Herk Mondo was a mercenary who ran Mondo Pest, a one-man extermination service that hunted adult Xenomorphs, in Henry Gilroy and Ronnie del Carmen's Dark Horse comics Aliens: Mondo Pest and Aliens: Mondo Heat. Rank-and-file Colonial Marines treated him as a living legend before the Oryza job. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 later put his comic kit on player Marines as Herk Mondo's Pest Pack.
Bracken's World
Mondo first showed up on Bracken's World in Aliens: Colonial Marines #6. A Marine squad was fighting aquatic Xenomorphs when he cut in, pulled Carmen Vasquez (sister of Jenette Vasquez) clear, and finished the last of that pack. He left for what he called brewski time and named a chemical fire on Solano's moon as the smell he liked in the morning. Joseph Henry did not know the stranger. Sergeant Nyland treated Mondo as a living legend from boot-camp stories.
Colony Oryza
In Aliens: Mondo Pest he answered a distress call from rice colony Oryza in the battered ship that carried the Mondo Pest logo on its hull. On the way in he pulled a child named Nate away from a lone adult Xenomorph, told the kid never to turn his back on a bug, and agreed to look for Nate's Uncle Hank. He hailed the colony for landing instructions. The compound fired a missile instead, and the ship that he had just finished paying off went down in the fields. The crash crushed one Xenomorph under the hull.
Surveyor Simon Plowright and colony leader Dr. Kelly Ann Paige met him at the wreck. Paige had sent the call. The colony had no credits and offered developed land in the rice fields as pay. Mondo took the job anyway once they promised to tow and repair the ship. Colonists watching him walk off repeated a rumor that he had broken out of Marine psych lock-up just to hunt Xenomorphs.
Nate pointed the bugs to a cave pit by Old Man Radomski's place. Paige rode out with Mondo and a handful of armed volunteers who claimed they had weapons training. He carried a unique double-barreled gun that burned through shells fast, plus a heart tattoo on his bicep with the name Sally on the banner. Paige asked about the tattoo. He would not talk about it.
The Lost Hand
The cave walls were magnesium. Paige stopped him from using a flamethrower because a fire there would not go out. Deeper in, they found Hank and other colonists sealed in hive resin. Hank refused a rescue and wanted to be finished before a Chestburster came. Mondo treated the cocooned men as dead and killed them as the hive closed in.
The volunteers did not last once the hive moved. One adult Xenomorph clamped onto Mondo's right hand and tore it off, and he shot the creature with his other hand, then chased it into the dark for the missing one. Paige drove them back toward Oryza Compound and blamed him for Hank and the other three men.
Plowright refused to open the barricade, citing compound security, and threatened the missile system if they came closer. Xenomorphs came over the wall while he held the gate shut. Mondo shoved Paige out of the driver's seat, crashed the colony truck through the compound, and went into the fight with a bandaged stump.
Back To The Hive
After the compound fight he found Nate's broken glasses and went back to the hive for the kid, dead or alive. Paige treated him as a hero. He rejected that and went for a personal score with the hive instead. Before he left he punched a can of Di Fate Lager, salted it, and drank it, then took a hooked knife and a heavy incinerator back underground.
The pit held a man-made rack of sixteen Xenomorph eggs, and only one had not hatched. He burned that farm and started adding up the adult Xenomorphs he had dropped: one under the ship, a couple shot with the colonists, one run over, one smashed, one impaled, one burned. He ran out of fingers before he ran out of bugs. A Facehugger and more adult Xenomorphs hit him while Nate hung cocooned on the hive wall.
Mondo tied the knife to his stump, freed Nate from the last adult Xenomorphs, and carried the kid out. Nate threw Mondo's own rule back at him after Mondo almost turned his back on a bug. The next day Paige asked him to stay for harvest. He refused. He was not a farmer, and he needed a hand of his own. She asked about Sally again. He still would not answer.
Plowright crawled out of the wreckage alive. Mondo put the knife in him and forced the rest of the story out. Plowright had brought the eggs to Oryza, sent his own security into the hive, and needed the colony gone so he could mine the magnesium. He had also been the one who ordered the shot that wrecked Mondo's ship. Nate did not mourn him. Mondo left in the repaired Mondo Pest ship.
