Spartan was a Yautja Elder in Aliens vs. Predator, the 2010 video game developed by Rebellion and published by SEGA. He was the clan leader and the eldest member of the Elite Clan, one of the Predator clans of the game, and he often oversaw the training of young hunters. He watched over the trial in which the Predator later known as Dark joined the Elite rank. When a pack of Young Bloods went missing on BG-386, he sent Dark and two other Elites to the planet to find out what had happened to them.

Biography

Leading The Elite Clan

Spartan held the rank of Elder and served as the clan leader of the Elite Clan, of which he was also the eldest member. Because the clan was made up entirely of hunters of the Elite rank, he may have been an Elite himself in addition to his higher titles. He often oversaw the training of Young Bloods within the clan and judged which of them were ready to advance. He stood 7 feet 4 inches tall and wore his black dreadlocks with yellow rings.

Testing A Young Blood

During the 2200s, Spartan and several Elite brothers gathered on an unknown planet, possibly Yautja Prime, to test a Young Blood who had chosen to face the trials for the Elite rank. The Young Blood leapt into an arena, and the three Trial Overseers uncloaked above him. Spartan told him to prepare himself and to first acknowledge his elders, and the Young Blood looked to Wolf, then to Hunter and finally to Spartan himself. Spartan then cloaked and released a pack of Xenomorphs, which the Young Blood defeated before the Elder congratulated him.

As the next step of the trial, Spartan handed the Young Blood a plasmacaster, one of the most powerful weapons in the Yautja arsenal. Once the hunter had mastered it, the Elder released another horde of Xenomorphs, and the Young Blood killed every attacker and took a trophy from the last one. Spartan told him that it was the first of many trophies he would take as an Elite, welcomed him to the clan and announced the promotion to all members present. The new Elite became known as Dark, the protagonist of the Predator campaign.

Sending Hunters To BG-386

Right after the ceremony, two more Elites uncloaked and informed Spartan that a group of Young Bloods hunting on BG-386 had sent a distress call. Spartan ordered the Elites to their ship, and when the Yautja ship reached the planet it destroyed the USS Marlow in orbit. Three drop pods carried Dark, Wolf and a third Elite to the source of the signal, where they were to learn the fate of the pack. Their orders were also to make sure that Yautja technology did not fall into the hands of the human colonists of BG-386.

Spartan spoke to Dark during the mission and showed that he knew the history of the planet. When Dark approached the entrance to the Yautja pyramid, the Elder said that history was written in the very stone and that he was sure the one entombed there was present, a reference to the Ancient Predator Lord. During the battle against the Predalien inside the pyramid, Spartan repeatedly called the creature an Abomination. He spoke of it with particular hatred and even named it an affront to Yautja ancestry.

Carrying The Weapons Of An Elder

Spartan carried the standard arsenal of the Elite Clan, starting with dual wristblades and the plasmacaster he also entrusted to new Elites. He used a cloak to vanish from the arena before releasing the Xenomorphs on the Young Blood, and he wore a wrist gauntlet fitted with a self-destruct device. His face was covered by a bio-helmet, and his dreadlocks hung from beneath it over his shoulders. Unlike Wolf and the third Elite sent to BG-386, Spartan did not die during the campaign and was still alive when the story ended.

Earning His Name In Multiplayer

Spartan was never named in the single-player campaign of Aliens vs. Predator, where he appeared only as the Elder of the Elite Clan. As with the other Predators of the game, his name came from his multiplayer skin, which players unlocked on reaching Rank 31. The same naming habit gave Dark and Wolf their names, since both were also skins in the online modes. Thanks to the skin, players who reached that rank could play as the Elder of the Elite Clan in the online modes of the game.

Conclusion

Spartan was the Elder, clan leader and eldest member of the Elite Clan in the 2010 Aliens vs. Predator game by Rebellion. He tested the Young Blood who became Dark, gave him a plasmacaster and welcomed him into the Elite rank. After the distress call from BG-386, he sent Dark, Wolf and a third Elite to find the missing Young Bloods. He knew the legend of Lord and the history of the pyramid, and he despised the Predalien as an Abomination and an affront to Yautja ancestry. Unlike Wolf, he survived the events of the game, and his name came from the multiplayer skin that players unlocked at Rank 31.
