Rahim was the medical officer on the Weyland-Yutani deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot in Alien: Earth, played by Amir Boutrous. A sharp-tongued smoker with a past of drink and pharmacy abuse, he ran the medbay through the final approach to Earth in 2120, when escaped specimens turned his work into a string of emergencies. His attempt to cut a Facehugger off captain RJ Dinsdale killed the captain, and his surgery on apprentice engineer Malachite released a tick toxin that killed him, Malachite, and science officer Chibuzo before the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City.
Biography
Aboard The USCSS Maginot
Rahim served as ship doctor on the Maginot from its 2055 launch on the company specimen-collection voyage, a sixty-five-year run to gather alien lifeforms for Weyland-Yutani. Like the rest of the crew, he spent most of the mission in stasis and woke on changeovers when the ship needed hands. His medical post made him the crew member responsible for cryo fitness, injuries, and anything the specimens did to the people who handled them. He carried a history of drink and drug abuse into the mission, though he held that he had stayed sober for a long time aboard.
Off duty he was one of the ship's easier personalities. During a stasis break he fitted the ship's cat Rascal with a collar camera, and its footage later caught him playing gin rummy with Chibuzo while the two talked over D. Plumbicare, one of the specimens in the ship zoo. He smoked freely around the vessel, a habit that kept him in friendly conflict with crewmates who had to share the air.
Four Months From Earth
In 2120, with about four months left to Earth, Rahim woke with the changeover crew and reached for a cigarette almost at once. At the shared meal he took the rest of chief engineer Petrovich's food on the medical grounds that no one should eat heavily before cryo. When crewmate Sullivan admitted that stasis unsettled her, he told the table it was because navigator Teng watched her while she slept. Chibuzo insisted Teng had stopped after a warning from chief security officer Kumi Morrow, and Rahim kept needling the point.
Captain Dinsdale then told the table that comms were down, log files were corrupt, and the ship was burning too much fuel. Morrow put security on the problem, and engineer Shmuel floated dumping the specimen zoo before Morrow reminded everyone that the specimens were the mission. The meeting broke up with part of the crew going back into cryo, leaving Rahim among those who would stay awake for the last stretch home.
Facehuggers In The Medbay
About seventeen days from Earth a fire broke out in containment, and Dinsdale and science officer Bronski were attacked by escaped Facehuggers when they went in to fight it. Both men were brought to the medbay, and Rahim tried to free the captain first. The creature's tail was locked tight around Dinsdale's throat, so he cut into its base, and its acid blood spilled over the captain's head, killed him, and ate through several decks.
When Morrow and junior security officer Clem arrived, Rahim explained what had happened, though no one in the bay knew how the fire had started. Chibuzo recited the company protocol for parasite cases, and executive officer Zoya Zaveri chose to freeze Bronski with the creature still attached rather than risk a second operation. Zaveri took command and assigned Teng to help Rahim with both Bronski's cryotube and Dinsdale's burial in space. Preparing the body, Rahim apologized to the dead captain and took the blame on himself.
Freezing Bronski
Rahim, Teng, and Clem sealed Bronski into his hypersleep chamber. When Clem asked why the company wanted such creatures, Rahim told him it came down to corporate power: five companies controlled everything, and Weyland-Yutani meant to stay on top with the most terrifying specimens it could find. Soon afterward MU/TH/UR reported a quarantine breach in the cryo bay, where the embryo inside Bronski had matured and a Xenomorph had burst from his chest and through the tube.
Rahim protested that Bronski had been frozen and that he had only been away for about ten minutes, and wondered aloud whether the creatures simply could not be frozen. He proposed waking the rest of the crew to form search parties, but Morrow refused to add more frightened people to a volatile ship. Sent to fetch Chibuzo for Zaveri's meeting, he found one of the Species 19 ticks loose in the zoo lab, caught it with forceps, and returned it to its tank.
Morrow Interview
At the mess-hall briefing Rahim and Teng were smoking until Chibuzo objected, and Zaveri told the crew that Bronski was dead, a Xenomorph was loose, and fuel was nearly gone. Morrow declared a shipwide emergency, ordered travel in pairs, demanded duty rosters and activity logs, and began interviewing off-duty personnel. Rahim was the first interviewed.
He said he had spent the morning in the medbay and pointed Morrow to the work logs. Morrow countered that the medbay cameras had a blind spot and that Rahim had been off screen for ten minutes, then pressed on whether anything would turn up missing from the pharmacy. Rahim answered that he had been sober for a long time and only wanted to go home. The interview cleared nothing, but the real saboteur would soon be traced to Petrovich through recovered communications.
Surgery On Malachite And Death
Malachite then began vomiting blood and collapsed, and Rahim called Zaveri to the medbay on an urgent channel. With Chibuzo he ran scans that showed six dark masses along the apprentice's digestive tract and blood loss no one could explain. Rahim argued that freezing Malachite would kill him and asked to operate at once, and Zaveri authorized the surgery over Morrow's contamination objection.
Opening the chest, Rahim found six ticks lining the esophagus and feeding on blood, and Chibuzo identified them as Species 19. He tried to pull one free despite Morrow's protest, and the creatures released a toxin that filled the room and killed Rahim, Chibuzo, and Malachite together. Morrow forced Zaveri to seal the medbay with the dead inside. After the Maginot crashed in Prodigy City, New Siam, Prodigy soldiers found the three bodies tangled in the medbay wiring, and the deaths were judged as toxin suffocation rather than crash trauma.
Personality And Traits
Rahim met most situations with gallows humor. He teased Petrovich out of his meal, needled Teng in front of the whole mess, and argued back when Chibuzo complained about his cigarettes. Under the jokes sat a frank view of the mission: he told Clem plainly that the specimens were about corporate power, and in Morrow's interview he wanted nothing more than to get home.
As a doctor he acted quickly and took responsibility for the outcome. He chose to cut the Facehugger off Dinsdale rather than wait, apologized to the captain's body afterward, and pushed for surgery on Malachite when freezing him meant certain death. The same readiness to act against unknown biology cost him twice, first the captain and then his own life with two crewmates beside him. His addiction history made him an easy target for suspicion, but nothing in the investigation tied him to the sabotage.
Behind The Scenes
Amir Boutrous played Rahim in Alien: Earth (2025), appearing in "Neverland" and "In Space, No One...", with his body shown in "Mr. October". Most of his screen time sits in the Episode 5 Maginot flashback, where he shares the medbay scenes with Karen Aldridge as Chibuzo, Richa Moorjani as Zaveri, and Babou Ceesay as Morrow. The episode dialogue names him as Dr. Rahim, and he wears the green Maginot field jacket with the mission shoulder patch used across the waking crew.
Famous Quotes
- "Not supposed to have a heavy meal before cryo. I'm telling you that as your doctor."
- "That's 'cause Teng over there, with his beady little eyes, stares at you while you sleep."
- "Sorry, Captain. My bad. It should've been me."
- "Bronski was frozen."
- "Check the work logs."
- "I just wanna go home, man."
Conclusion
Rahim was the Maginot doctor who faced the ship's specimens with a scalpel when they broke loose on the way home. His attempt to free Dinsdale killed the captain, his warning about frozen parasites came too late for Bronski, and his questioning by Morrow turned on an old addiction rather than the sabotage. The surgery he pushed for to save Malachite released the toxin that killed him with Chibuzo and the apprentice, and the Maginot flew on without its medical officer into the Prodigy City crash.
