Dachande Predator: Profile Of The "Broken Tusk"
Dachande, also known as Broken Tusk, or Yeyinde, was one of most respected Yautja featured in the first Aliens vs. Predator comic series. He played a central role in the Xenomorph outbreak on Ryushi that overran the settlement of Prosperity Wells. These events placed him at the center of one of the earliest documented alliances between a human and a Yautja hunter.
The "Broken Tusk" Predator
Dachande is one of the most famous Predators from the Alien vs. Predator series, also being the first "main" Predator from the first ever Aliens vs. Predator comic series. Dachande had first been named Yeyinde, a term that meant brave one, before earning the name Dachande which meant different knife. His broken tusk came from a close quarters battle with a Xenomorph during a previous rite of passage, a detail noted by several of his subordinates who viewed the wound as a symbol of experience. He served as the elder leader of a training party of Young Blood Predators, who were destined to go on their first hunt of Xenomorphs.
Initial Hunts
Before arriving at Ryushi, Dachande gained wide respect for repeatedly hunting Xenomorphs and helping younger Predators do the same. Based on the novel "Prey", which expands on the comic, Dachande trained hundreds of Young Bloods, while only losing about a dozen of them. At the start of the Aliens vs. Predator comic series, Dachande challenged the clan leader Top-Knot in a duel and won. Dachande then chose the planet Ryushi as the hunting grounds, which would become fatal to him and his hunting party.
A Hunt On Ryushi
The Yautja used their mothership to "seed" planets with Xenomorph eggs before a hunt, waiting for local wildlife to spawn Aliens. Dachande expected Ryushi to host a Xenomorph hunt, but did not know that a human colony had already been established there. The group of Predators descended on the planet in a Yautja shuttle, leaving the Mother Ship in orbit. However, the scouting shuttle exploded after first contact with the colonists, when a human speeder bike crashed into it. While Dachande survived, he became separated from his hunting party and left gravely injured, leaving the young hunters to choose a new leader.
Failure And Capture
The unblooded hunters placed Tichinde, a Predator with a reputation for rash and brutal behavior, in charge. Without Dachande to guide them, they abandoned the Yautja code and targeted colonists instead of Xenomorphs. Meanwhile, humans captured the injured Dachande and brought him to the colony med center. His weakened state prevented escape, and he watched events spiral out of control while restrained. Soon after, many of the young Predators were killed by Xenomorphs or the defending humans. The Xenomorphs soon reached the colony and started their rampage there, being headed by an Alien Queen.
Fight With Tichinde
Tichinde, a proud and ambitious hunter, assumed command of the unblooded group and soon abandoned the expected rules of engagement by targeting colonists instead of the intended Xenomorphs. He went as far as attacking unarmed women and children, making him a Bad Blood. When Dachande regained consciousness and escaped his restraints, he encountered the aftermath of Tichinde’s actions and confronted him directly. The wounded Dachande fought with a knife, while Tichinde used his wristblades. Their duel ended when Dachande drove the small spear into Tichinde’s jaw, an execution that restored honor to his Yautja clan.
Teaming Up With Machiko Noguchi
Machiko Noguchi, the colony administrator, had already observed Dachande’s behavior and recognized that his actions differed from the murderous rampage of the rogue Yautja group. She helped him escape the med center by providing access to his armor and guiding him through the facility. Dachande, acknowledging her courage, assigned her the Yautja name "Da dtou di" (Small Knife) and accepted her as a temporary partner in the fight for survival. Machiko Noguchi fought with only her trusty pistol, killing several Xenomorphs with headshots.
Fights Against Xenomorphs
Dachande and Machiko made their way through the infested ranch facilities and toward the freighter Lector, which had become a major hive site after the Queen’s release. The pair faced drones and warriors that had already overwhelmed most of the colony's security forces. Dachande’s tactical skill allowed them to reach the launch bay where the Queen had established her presence near the escape pods. Dachande engaged multiple Xenomorphs in melee combat, but received wounds in the process.
Killing The Queen
Dachande and Machiko used a heavy tractor to crash directly into the hive structure. The impact struck the Queen and cleared a path to the emergency escape pod. Inside the vessel, Machiko moved to the cockpit to initiate the barge navigation sequence while Dachande held the Queen at bay. The Queen survived the collision and pursued them, delivering the wounds that would later prove fatal to Dachande. Machiko fired repeatedly as she dragged him into the escape pod, forcing the creature back long enough to seal the hatch. The Queen forced an arm inside, which Dachande severed before the closing doors crushed and decapitated her.
Death Of Dachande
The pod launched seconds before the barge descended into the Lector and Prosperity Wells, destroying the colony and eliminating the remaining Xenomorphs. The escape pod landed miles away from the site where the colony once stood. Machiko and Dachande exited the craft, though his condition had already begun to fail from the wounds inflicted by the Queen. Acknowledging his fate, Dachande used one of the Queen’s severed fingers to perform the blooding mark on Machiko’s forehead. This act confirmed her in the Yautja ranks at the moment of his death.
Legacy Of Dachande
After the events on Ryushi, Machiko carried the memory of Dachande into her later encounters with Yautja hunting parties. For a while, Machiko lived alone on Ryushi, using the Queen's head to decorate her house. Later, Top-Knot's clan arrived and, seeing the blooding mark on her forehead, took her into the Yautja ranks. Machiko became a human Predator and hunted together with the Predators for a year, but grew increasingly frustrated with them, as the Yautja did not seem as honorable as Dachande. Among the Yautja, Dachande was remembered as a leader who upheld the code even when wounded and separated from his command.
Weapons And Armor
Compared to traditional Predators, Broken Tusk used much heavier armor, made for fighting Xenomorphs, not humans. One of Dachande's distinctive features was a Xenomorph head fused into his chest place. Dachande used a golden bio-mask, similar to Greyback Predator's "Golden Angel" mask from the Predator: 1719 comic book. His combistick could separate into two short spears, a feature that allowed him to fight efficiently in both open and confined spaces. His hand-held burner, which replaced a shoulder-mounted caster, operated with a manual recharging system that limited its rate of fire but produced substantial destructive impact.
Dachande Figures
Figures out of Dachande have been made both by NECA and Hot Toys. NECA released Dachande as part of their Predator Series 18, but unfortunately, no "Ultimate" version of the figure has been released. Hot Toys released Broken Tusk Predator 1/6th scale Predator in December 2025. It features a meticulously crafted head sculpt with delicate rubber strands of hair and the signature Predator mask printed with its distinctive lightning motif. The figures comes with the signature weaponry he used in the comic.
Conclusion
Although featured in only one story where he dies at the end, Dachande is a fan-favorite Predator and often shows up on any "Most Powerful Predators" lists. Dachane was also one of the most honorable Predators, never attacking humans and focusing on hunting Xenomorphs, while teaching other Yautja. He was often defined by his friendship with Machiko Noguchi, the first such act in Yautja lore, although many other Predator/Human team-ups followed later. The relationship of Alexa Woods and Scar Predator from Alien vs. Predator 2004 mirrored Dachande's journey in many ways.
