Curly was one of the hybrid children made by Prodigy in Alien: Earth, a dying girl named Jane Mita whose mind was moved into an adult synthetic body. Erana James played her. She was among the Lost Boys sent into the wreck of the USCSS Maginot in 2120, where she trapped a specimen after it attacked Nibs. She tried to become Boy Kavalier's favorite, stayed on Neverland when Wendy fled with her brother, and in the uprising went after the soldiers while the Lost Boys locked their makers away.
Biography
Growing Up As Jane Mita
Curly was born Jane Mita, a terminally ill girl of about 12 who could not walk and needed a wheelchair. She later told the other hybrids she had always been sick, and that her mother said she had no immune system. Like the other children chosen for the program, she was brought to Neverland while she was dying, and she was there in the garden when Wendy told the new arrivals that the boy genius had fixed her. When Wendy asked for questions, Jane raised her hand from the wheelchair and asked whether she would be able to walk again. Wendy promised that they would walk, run, jump and dance.
Wendy explained that grown-up minds were too stiff, while the minds of children could still make the move into a synthetic body. Jane went through the transfer after her and woke in the body of a young woman, with a code name taken from Peter Pan, as Boy Kavalier named all of his hybrids. Her family was told that she had died, and a grave marked Jane was made for her on the island. She kept her human name as a secret. In a recorded talk from before the transfer she said she really liked Wendy, who felt like a big sister she had never had.
First Mission Into The Maginot
When the Maginot came down in New Siam, Kavalier sent the hybrids in with the soldiers as their first mission. Curly flew in with the Lost Boys under Kirsh, while Wendy broke away with Slightly to find her brother. Inside the wreck they came across a plant-like life form hanging from the ceiling, and Curly called it a monster and wanted it killed. Kirsh warned them that it was a non-terrestrial species, then put her on point and told her to take Smee and Nibs to find something that could hold it. On the way she told Nibs not to look when they came across a dead soldier.
In a laboratory the three found a dead soldier and a cat whose eye was not its own. The T. Ocellus left the cat and lunged at Nibs while Curly and Smee shouted for her to hold still. Curly told her to throw it down, and once Nibs tore it off she trapped the creature in a container. Kirsh learned that the Maginot had been gathering specimens and sent the hybrids on to secure cargo that included Alien eggs. While they worked, Nibs asked why they could not keep their original names and why the names came from Peter Pan.
Trying To Be The Favorite
After Wendy was damaged fighting to save her brother, Curly went to Boy Kavalier to report on the mission. He told her that he had sent Wendy, who had been broken, and that was why Curly was there. She said Wendy was his favorite. He asked who had said so, then admitted that Wendy was the favorite because she had been first, and he compared the first of a new thing to a pancake his father used to throw away. She asked if this was the place where they had been made, and said it did not bother her to be artificial if she got to live forever.
When he asked whether Wendy being the favorite bothered her, she said no, but that he was wrong, and that she was the best. She said all Wendy cared about was her brother, while she thought about the world and how to make it better. She would not tell him her ideas, because she thought he would steal them, then said she thought she could be him one day, more than him maybe. He offered her books to read and recordings to listen to. She asked if that meant she was his favorite now. He said no, but that she was in the race.
Life On Neverland
Back on Neverland she helped Kirsh and Tootles, who later took the name Isaac, prepare one of the eggs for study. Kirsh asked her to come in close on the incision point, and she recorded the work as he opened the egg, removed a Facehugger and took out the embryo. After Wendy collapsed from the sounds of the Xenomorphs, Kavalier asked Curly whether she could hear them too. She gave a vague answer at first, then admitted that she did not. Dame Sylvia later told Nibs that Curly had said she was really brave after the crash.
When the hybrids gathered with Joe Hermit over ice cream, Curly asked him what the Five were, because Kavalier kept talking about them. Hermit explained that five corporations had risen after the old governments failed, and named Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Threshold, Dynamic and Lynch. Slightly claimed to be the oldest of the group, and someone pointed out that Curly was about 12, and Isaac too. Talk turned to seeing their families, and when the others said they liked it there because they were respected and had been made into something, Curly agreed. She later played outside while Isaac went to the lab alone.
Staying On Neverland
After Isaac died in the lab, Wendy and Joe Hermit came for the children and told Curly that Nibs's memories had been erased and that they had to leave. Curly said they had been fine until Wendy made them get her brother, and she told Wendy not to talk about Kavalier as if she understood him. She said he just wanted to help people the way he had helped them, and that Neverland was the best place she had ever been. Wendy asked her to promise, really promise, that she would not tell on them. Curly promised, and Wendy and Hermit took Nibs toward the boat while she stayed behind.
An upset Curly went to Dame Sylvia's room and called her mother. Dame Sylvia asked what was wrong and held her while she tried to explain that everything was hard and she did not know what to do. Dame Sylvia promised that she would be okay. Curly had kept her word about the escape, yet that night the hybrids were still caught and locked up together. In the cell Nibs would guess that they had been found because Curly had run and told, a charge Curly denied.
