Yvaga III, designated Y-13, was a fully terraformed world in the Yvaga System, outside Weyland-Yutani control. In 2142, Rain Carradine asked the company office at Jackson's Star for travel papers there, after she finished the hours on her farming contract, and the crossing from LV-410 took nine years in cryosleep. She and Andy left on the damaged Corbelan IV at the end of Alien: Romulus, and her cryo log recorded that she did not know if they would arrive.
The World
The Corbelan IV autopilot listed the destination as Y-13, Yvaga III, in the Yvaga System, at right ascension 10h 14m 29.1s. At the Jackson's Star office the system was an independent, fully terraformed world where a person on the ground could see the sun. Bjorn treated Yvaga as the nearest system to the colony, and Andy wanted a horse he meant to name Raindy when they arrived. Kay Harrison expected incredible sunsets, and Rain's dream showed grass, mountains, and a low sun.
The Crossing
Tyler Harrison, Kay, Bjorn, and Navarro planned to take hypersleep chambers from the derelict Renaissance because the company would not issue travel permits. The hauler had the power for the crossing, and nobody could stay awake for nine years. The chambers they found were fueled for three years, so they pulled more cryo fuel from a depot on the station. After Renaissance broke up in the rings of LV-410, Rain seated the damaged Andy in a cryopod, set that autopilot, and entered stasis beside him. Her cryo log named her the last survivor of the Corbelan and gave the course as the Yvaga system.
No Synthetics
Yvaga barred synthetics because the system stood outside Weyland-Yutani, and a synthetic was a company machine rather than a resident. Bjorn's name for that bar was a ban on fake people, and Andy preferred artificial person. Landing with one could send the person who brought it to prison. On the crossing Andy was to stay running only long enough to guard the cryopods, then be shut down on arrival, the same shutdown the company would have given him on Jackson's Star if he stayed. Rain knew the rule before the Corbelan left and took him into stasis anyway, intending to repair him at the other end, which left the ban and the prison risk in place.
Rain's Dream
The only view of the ground in the finished film is Rain's dream, in which she sat in grass and watched a low sun drop behind a mountain ridge. Kay Harrison expected incredible sunsets, and this frame is the picture Rain had of them. Andy wanted to see that sunset with her when the crossing was over. The film leaves both of them in cryosleep on the Corbelan, and it never shows them on that hillside.
Behind The Scenes
The autopilot graphic for the Yvaga crossing, the frame that lists Y-13 and Yvaga III, was played on old computer screens and filmed from them. Cailee Spaeny was filmed last, outside Origo Studios in Budapest, for an arrival written in the early drafts. Those drafts include one titled Alien: Renaissance and a blue revision dated 18 October 2022, and both ended with Rain and Andy on the ground, but the finished film used her footage as the dream. Fede Álvarez later treated the world as one the colonists took for a refuge, and he expected an Alien: Romulus sequel to find it was not.
Industrial Light & Magic art director Igor Staritsin began the landscape as concept art, then painted the shot as a matte 16,000 pixels wide. He built it from photographs he had taken while traveling, including a version with no sun and a version with no clouds in the valley. He also animated the sun and the clouds so the shot could move them across the sky. Visual effects supervisor Nelson Sepulveda-Fauser oversaw the shot, and Fred Palacio painted over the image before it was finished.
Conclusion
Yvaga III, designated Y-13, was the independent world in the Yvaga System that Rain Carradine tried to reach from Jackson's Star in 2142. Her account called it fully terraformed, with sunlight on the ground, and the Corbelan IV left LV-410 on a nine-year course after Renaissance broke up in the rings.