Gimeno Industrial Settlement
Aliens: Mondo Heat put him on the Gimeno Industrial Settlement, a tropical factory that sat on a volcano and pulled valuable material out of the magma. The owner's missing daughter Kayla and her friend Suzi were the job. The father wanted their bodies recovered before Colonial Marines arrived to disinfect the hive, and he sent his son Xavier to fly Mondo in. Mondo took the contract as easy credits.
They found a flare and the word HELP painted on a tower, then walked into a live hive. Xenomorphs knocked Mondo off the structure and stripped him of his guns. Xavier's father ordered the son back to base while Mondo climbed the tower alone and found both women alive. They had one small pistol between them. He treated that as bug bait unless they built something bigger.
The Factory Weapon
He ripped power cable out of the factory, strapped heavy packs to Kayla and Suzi, and turned industrial hardware into a beam weapon they had to hold the hoses for. A Xenomorph bit the prosthetic that had replaced his Oryza hand. The new one had not lasted long. Kayla took charge of the payday and pushed him toward a freight shuttle while magma tremors started under the plant. He blocked a magma vent to draw the control room's attention, then used the factory itself as a weapon when the beam gun ran empty.
Xavier had brought the hive to Gimeno to kill Kayla. After his craft went down, she refused to open the hatch for him, and the Xenomorphs killed him on the sand. They took the survivors back to her father. He had heard the radio traffic and knew Xavier was gone. Marines arrived to clean the settlement. Mondo picked up his bag, treated the arriving Marines as late, and left them to mop up.
Fireteam Elite 2
Cold Iron Studios and Daybreak Game Company shipped Herk Mondo's Pest Pack with the 40th Anniversary Premium Edition of Fireteam Elite 2 on 25 August 2026. Standard owners could buy the same kit later as part of the $19.99 Premium upgrade. The pack is a cosmetic, not a playable cameo. Any created Marine can wear the backward cap, sunglasses, spiked pauldron, and sleeveless Mondo look.
The exclusive gun is Herk's Mondo Pest Modified Pulse Rifle, an oversized Pulse Rifle with MONDO PEST on the receiver, hazard striping, and the marking T-ST 771 on the promotional model. The kit also adds weapon color variants and nine exclusive decals. The sequel's campaign sent Marines into Storr's Boon on LV-558 in 2207, after Dr. Pearce called for help. Mondo is not written into that story. A created Marine in Herk Mondo's Pest Pack can still fight that hive in his comic kit.
The first Aliens: Fireteam Elite named the firm. The Thunderbolt Mk. 2 Autocannon description lists Mondo Brand Professional Extermination Services among the groups using that gun, years before the sequel built a full outfit around him.
Behind The Scenes
Henry Gilroy wrote both solo comics. Ronnie del Carmen drew them and the title illustrations. Matthew Hollingsworth colored Mondo Pest. Pamela Rambo colored Mondo Heat. Steve Dutro lettered both. Ryder Windham edited the first story. Mondo Pest ran in Dark Horse Comics #22-24 from June to August 1994, then as an April 1995 one-shot with a sketch section. Mondo Heat followed as a February 1996 one-shot.
Those two stories sit in Aliens Omnibus Volume 4, published in July 2008, and later in Marvel's Aliens: The Original Years Volume 3 in 2022. They play as action comedy inside the Alien comics line, with Mondo treating hives as pest jobs rather than a last stand. Gilroy later became a lead writer and story editor on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Del Carmen's Mondo is the look Cold Iron copied for the Fireteam Elite 2 pack: backward cap, small dark glasses, cigar, studded shoulder armor, and a rifle too big for a standard Marine locker.
Conclusion
Herk Mondo ran Mondo Pest as a one-man Xenomorph exterminator in Gilroy and del Carmen's Mondo Pest and Mondo Heat. He cleared Oryza after Plowright seeded the hive, lost a hand doing it, then pulled Kayla and Suzi off Gimeno and left Xavier to the Xenomorphs. Fireteam Elite 2 put that comic kit back on player Marines.
