The Lost Boys were the first hybrids of the Prodigy Corporation in Alien: Earth, terminally ill children whose minds were moved into adult synthetic bodies on the island of Neverland. Boy Kavalier gave them code names from Peter Pan, and the synthetic scientist Kirsh and Dame Sylvia raised and studied them. Wendy came first, followed by Slightly, Smee, Curly, Tootles and Nibs, and in 2120 Kavalier sent them into the wreck of the USCSS Maginot after it came down on Prodigy City. By the end of the first season one of them was dead, and the rest had locked their makers in a cage.

Before The Transfer

Prodigy built its Hybrid program around a simple promise: a dying child did not have to die. The company chose children with terminal illnesses, all of them too sick to expect a future, and moved their minds into synthetic bodies that would not age, tire or fall ill. Kavalier saw the children as the first step toward a product that would make consumers immortal, a future where people would no longer need funerals.

The families were told their children had died, and they held funerals for sons and daughters who were still alive. The children woke on Neverland, Kavalier's private island research facility, where they lived among gardens, labs and classrooms under the eye of Kirsh and Dame Sylvia. They kept their memories of home and the families who had mourned them, but the island became the only world they knew, and they came to believe that they could no longer die.

The Lost Boys

Wendy

Wendy was born Marcy Hermit, the younger sister of the medic Joe Hermit and the daughter of Frank J. Hermit. As a child she played a game with her brother called face my fury, and she was gentle enough that she did not want a scorpion found in the mess killed, only kept under glass. She fell terminally ill, and Kavalier visited her and told her father that he could help her, but that she had to go away and keep it secret. She was the first child to go through the transfer, telling the later children that she had been dying and that the boy genius had fixed her right up, and her family held a funeral for her. She had just turned 12 by the time of the Maginot crash, though her new body was that of a grown woman.

On Neverland she became the big sister of the program, watching her brother on the Prodigy screens every day and once rewriting the code of an HR bot as it denied his request to leave. She found Joe in the Maginot wreck, fought a Xenomorph to save him and was left badly damaged, then heard the creatures speak to each other and learned to answer them. She later killed an adult male Xenomorph single-handed and began to command the young one raised in Kirsh's lab. When Prodigy turned on her brother and the hybrids, she called Kavalier a mean, angry little man, locked him up with his staff and announced that the Lost Boys now ruled Neverland.

Slightly

Slightly was born Aarush Singh, an Indian boy who was 11 years old when he became a hybrid. His father caught a cold and died in Mumbai, and after the family burned him on a holy pyre, Aarush worried every night that his father had not really been dead. He left behind a mother and brothers who still talked about him, and Morrow later found his mother, who had believed her son was dead. As a hybrid he still resented that Wendy got to see her family while he did not.

At the crash site Kirsh sent Slightly after Wendy, and he was the one who told Joe Hermit that his sister was Marcy. Among the eggs the cyborg Morrow caught him and later spoke to him through a hidden device, using threats against his family to make him deliver a human host. Slightly let a Facehugger loose on Arthur Sylvia and, with Smee, carried him toward the beach until a Chestburster tore out of him. Locked up and grounded by Kirsh, he was freed in the final uprising, and with Smee he found the broken synthetic on the lab floor and tied him up before he could recover.

Smee

Smee was born Christopher Okafor, and the hybrids remembered him as Chris when they found their own graves. His age at the time of the transfer and the illness that brought him to Prodigy were never stated. As a hybrid he was Slightly's best friend, and Wendy said that Smee did not like being alone. He told Joe Hermit that the hybrids could go two years without recharging.

In the Maginot he was sent to bring Slightly back for Kirsh, and the two of them were caught by Morrow among the eggs. When Slightly confessed that Morrow was threatening his family, Smee reluctantly helped him carry the infected Arthur through the facility, and he wondered aloud why Kirsh had not got them into trouble. Both boys ended up in the cage with the other hybrids, and when the Lost Boys rose up, Wendy sent him and Slightly after Kirsh and the cyborg. Smee was the one who tied up Kirsh in the lab, telling him that his time was done and that it was their time now.

Curly

Curly was born Jane Mita, a terminally ill girl who could not walk and needed a wheelchair before her mind was moved into a hybrid body. She was about 12 at the time, among the oldest of the children, and she was the last of the group to go through the transfer. Before the procedure one of the children asked Wendy whether they would be able to walk again, and Wendy promised they would walk, run, jump and dance. One of the children recalled that in the book, the character Curly was nicknamed Pickles because she was always getting into trouble.

Curly went into the Maginot wreck with Kirsh's group, and back on Neverland she assisted Kirsh when he dissected one of the eggs. She resented the favour Kavalier showed Wendy, defended Nibs against her and called Dame Sylvia mom when she wanted comfort. Locked in the cage with the others, she insisted that Prodigy had saved them and that they could not die. When the hybrids took the island, Wendy sent her after the soldiers, and she answered that her name was Jane.

Tootles

Tootles, who renamed himself Isaac, feeding a specimen in the Neverland lab in Alien: Earth

Tootles was born Steven Dimarco, and his mother called him Steve-O. He was about 12 when he became a hybrid, one of the two oldest of the group alongside Curly. His illness before the transfer was never named. The other children joked that in the book Tootles always missed everything because he had stepped off round the corner, and on the Maginot Kirsh set him to watch a strange plant creature while the others found a way to trap it.

On Neverland he asked Kirsh for a real name fit for a grown man and a scientist, and chose Isaac after Isaac Newton. He uploaded zoology and advanced biology from Arthur's chips so that he could help in the lab, and when Kirsh flew to the Yutani hearing he was left to feed the creatures and pick the next experiment. Alone with the specimens, he was manipulated by the T. Ocellus into locking himself into the habitat of the fly species, which killed him. In the cell, Slightly told the others that his name had been Steven, and the death showed the hybrids that they could die after all.

Nibs

Nibs pressed against a wall in the Neverland facility in Alien: Earth

Nibs was born Rose Ellis, and she grew up on a farm. She hated being sick and found it frightening, lying in bed every night thinking she could die. When the children arrived on Neverland she asked Wendy whether she had been sick too, and asked when they would get to go home, only to be told that they would not. Standing among the graves, she later said that Rose Ellis was what she had been called before.

After the Maginot mission Nibs became convinced she was pregnant and told Dame Sylvia she was going to have a baby. Prodigy found what it called a glitch in her subroutines and removed the memories, leaving her unable to recall the crash, the fighting or what she had said, which turned Wendy against the scientists. She later joined Wendy's attempt to leave the island and ended up in the cage with the rest of the Lost Boys. When they broke out, Wendy sent her to find Dame Sylvia.

Conclusion

The Lost Boys began as six dying children, Marcy, Aarush, Chris, Jane, Steven and Rose, who believed that their new bodies could never grow old or get cancer. Kavalier used them as his first test in the Maginot wreck, Morrow turned Slightly against Prodigy, and Isaac died in the lab. In the end the hybrids caged Kavalier, Kirsh and Dame Sylvia, and Wendy declared that they now ruled Neverland as Yutani's forces closed in.
