Cleopatra Predator: The Female Yautja Who Defeated Dutch
Cleopatra was a female Yautja who appeared in Predator: Hunting Grounds. She became known for ambushing Dutch Schaefer's team in Laos, wiping out most of the unit, and leaving Dutch alive after defeating him. Her ornate Egyptian-inspired armor, short decorated dreadlocks, and ruthless hunting style made her one of the more memorable female Predators in modern lore. Here is an overview of Cleopatra, including her backstory, weapons, encounter with Dutch, and place among other themed Yautja hunters.
The Predator "Cleopatra"
Cleopatra was introduced through the OWLF tapes and downloadable content for Predator: Hunting Grounds. She was at least a Blooded Yautja, but her skill level seemed far above a regular hunter hinting at the Elite rank. Sean Keyes described her armor as ornate and almost Egyptian in its regal design, which later tied into her name. Her reputation came from a single brutal encounter in Laos, where she showed enough skill, patience, and confidence to become a serious threat to OWLF. Cleopatra was one of many Predators inspired by historical human armor, such as the Samurai Predator.

Cleopatra's Backstory
Cleopatra's backstory was described both in Predator: Hunting Grounds and the Predator: Stalking Shadows book. In March 2008, Sean Keyes sent a team to investigate a village in Laos. Cleopatra used a human skull impaled on her Combistick to draw them into the open, then attacked from concealment. When the soldiers tried to regroup, she cut them down with her plasma caster and other weapons. Dutch challenged her by taking her spear and offering himself as prey, but Cleopatra pinned him to a wall with her Netgun and finished off the remaining survivors before vanishing into the jungle.
Sparing Dutch
Cleopatra's strangest choice was letting Dutch live. She had him trapped, wounded, and helpless, but relaxed the net instead of taking his skull. The moment may have been professional respect, a warning, or a way to leave a scar on someone already famous for surviving Yautja hunts. Whatever the reason, it made Cleopatra stand out from hunters who usually treated a defeated armed opponent as a trophy. Dutch was left with a permanent grid-like scar on the right side of his face, a similar fate to the Grid Alien from AvP 2004.
Personality and Hunting Style
Cleopatra was described as smarter, deadlier, and more direct than the male Predators encountered by Dutch. Like other modern female Yautja, she seemed to be more agile and slightly smaller than males. She did not waste time playing with her targets or giving them many chances to fight back. Her ambush in Laos showed a hunter who preferred control, traps, ranged attacks, and fast kills. However, she was not completely predictable, since she spared an armed opponent after winning, leaving the reason open to interpretation.
Armor and Weapons
Cleopatra carried a strong set of Predator technology, including a bio-mask, wrist gauntlet, wristblades, cloaking device, plasma caster, Combistick, Netgun, and Smart Disc. Her Smart Disc had rotating blades, giving her a signature weapon that helped separate her from standard hunters. Visually, her armor used an Ancient Egyptian motif, while her short black dreadlocks were tipped with gold ornaments. This regal look made Cleopatra feel less like a generic game skin and more like a named Yautja with a clear theme.

Other Similar Predators
Cleopatra fits well beside other themed Predators from Predator: Hunting Grounds. The Nightstorm Predator also used an Egyptian motif, with desert colors, ornate armor, and a pharaoh-like appearance. Cleopatra's design was more regal and personal, while Nightstorm looked closer to a ceremonial desert hunter. She also has similarities with the Valkyrie Predator, another female Yautja from the game inspired by Norse and Viking imagery instead of Egyptian royalty.
Conclusion
Cleopatra was one of the most dangerous female Yautja introduced in modern Predator lore. Her name and appearance were likely inspired by the historical Cleopatra VII, the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, who became one of the most famous queens of the ancient world. Her story was short, but it established her as a hunter who relied on traps, stealth, and brutal efficiency instead of showmanship. By defeating Dutch and choosing not to kill him, Cleopatra gained a reputation that still separates her from most other Predators in the franchise.
