Luna: The Scarred Huntress Who Died On Titan
Luna was a female Yautja in Tim Lebbon's The Titans, collected in Predator: Eyes of the Demon in 2022. Corporal Jeremiah Beck blasted her helmet during a fight at Rankin Station and left a crescent wound on her face, and he called her Luna for that mark. Decades later she set a scarred ship down at Hamilton Base on Titan, where Beck had been living since the rescue.
Biography
Rankin Station
Luna was with a hidden hunting band at abandoned Rankin Station, where the band had been using the site as a staging post. Corporal Jeremiah Beck of the 13th Spaceborne, the Unluckies, was there with a nine-person platoon on the strike-ship Aragorn. Those Colonial Marines belonged to the same far-future service that later fought the Rage War in 2692, in Predator: Incursion.
Six of the nine Marines died in the first attack, and Melton and Lincoln died when the platoon made a last counterattack. Beck blasted Luna's helmet in that fight and opened a crescent wound on her face, and he named her for the shape of that wound. The Unluckies set the station to break up, Aragorn was left wrecked and empty, and Beck reached an escape pod with a ruined left arm, half his stomach gone, and the suit melted into the burns. The pod held him in hypersleep for more than three decades.
Hamilton Base
Luna found him at Hamilton Base, a terraforming post on Titan. After the rescue he was seventy and had been the base librarian for sixteen years, with a rebuilt arm, a stoma bag, and a glass eye. About two hundred people lived at the site. A new arrival named Bindy had just asked him about the old strike-ship when Luna's ship set down on pad three with the door blown from the outside.
Beck told Bindy to hide, sent Chief Bill Stannard to get the civilians clear, and took the chief's pistol and a long knife. A surface technician near the landing pad was already gutted when Beck got there. He sent two children off in another direction and shouted so Luna would follow him instead of the atmosphere plants, and Stannard had a fueled Sandbug waiting in Bay Two for that run.
The Sandbug
Luna had aged across the years since Rankin Station, including the decades Beck spent in hypersleep. She had one good eye, grey in the dreadlocks, and the same crescent from his helmet blast above a ruined mandible. In Bay Two, Beck shut the doors on her arm and put three shots from Stannard's pistol into that hand. She followed the Sandbug out into Titan's storm with the hand ruined.
Death On The Ice
Beck bailed out of the Sandbug in the storm and raised his hands. Luna drove a double-bladed glaive through his chest. He cut her throat with the knife from his sleeve, and the hand crushed in the bay door, already shot three times, could not fire the self-destruct. Both of them died on the ice, and Bindy, Bill Stannard, and the processor crews were not caught in a suit blast.
Appearance And Weapons
At Rankin Station, Luna wore a helmet, and Beck's blast left a crescent on the face under it and ruined a mandible. On Titan she carried a double-bladed glaive. The self-destruct was in the wrist gauntlet on the arm the Bay Two doors caught, and three pistol shots into that hand left her unable to fire the charge. Her ship on pad three had the outer door blown.
Confirmed Kills
Luna's named kill was Corporal Jeremiah Beck, on the ice at Hamilton Base. A surface technician was already gutted when Beck reached the pad after her ship set down, and that worker is not named. Six Marines died in the first attack at Rankin Station, and Melton and Lincoln died in the counterattack, during a fight that included the rest of her hunting band.
- Jeremiah Beck: glaive through the chest on the ice. She died in the same exchange.
- Surface technician: found gutted after her ship landed. No name is given.
- Rankin Station: six Marines in the first attack, then Melton and Lincoln. Those deaths are counted with the hunting band.
- Self-destruct: 0. The ruined hand could not fire it. Bindy, Stannard, and the processor crews lived.
Similar Predators
Vagouti died in an Oregon forest after she and her mate Nakande hunted Sloane, a sniper who had killed Yautja in Alaska nine years earlier. Ak'kili, Donatiki, La'vindi, and R'Kyn were named huntresses in Predator: Eyes of the Demon, and they lived through those hunts. Ak'kili took three heads on a desert world, Donatiki left a Hastings field with a newborn, La'vindi killed Zalande and left her clan, and R'Kyn left Rome after taking Tracey Dahl's head.
Conclusion
Luna was a female Yautja who fought Jeremiah Beck's platoon at Rankin Station, where his blast left a crescent on her face. She found him decades later at Hamilton Base on Titan, killed him with a double-bladed glaive, and died on the ice when he cut her throat. Her mangled hand never fired the self-destruct, and the people he had sent clear of the atmosphere plants lived.
