Smee was one of the hybrid children made by Prodigy in Alien: Earth, a dying boy named Christopher Okafor whose mind was moved into an adult synthetic body. Jonathan Ajayi played him. He was among the Lost Boys sent into the wreck of the USCSS Maginot in 2120, where he trapped specimens with Nibs and Curly and later stood with Slightly among the eggs when the cyborg Morrow held them at gunpoint. When Slightly needed help moving infected Arthur Sylvia, Smee went with him, watched a Chestburster tear Arthur open, and in the uprising tied up Kirsh himself.

Biography

Christopher Okafor

Smee was born Christopher Okafor, a boy who struggled with severe ADHD and was raised by a mother fighting manic depression. School sent him home often, and he learned to get through hard days with humor and a bright outlook. Like the other children chosen for the program, he was brought to the island of Neverland while he was dying, and he was there in the garden when Wendy told the new arrivals that the boy genius had fixed her and given her a body better than new. The hybrids later found a grave marked for Chris among their own stones when Wendy led them to the burial ground.

Wendy explained that grown-up minds were too stiff, while the minds of children could still make the move into a synthetic body. Christopher went through the transfer after her and woke in the body of a young man, with a code name taken from Peter Pan, as Boy Kavalier named all of his hybrids. His family was told that he had died, and the island kept his human name as a secret the children were not supposed to share. As a hybrid he settled into the new body faster than some of the others, and Wendy later said that Smee did not like being alone.

First Mission Into The Maginot

When the Maginot came down in the Prodigy city of New Siam, Kavalier sent the hybrids in with the soldiers as their first mission. Smee flew in with the Lost Boys under Kirsh, while Wendy broke away with Slightly to find her brother. Inside the wreck the group came across a plant-like life form hanging from the ceiling, and Kirsh told Curly to take Smee and Nibs to find something that could hold it. In a laboratory the three found a dead soldier and a cat whose eye was not its own.

The eye creature left the cat and lunged at Nibs, fastening onto her face while Curly and Smee shouted for her to hold still. She tore it off, and Curly trapped it in a container while Smee held on and called Kirsh over. Kirsh plugged into the ship systems, learned that the Maginot had been gathering specimens, and sent Smee on to link up with Wendy and secure cargo that included Alien eggs. Smee moved through the dark holds toward the eggs while the rest of the team pressed the search.

Among The Eggs

Smee found Slightly waiting among the eggs, and the two of them joked that the clutch was not chicken eggs until a man stepped out of the dark and told them to drop their guns. Smee said they did not have any, and Slightly added that they were not allowed to. Morrow held them at gunpoint while he downloaded the Maginot's data, asked what they were, and pressed Slightly with a riddle about when a machine was not a machine. Kirsh arrived, told Morrow to let Slightly go, and Morrow warned that Yutani would never let Prodigy keep the specimens before an opening egg drove him off the platform.

Back on Neverland, Atom Eins questioned Smee and Slightly about the security officer they had met on the ship. He told them the hybrids had cameras that recorded everything they saw, and he asked Slightly what he had whispered at the end of the encounter. After Eins left, Smee stayed with Slightly and tried to settle him. The Maginot specimens came home with Prodigy, and the two boys kept that first mission close even as the island returned to its ordinary routine.

Arthur On The Beach

Morrow later used Slightly's family to force a bargain, and Slightly put a Facehugger on Arthur Sylvia. Smee forced his way into Slightly's room, found the unconscious scientist under the bed, and listened while Slightly swore the man from the ship only wanted the monster and would let Arthur go. Smee reluctantly agreed to help carry Arthur toward the beach. Kirsh caught them on the way, told them to take the secure elevator, and left them to finish a path that would serve his own plan.

In the forest they hid from a Prodigy security team, lost Arthur for a moment, then found him awake with the Facehugger gone and no memory of what had happened. They led him to the beach, where he collapsed and a Chestburster tore out of his chest while both boys screamed. Smee wept that Slightly had lied, begged Arthur to wake, and later helped carry the body on a makeshift raft until Morrow's soldiers rose from the water. That night he still wondered aloud whether Arthur was lying where they had left him, and he told Slightly they had done a bad thing.

Final Fate

Kirsh had Slightly and Smee grounded after Morrow's strike, and the Lost Boys ended up together in a holding cell. Wendy turned the island's systems against the staff, called the hunt hide-and-seek, and sent Smee and Slightly after Kirsh and the cyborg. On the way Smee asked again about Arthur and said they had done a bad thing, even as Slightly tried to push the guilt aside. In the lab they found Kirsh broken on the floor and Morrow unconscious, and when Kirsh handed them a restraint and told them to tie the cyborg, Smee tied Kirsh instead.