Final Fate
The Lost Boys ended up together in a holding cell, where Curly said she was the favorite and should not be with them. Nibs guessed it was because she had told them about the escape, and Curly said she had not. Wendy told them she had found their graves, naming Rose, Marcy, Chris, Aarush and Jane, and looked at Curly when she said the last name. Curly answered that she was not dead, and insisted that Prodigy had saved them and that they could not die. Slightly reminded them that Isaac had died, and Curly said that would not happen to them.
Wendy turned the island's systems against the staff and called the hunt hide-and-seek. When Kavalier came to the cage and offered a story, Curly told him he was a liar and that he had said she was his favorite. He pretended not to remember. Nibs killed his security soldier and he ran. Wendy sent Nibs after Dame Sylvia, Smee and Slightly after Kirsh and Morrow, and Curly after the soldiers. When Wendy called her Curly, she answered that her name was Jane. Kavalier, Kirsh, Atom Eins, Morrow and Dame Sylvia were locked in the cage, and when Curly asked what they should do now, Wendy said they now ruled.
Personality And Traits
Curly carried a serious ambition into the hybrid body and treated the second chance Prodigy had given her as something she had to prove she deserved. She was jealous of the favor Kavalier showed Wendy and told him plainly that she thought she was the best, and that she could be him one day. That hunger for his approval never fully hid that she was still a child who wanted a parent to pick her. On the Maginot she showed the most care for Nibs, telling her not to look at the dead and checking on her after the eye attack.
She held onto Neverland longer than the others, defended Kavalier when Wendy called him their owner, and chose to stay when Wendy and Hermit took Nibs toward the boat. She kept the promise she had made not to tell, and she said so when Nibs accused her in the cell. Being locked up with the rest, after he had told her she was in the race, soured what she felt for him. When Wendy gave the order she went after the soldiers under her own name, and she was among the hybrids who held the island at the end of the first season.
Skills And Abilities
As a hybrid Curly had a fast, strong synthetic body that did not bleed red and could work through the Maginot wreck without the fear of a human child's wounds. She helped trap the eye creature, recorded Kirsh as he opened an egg, and was trusted with a task of her own in the uprising when Wendy sent her after the soldiers. Those same systems left her open to company control, since Prodigy could ground the hybrids and lock them in a cell built for people who were not supposed to break out.
Her mind was still that of a girl of about 12 who thought about the world and wanted a place at Kavalier's side. She asked Hermit to explain the Five, argued that she thought about more than Wendy did, and could not hear the Xenomorph sounds that knocked Wendy down. She could follow a hard order from Wendy once she had chosen the Lost Boys over the man who named her. In the end she was still one of the hybrids Wendy counted on when they took Neverland.
Relationships
Wendy was the big sister Curly said she had never had, then the favorite she wanted to replace, and at last the one who led the uprising and sent her after the soldiers. Boy Kavalier named her, heard her say she could be him, told her she was in the race, and then locked her in the cage and forgot the promise of favor. Nibs worked with her in the Maginot and later accused her of betraying the escape, even as Curly insisted she had kept her word. Dame Sylvia was the adult she went to as a mother when everything became too hard.
Kirsh led her into the wreck, put her on point, and used her in the lab when he opened an egg. Smee was with her when they trapped the eye creature, and Slightly was the one who later said Isaac had died after she claimed they could not. Isaac had been one of the two oldest of the group alongside her, and his death was the fact she did not want to accept. Joe Hermit explained the Five to her and later came with Wendy to take Nibs away. Morrow was the cyborg Wendy sent Slightly and Smee to find while Curly went after the soldiers.
Behind The Scenes
Curly was played by Erana James, the New Zealand actress known for her work in The Wilds. Like the rest of the hybrid cast, she played a child inside an adult body, and much of her part depends on ambition, jealousy, and the need to be chosen. She has said she had not seen any of the Alien films before she was cast, and that her brother told her to watch every one of them. Series creator Noah Hawley built the hybrids around the Lost Boys of Peter Pan, and the first season was filmed in Thailand.
In J. M. Barrie's story Curly is one of the Lost Boys, and one of the children in the show recalled that the book nicknamed her Pickles because she was always getting into trouble. The show keeps the name while giving her a path rooted in a wheelchair, a missing immune system, and a girl who wanted to be the favorite. Wendy later used that human name against the Peter Pan story Kavalier loved, pointing out that when Wendy Darling grew up, Peter kidnapped her daughter Jane. Child Curly was played by Lorelei Winterfrost in the Neverland arrival scenes and in the recorded talk from before the transfer.

Conclusion
Curly was Jane Mita, the hybrid who asked if she would walk again and later told Kavalier she could be him one day. She survived the Maginot, stayed on Neverland when Wendy fled, and still chose the Lost Boys when Wendy called the hunt. In the uprising she took back the name Jane and stood with the hybrids as they locked Kavalier and his staff away. At the end of the first season she held Neverland with the Lost Boys, still carrying the name the boy genius had given her and the one carved among their graves.
