loyal to Rain and Tyler until the end. Their effort to pull her from the hive did not keep her alive once the compound had changed what she carried.
Behind The Scenes
Isabela Merced played Kay in Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez and written with Rodo Sayagues. The film opened on 16 August 2024 and is set in 2142, between Alien and Aliens. Merced described Kay as the youngest and most open member of the group, and she drew on the spirit of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, treating the part as inspired by "Ripley's daughter" rather than by any blood tie. The production used practical Xenomorph suits and animatronics, so the creatures stood on set with her.
Álvarez was playing The Last of Us Part II while he wrote the film, and the pregnant character Dina made him decide that Kay should be pregnant as well. He then cast Merced as Kay. A year later she was cast as Dina in the HBO series. The film never names the father of Kay's child on screen. Álvarez later confirmed that Bjorn, her cousin, was the father, after viewers noted a close moment between the two before Bjorn's death. Archie Renaux played Tyler, Spike Fearn played Bjorn, and Aileen Wu played Navarro.

Conclusion
Kay Harrison was a Jackson's Star colonist who hid a pregnancy so her brother could keep his mind on their escape. She survived Navarro's death, Bjorn's death, and capture in the hive, then injected Z-01 when Rain left her with the vial. That choice closed her wounds and mutated the child she hoped would see the sun. The Offspring killed her aboard the Corbelan IV. Rain and Andy flew on toward Yvaga without her.
