Yutani Family Tree: Every Known Relative Explained

The Yutani family are the powerful co-owners of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation together with the Weyland family. Although less documented than the Weyland lineage, several members of the Yutani family of Japanese origins appeared across films, comics, games, and expanded universe material. These individuals were typically connected to corporate leadership, scientific research, or high-level decision making within Weyland-Yutani. In this article, we examine the Yutani family tree and list every known member of the family, including Cullen Yutani, Hideo Yutani, and other confirmed relatives.

Miss Yutani (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem)

Miss Yutani from Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Miss Yutani appeared in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem as a high-ranking corporate executive. She was contacted by Colonel Stevens following the Xenomorph outbreak in Gunnison, Colorado. Miss Yutani was provided Wolf Predator's plasma pistol, presumably helping the company to kick-start their technological advancements. The character also appeared in a deleted scene of The Predator, played by the same actress, Françoise Yip. This time, she was given a first name, Cullen. Some sources identify Cullen Yutani appearing in later stories, but this is unlikely due to the timeline spanning more than two centuries.

Hideo Yutani (Alien: Covenant Origins)

Hideo Yutani appeared in the Alien: Covenant Origins prequel book as a member of the Yutani family involved in corporate leadership. He was shown participating in the merger discussions between Weyland Corporation and Yutani Corporation. These negotiations ultimately led to the creation of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the year 2099 in the Alien timeline. Hideo represented the Yutani family's corporate authority during this period, while the Weyland Corporation had taken a financial beating after the Prometheus mission.

Jenny Yutani (Alien: Covenant Origins)

Jenny Yutani also appeared in Alien: Covenant Origins and was another member of the Yutani family involved in corporate leadership. She participated alongside Hideo Yutani during the merger negotiations with Weyland Corporation. Jenny Yutani supported the formation of the new unified company, which later became Weyland-Yutani. Jenny Yutani was kidnapped by the "Earthsaver" movement to stop the launch of the USCSS Covenant, which ultimately failed. She was rescued and the mission was launched successfully, although it lost one of its landers.

Yutani (Alien: Earth)

Lady Yutani from Alien: Earth

During the events of Alien: Earth in the year 2120, a corporate executive known simply as Yutani appeared as a senior representative of the company. The character was portrayed as a high-level decision maker within the corporation, but no full name or position has been given. Because of the shared surname and corporate position, this individual was likely a member of the Yutani family, though their exact relationship to other members remains unknown. Yutani negotiated with the CEO of the Prodigy Corporation Boy Cavalier after the events of the crash of the USCSS Maginot in Prodigy territory.

Start With Alien Comics

Naoko Yutani (Alien: Blackout)

Concept art for Naoko Yutani from Alien: Blackout

Naoko Yutani appeared in Alien: Blackout as a Weyland-Yutani employee stationed aboard Mendel Station, after the events of Alien: Isolation set in the year 2137. She served as a corporate representative responsible for overseeing operations involving Xenomorph research. During the station outbreak, Naoko coordinated survivors (including Amanda Ripley) remotely using the station's surveillance systems. She attempted to guide crew members to safety while avoiding the Xenomorph. Naoko Yutani survived the incident, making her one of the few known Yutani family members directly involved in a Xenomorph encounter.

Chiyo Yutani (Aliens: Bishop)

Chiyo Yutani was a descendant of Yutani Corporation founder Hideo Yutani. She was referenced in the Aliens: Bishop novel, where Michael Bishop stated that a katana displayed in his quarters had been gifted to him by Chiyo Yutani. The weapon was kept aboard the Chinese warship Xinjiang after the events of Alien 3 in the year 2179. Although she did not appear directly in the story, the reference confirmed that members of the Yutani family remained active in corporate circles well into the late 22nd century.

Another Miss Yutani (Aliens: Aftermath)

Miss Yutani from Aliens: Aftermath

A second Miss Yutani appeared in the comic Aliens: Aftermath, set 35 years after the events of Aliens, in about the year 2214. This Yutani operated as a senior Weyland-Yutani executive during the period following the destruction of Hadley's Hope on LV-426. Due to the large time gap between AvP Requiem and Aliens: Aftermath, this Miss Yutani cannot realistically be the same person. Instead, she was likely a later descendant of the Yutani family who inherited the name and corporate influence. This interpretation resolves the timeline conflict while keeping both appearances within the same family lineage.

Shin Yutani (Aliens: What If...?)

Shin Yutani from Aliens: What If?

Shin Yutani appeared in Aliens: What If...? as a senior member of the Yutani family and the father of Hiro Yutani. Aliens: What If took place in the same year as Aliens: Aftermath (2214), but it was set in a branching timeline where Carter Burke survived the events of Aliens. Shin held a powerful leadership position within Weyland-Yutani and was directly involved in corporate decisions surrounding Xenomorph research and recovery. Shin treated Hiro as a disposable asset rather than a successor, indicating that his unnamed daughter was intended to inherit control of the corporation. Carter Burke reported directly to Shin Yutani during and after the events of Aliens.

Hiro Yutani (Aliens: What If?)

Hiro Yutani from Aliens: What If?

Hiro Yutani appeared in Aliens: What If...? as a member of the Yutani family and a Weyland-Yutani corporate operative. He was identified as the son of Shin Yutani, placing him directly within the main Yutani leadership lineage. Despite his family status, Hiro was treated as expendable and assigned field operations rather than being groomed for corporate leadership. Hiro also became romantically involved with Carter Burke's daughter, Brie Burke, which created additional tension between the families. During the story, Hiro attempted to secure control of a Xenomorph egg and used his corporate authority to pursue Weyland-Yutani objectives. At one point, Burke secretly placed a tracking device on Hiro's ship while he was unconscious, allowing Burke and his allies to follow him and confront both Hiro and Shin Yutani.

Conclusion

The Yutani family played a major role in shaping the history of Weyland-Yutani across multiple centuries. From the original Yutani Corporation (already present in the early 21st century) and its merger with Weyland to later incidents involving Xenomorph research, members of the family repeatedly appeared in positions of authority. Although the Yutani side of the dynasty was less thoroughly documented than the Weyland lineage, figures such as Hideo Yutani, Jenny Yutani, Naoko Yutani, Shin Yutani, and others showed that the family's reach extended across novels, games, comics, and screen productions.
