Claw was a male Yautja from the Young Blood pack of five hunters that travelled to BG-386 for their first hunt in Aliens vs. Predator (2010). He killed at least one Colonial Marine during the Xenomorph outbreak on the planet and so became Blooded, but he died in the jungle soon after. The Elite hunter Dark later found his body, paid his respects, and destroyed it with Claw's own self-destruct device.

The Young Blood Pack

Claw was one of five inexperienced hunters who came to BG-386 together to prove themselves. The planet held an ancient Yautja pyramid, and the pack meant to hunt Xenomorphs there as their initiation, the first step toward the Blooded rank. Each of the five hoped that success on the planet would earn him a place in the Elite clan, the same order of Elite Predators that Dark belonged to.

The trip was a test of the blooding ritual: a Young Blood had to make a worthy kill before he could rise to Blooded. Claw was the only member of the pack known by a name, and most of the others wore the same armor and mask as he did. Only one of the five, the hunter who later stalked the Marines through the ruins, wore a different design that matched Dark's.

The Outbreak

The hunt changed when Weyland-Yutani scientists led by Karl Bishop Weyland opened the pyramid on the planet. The opening released an EMP blast that freed the live Xenomorph specimens held in the nearby research facility. The creatures and their Queen built a hive in the refinery at Freya's Prospect and turned colonists and scientists into hosts for a large force of Warriors.

The pack found itself in the middle of an infestation far larger than any initiation hunt was meant to be. Colonial Marines from the USS Marlow landed to contain the outbreak, so the Young Bloods now faced both Xenomorphs and armed humans. The members of the pack appear as enemies in both the Alien and Marine campaigns of the game. None of the five would leave the planet alive.

Blooded

Claw was one of at least two members of the pack who made a kill after the outbreak began, and in both cases the prey was a Colonial Marine. That kill was enough to raise him from Young Blood to Blooded, the rank the pack had come to the planet to earn. His success is shown in the story trailer for the game rather than in the campaign itself.

A skinned Marine was later found hanging near the place where Claw fell, which suggests the man was one of his kills. The second Young Blood known to have made a kill also took a Colonial Marine, so at least two of the five died as Blooded hunters. Neither of them lived long enough to return to the clan with a trophy.

Death In The Jungle

Claw died in the jungles of the planet, most likely at the hands of one or more Xenomorphs. Two other members of the pack died in the combat arena against Specimen 6 and its Warriors, and the last survivor stalked the Marines through the ruins until Rookie killed him in single combat. Another Young Blood died in the jungle as well, and the Marines took his body to a small field lab for study.

Three Elites were sent to BG-386 to learn what had happened to the pack: Dark, Wolf, and a third hunter who was later killed in the hive while trying to slay the Matriarch. In the jungle, Dark came upon Claw's body and stopped to pay his respects to the fallen hunter. He then activated Claw's self-destruct device so that the humans could not recover his technology.

Weapons And Equipment

Claw carried the standard kit of a hunter on his first hunt, with wristblades for close combat and a shoulder-mounted plasmacaster for ranged kills. He used a cloaking device to stay hidden while he tracked prey through the jungle. His mask carried blood streaks on the front, the mark that set him apart from the other hunters on the planet.

His wrist gauntlet held the self-destruct device, built to keep Yautja technology out of enemy hands. His bio-helmet followed the design of the Jungle Hunter, the same base as Dark's, but with four vertical red stripes on the front. Claw never had the chance to use the device himself, and Dark triggered it for him. The same mask and armor are also available as a multiplayer skin, unlocked at Rank 3.

Similar Predators

Chopper was another Young Blood whose first hunt ended in quick death, killed by the Grid Xenomorph in Antarctica before he could earn his mark. Pig Iron also died young, slain by a Xenomorph he had kept chained aboard his father's ship. Chopper was impaled by the tail of Grid, which also killed his brother Celtic, while Pig Iron was the son of Hook and brother of Splitter. Unlike either of them, Claw earned the Blooded rank before he died.

Dark, the Elite who found his body, is the only Predator from BG-386 to leave the planet alive. Wolf, another of the Elites sent to find the pack, was defeated by Specimen 6 in the arena, and his body became the host of the Abomination. Dark defeated the Abomination himself before he escaped the planet. The mission that began with Claw's pack ended with nearly every Yautja on the planet dead.

Conclusion

Claw came to BG-386 as a Young Blood hoping to earn a place among the Elite, and he did win the Blooded rank by killing a Colonial Marine. The outbreak that Weyland-Yutani unleashed killed him in the jungle along with the rest of his pack. Dark found his body, honored him, and destroyed it with his own self-destruct device. His mask and armor live on as a multiplayer skin and as the look of most of the pack in the campaign.
