The USCSS Maginot was a Weyland-Yutani deep-space research vessel, and in Alien: Earth its crew brought alien specimens home from a sixty-five-year collection voyage that began in 2055. Captain RJ Dinsdale commanded with Zoya Zaveri as executive officer and the cybernetic Morrow running security, over engineers, scientists, a navigator, medical staff, and a yellow cat named Rascal. Seventeen days from Earth in 2120, a containment fire set by the saboteur Petrovich loosed Facehuggers on the captain and science officer Bronski, and the specimens soon spread through the ship. By the time the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City in New Siam, Morrow was the only crew member left alive.
The Crew
Captain RJ Dinsdale
RJ Dinsdale was the captain of the Maginot, played by Tanapol Chuksrida, and he led the ship through the last stretch of its sixty-five-year specimen-collection voyage. Four months from Earth he warned the waking crew that comms were down, the log files were corrupted, and the ship was burning far too much fuel. He told Zaveri and Teng to find systems they could shut down, then went back into cryo with orders to wake him on final approach. Seventeen days from Earth he was first into a burning containment room, where an escaped Facehugger clamped itself over his face. In the medbay, doctor Rahim cut into the creature, its acid blood spilled over the captain and killed him, and Zaveri took command.
Chief Security Officer Morrow
Kumi Morrow was the Maginot's chief security officer, a cybernetically enhanced Weyland-Yutani man played by Babou Ceesay. At the mess table he shut down Shmuel's talk of dumping the zoo by reminding the crew that the specimens were the mission, and he later told Zaveri he was responsible for getting the cargo home intact whether or not the crew survived. After the containment fire he recovered the deleted comms files that revealed the deal with Boy Kavalier, used Teng's cryopod tip to expose Petrovich, and impaled the saboteur with his cybernetic arm. He sealed himself inside the MU/TH/UR chamber, spoke privately with Weyland-Yutani, and welded the door shut while a Xenomorph killed Zaveri outside. Morrow was the only crew member to survive the crash, and he transferred the ship's data into his own cyborg brain and wiped the computer clean.
Executive Officer Zoya Zaveri
Zoya Zaveri was the Maginot's executive officer, played by Richa Moorjani. Four months from Earth she corrected Malachite's guess about the corporate map at the mess table, and Dinsdale left her in charge of the waking crew when he returned to cryo. After the captain died she became acting captain and fought Morrow and Mother over whether the crew or the cargo came first. She authorized the medbay surgery on Malachite that killed three of her people, and Morrow used her relationship with science officer Bronski against her when he moved to seize command. A Xenomorph born from Bronski killed her outside the MU/TH/UR chamber after Morrow welded the door shut.
Chief Engineer Petrovich
Petrovich was the chief engineer, played by Enzo Cilenti, over an engineering department that included Shmuel and Malachite. Disillusioned after a partner died collecting specimens for a quarter share, he cut a secret deal with Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier to crash the Maginot into Prodigy City in exchange for wealth and a new body. He was behind the dead comms and corrupted logs, faked cryosleep, started the containment fire, opened the egg cases, and damaged the navigation and fuel systems. When Morrow closed in, he opened fire with an armory pistol and killed Clem. Morrow circled back and impaled him through the chest with his cybernetic arm, and Petrovich died telling him that they wanted their monsters.
Science Officer Bronski
Bronski was a Maginot science officer played by Max Rinehart, who worked the specimen zoo beside Chibuzo, and for about eight months he had been in a secret relationship with Zaveri. Seventeen days from Earth he followed Dinsdale into the burning containment room, and a Facehugger seized him there as well. After the captain died during Rahim's attempt to cut his parasite loose, the crew froze Bronski in a cryopod with the creature still attached, following the company protocol Chibuzo recited. The embryo inside him kept growing, and the Chestburster that escaped from his pod became the Xenomorph that killed Teng and Zaveri.
Medical Officer Rahim
Rahim was the Maginot's doctor, played by Amir Boutrous, and he ran the medbay through the final approach to Earth. When the Facehuggers struck, he tried to cut the parasite off Dinsdale, and its acid blood killed the captain on the table. With Teng and Clem he froze Bronski in cryo, telling Clem the specimens were about corporate power, with five companies controlling everything. He smoked in the mess with Teng and played gin rummy with Chibuzo during stasis breaks. When Malachite collapsed, Rahim opened him up and tried to pull out one of the Species 19 ticks, and its toxin killed him, Chibuzo, and the apprentice together.