He told Kirsh that his time was done and that it was their time now. Slightly struck Morrow with a specimen tube after the cyborg claimed he had not hurt the boy's mother. Kavalier, Kirsh, Atom Eins, Morrow and Dame Sylvia were locked in the cage while Wendy told Kavalier what he was. At the end of the first season Smee stood with the Lost Boys as Wendy said they now ruled Neverland.

Personality And Traits

Smee carried a childlike eagerness into the hybrid body and treated each day with the Lost Boys as something to celebrate. He used humor and warmth to steady friends who were frightened, and he stayed close to Slightly whenever the other boy sank into guilt or confusion. After Eins pressed them about Morrow, Smee was the one who comforted Slightly. In the jungle Slightly told him that being a grown-up was not supposed to be fun, then gave him a grown-up hug that Smee returned without irony.

That softness did not make him soft when the island turned. He understood why Joe Hermit had stopped Nibs on the dock, and he would not let Slightly scrub Arthur's death into nothing. When Kirsh ordered them to bind Morrow, Smee chose the broken synthetic instead and spoke the line that ended Kirsh's authority over the children. He could love his friends without blinking and still take the island with them when Wendy gave the order.

Skills And Abilities

As a hybrid Smee had a fast, strong synthetic body that did not bleed red and could work through the Maginot wreck without the fear of a human child's wounds. He helped trap the eye creature, carried a grown man across Neverland with Slightly, and overpowered a damaged Kirsh long enough to bind him. Wendy trusted him with a paired task in the uprising, sending him with Slightly after Kirsh and Morrow. Those same systems left him open to company control, since Prodigy could ground the hybrids and lock them in a cell built for people who were not supposed to break out.

His mind was still that of a boy who had survived illness with jokes and loyalty. He told strangers to shut up when Slightly talked too freely, asked for answers when he did not know a word, and kept circling back to Arthur after the beach. He could follow a friend's desperate plan even when he hated it, and he could reverse an order from Kirsh when the moment finally favored the children. In the end he was still one of the hybrids Wendy counted on when the Lost Boys took Neverland.

Relationships

Slightly was Smee's closest friend among the Lost Boys, and the season keeps returning to the pair of them in the Maginot, on the beach, and in the cell. Smee forced his way into Slightly's secret, agreed to help move Arthur, wept when the Chestburster came, and still walked with him when Wendy sent them after Kirsh. Wendy was the first hybrid and the one who gave the children their plan in the uprising, and she trusted Smee with that hunt. Kirsh led him into the wreck, caught him with Arthur, grounded him, and then heard Smee say his time was done.

Arthur Sylvia treated Smee and Slightly as frightened children on the beach and died holding their hands like a father. Morrow used Slightly to reach Neverland and later faced both boys in the lab after the uprising. Boy Kavalier named Smee, owned the program that remade him, and ended the season locked in the cage the hybrids chose for him. Dame Sylvia had raised the children on the island, and she was among the adults they imprisoned when Wendy said they now ruled.

Behind The Scenes

Smee was played by Jonathan Ajayi, the British actor whose work also includes The Man in My Basement. Like the rest of the hybrid cast, he played a child inside an adult body, and much of his part depends on warmth, humor, and the bond with Slightly. Series creator Noah Hawley built the hybrids around the Lost Boys of Peter Pan, and the first season was filmed in Thailand. Ajayi has said he worked with drama-school teacher James Kerr on Grotowski puppet work so he could treat the body like a mannequin and let Smee's mannerisms take over.

In J. M. Barrie's story Smee is one of Captain Hook's crew rather than a Lost Boy, and the show keeps the name while giving him a path rooted in ADHD, loyalty, and a child who is happy to be among friends who cannot die. Ajayi described Smee's strength as his heart and said a young Smee once wanted to be a tiger. He chose an American accent inspired in part by Koda from Brother Bear and a young Michael Jackson, and he treated the grown-up hug with Slightly as a key to how Smee sees the world. Child Smee was played by Riotafari Gardner in the Neverland arrival scenes.

Conclusion

Smee was Christopher Okafor, the hybrid who met the Maginot with a joke and left Neverland's adults in a cage with a hard sentence for Kirsh. He survived the wreck, helped Slightly carry Arthur to a death neither of them could undo, and still chose the Lost Boys when Wendy called the hunt. In the uprising he tied Kirsh and stood with the hybrids as they locked Kavalier and his staff away. At the end of the first season he held Neverland with the Lost Boys, still carrying the name the boy genius had given him and the one carved among their graves.
