Ramón Vasquez: Jenette's Son & Weyland-Yutani CFO
Ramón Vasquez was the son of Colonial Marine Jenette Vasquez and the twin of Leticia Vasquez in V. Castro's 2022 novel Aliens: Vasquez. Roseanna Vasquez raised him on a Texas ranch after Jenette signed away parental rights during the 2171 training year. He became Weyland-Yutani's youngest chief financial officer, moved the company's Xenomorph program to the colony Olinka, and died there in 2201 when an adult Xenomorph speared him through the chest.
Biography
Early Life In Texas
Jenette's one night with recruit Lorenzo Sanchez left her pregnant with Ramón and Leticia. Sanchez was the father. Mark Drake, Jenette's partner from the prison gym and the Corps, was the man she trained and fought beside. If Jenette had stayed with the twins, the Corps contract would have ended, so she signed both children to Roseanna. Roseanna raised them on a ranch a few hours north of the Gulf of Mexico. Word of Jenette's death with Lieutenant Gorman on LV-426 in 2179 reached the ranch before the twins turned ten.
Just before their seventeenth birthdays, Ramón rejected Roseanna's Día de los Muertos altar and called Jenette's Marine life a stereotype. That night Roseanna gave Leticia their mother's letter years early. The letter told Leticia to look after him. While Leticia worked Robert Boone's horse ranch and then left for the Raider Regiment, Ramón won scholarships, tutored, and studied languages, and he went east to college.
Harvard
In 2190 Ramón was at Harvard, tall, and careful with his teeth after dental work Roseanna had paid for. During the same stretch of classes he was involved with banker Mary Anne Kramer and with Julia Yutani. Julia wanted no children and a life building worlds. Mary Anne wanted a quiet house. Recruiter Benjamin Ross brought Ramón onto a classified bioweapon project tied to Meredith Vickers's unnamed planet and showed him vault footage of the mutilated Queen La Reina laying an egg. Ramón asked for a whiteboard and a signing bonus. The bonus paid off Roseanna's mortgage that night.
The Company Plan
Ramón's plan stored eggs or infected hosts on worlds the company wanted, then used a bacteria as a kill switch and unmanned Grim Reaper ships to deliver them. Julia wrote the plan up. He married Mary Anne, and they had twins, Lara Jenette and Lorenzo. He named the boy after his father. In Manhattan he became Weyland-Yutani's youngest chief financial officer, and he treated Julia as the partner inside the firm. When she demanded a commitment, he asked her to take the children as a stepmother and to leave Mary Anne as his public wife. The laboratory work on Olinka stayed with Julia and with Dr. Brenda Moon.
The Olinka Contract
Ramón skipped Leticia's graduation from Raider training. He later offered her a security contract under CEO Jacob Vickers, Meredith Vickers's British great-grandson, who was building a quiet force for the colony Olinka. Jacob described a borderless geothermal settlement named from Gerardo Murillo's old utopian-city idea, and a later lottery for ordinary families from Earth. Jacob did not know about the Xenomorph program on that world. Leticia agreed only if her crew was paid. Frida, Mohammed Faez, Nathan Powell, and Desiree Benson accepted, and Ramón went with them. Cryo to Olinka lasted five years. Roseanna was almost sixty when they left.
Olinka One
The survey crew of fifteen came out of cryo in 2201 near Olinka's sulfur fields and pine forest. Jacob named Leticia director of security. Ramón set himself against a relationship between her and the CEO. She began the relationship anyway. He then told her that Julia was inside the pyramid, that Colonial Marines were two days out, and that the Xenomorph program had started before Jacob and had paid for the peace colony. Jacob meant to force Ramón out after the crisis.
The company files recorded Jenette's death as the neutralizing of a threat on LV-426. Ramón showed Leticia those files overnight. He had moved the creature program, including La Reina, onto Olinka One because of that death, on a world the company kept off the LV list. He wanted control of the creature that killed her. Julia had reached Olinka One ahead of the survey crew and was running the lab when they arrived.
The Pyramid
Las Lobas, Ramón, and Jacob flew to the resin-covered facility. They found Facehuggers in cylinders, Xenosites in water, and handheld vials of the black bacteria. One Queen lay dead with her hood blown from the inside by an electrical crown. Julia was in the wall beside Brenda Moon. A Chestburster came out of her, and Leticia shot Julia and killed the newborn. Ramón handed Jacob activated bacteria and a chip with the formulas, and he copied Julia's files onto Leticia's backups.
Death
In 2201 an adult Xenomorph rose from a flooded chamber in the pyramid and drove its tail through Ramón's chest. Desiree Benson shot through his forehead and hit the creature. Leticia cut him off the tail, dragged the body out, and cremated him. She poured some of the ash into the sea from a rum bottle, for the boat he had called Sail La Vie, and set the rest aside for letters to his children, Lara Jenette and Lorenzo.
Personality And Traits
Ramón Vasquez was smart and ambitious. He won scholarships, studied languages, and could turn a classified creature program into a company plan for storing hosts, killing them with bacteria, and moving them on unmanned ships. That work made him Weyland-Yutani's youngest chief financial officer. He wanted the Vasquez name to last, and he wanted a senior place on the Yutani side of the firm at the same time.
He was greedy with money and with the people close to him. He required a signing bonus that paid off Roseanna's mortgage the night he joined. Mary Anne Kramer remained his public wife and the mother of Lara Jenette and Lorenzo, and he treated Julia Yutani as the partner who mattered inside the company. When Julia asked for a commitment, he asked her to raise the children and to leave Mary Anne in place. He wanted the family, the marriage, and the Yutani connection together.
He was cold, and he was willing to be cruel for gain. It placed eggs or infected hosts on worlds Weyland-Yutani wanted, then counted on a bacteria to destroy the creatures after the company had taken what it needed. He wanted control of the creature that killed Jenette, and he was willing to put that program on a colony where other families were supposed to live. Julia Yutani and Dr. Brenda Moon did the laboratory work. Ramón's share was the financing and the choice to use human hosts.
Behind The Scenes
V. Castro introduced Ramón in Aliens: Vasquez. Titan Books published the novel on 25 October 2022 in the UK and on 8 November 2022 in the US. The 1986 film Aliens does not mention Ramón. Castro used him as the Company half of the book after Jenette's death, from Harvard through the 2201 outbreak on Olinka.