Navigator Teng
Teng was the Maginot's navigator, played by Andy Yu, and he kept the ship on course through the final approach to Earth in 2120. He answered fuel and distance questions with dry sarcasm and spent off hours watching crewmate Sullivan in hypersleep until Morrow warned him off. After the Facehugger attack he helped move Bronski, and at the mess hall he forced the crew to face the fuel breach. In Morrow's sabotage interview he pointed out that a full cryopod reading did not always mean the pod was occupied, the clue that exposed Petrovich. He stayed behind in the interview room and died alone when a Xenomorph came through the vent.
Science Officer Chibuzo
Chibuzo was a science officer, played by Karen Aldridge, who worked the specimen zoo with Bronski and catalogued Facehuggers, T. Ocellus, D. Plumbicare, and the Species 19 blood ticks. When Shmuel proposed shooting her specimens into space, Morrow backed the zoo as the mission itself. After the containment fire she recited the company protocol that put Bronski into cryosleep, then went with Clem to secure the zoo. In the lab she logged that starved ticks would feed on dead tissue, but she lost containment on a tick and the Ocellus and left behind an infected water bottle. She died in Medbay One with Rahim and Malachite when Species 19 toxin filled the sealed room during his surgery.
Junior Security Officer Clem Madey
Clem Madey was the junior security officer under Morrow, played by Tom Moya. He sent messages home to his mom and dad when channels were open, and he asked Morrow to stop calling him by the nickname Chlamydia. After the containment fire he shook Morrow out of hypersleep with the news about Dinsdale and Bronski, then secured the zoo with Chibuzo. He ran the recovery program on deleted ship communications that exposed the saboteur, and he stayed armed through the mess-hall emergency. Petrovich wounded him in a gunfight and shot him dead after Morrow dragged him into the lab for cover.
Engineer Shmuel
Shmuel was an engineer under Petrovich, played by Michael Smiley, and a married man whose children on Earth had grown older than he was during the voyage. At the mess table he suggested shooting Chibuzo's specimens into space and claimed that Weyland-Yutani put things in the crew's food to control their minds. He mentored Malachite through corporate maps and share talk and kept the engines running as the ship burned fuel and lost containment. After Morrow ordered him to transfer engine function to the bridge, the escaped Ocellus took his left eye and drove his body. A Xenomorph killed that host body, and the parasite left the corpse before the Maginot hit Earth.
Apprentice Engineer Malachite
Malachite was the Maginot's engineering apprentice, played by Jamie Bisping, and he worked beside Shmuel under Petrovich. Four months from Earth he guessed wrong about who held the Moon and agreed with Shmuel that the specimens gave him the creeps. He worked repairs after the containment fire and had a share docked for eating through an emergency briefing. After drinking water contaminated by escaped Species 19 offspring, he collapsed with juvenile blood ticks lining his esophagus. The medbay surgery meant to save him killed him along with Rahim and Chibuzo.
Crew Member Sullivan
Sullivan was a Maginot crew member played by Victoria Masoma, and she appeared at the crew meal four months out from Earth in 2120. At the table she admitted that cryo really crept her out, and Rahim joked that it was because Teng stared at her while she slept. Morrow had already warned Teng about watching her in hypersleep, and he reprimanded the navigator again when Teng drifted toward her during the meal. Unlike most of the crew, she was never touched by the specimens: she was still in her hypersleep pod when the Maginot crashed into Prodigy City, and the impact killed her. Prodigy soldiers searching the wreck later found her body in the hypersleep chamber.
Rascal, The Ship's Cat
Rascal was the Maginot's yellow ship's cat, filling the same place Jones held on the USCSS Nostromo. During stasis breaks the cat wore a collar camera, and its footage caught Shmuel talking with Malachite about his children and Chibuzo playing gin rummy with Rahim. Those recordings survived on a Prodigy data drive recovered after the crash. Rascal did not survive, and the T. Ocellus later took over the cat's corpse, using it as a host in Prodigy City.
Conclusion
The Maginot left Earth in 2055 and came back in 2120 with its specimens but almost none of its people. Dinsdale fell to a Facehugger, Petrovich killed Clem before Morrow killed him, Teng and Zaveri died to the Xenomorph, and the Ocellus wore Shmuel's body into its last fight. Chibuzo and Malachite died together in the medbay with Rahim. Morrow alone lived through the crash in Prodigy City, carrying the ship's data inside his own head.
