Plot Summary
The Outpost
The Outpost was a station where people like the smuggler sold stolen technology out of the company's sight. She had come for ammo and parts for her ship, and she did not mean to stay. Someone on the station had tried to sell Xenomorphs on the black market, and that deal had failed. Everyone aboard was dead. A hunter she called Lefty had followed her from world to world, and she had not lost him. Her motion tracker was quiet, and she did not trust the quiet.
The Attack
Four adult Xenomorphs came at her in the corridors of the Outpost, all of them in plain sight. She read a count that high as a bad sign, because the ones she could see meant the station held more. She shot the creatures at the doors, lost the last of the four, and that one pinned her on the floor with the gun out of her hand.
The Rescue
The hunter she called Lefty came through the Xenomorphs that had her pinned. He killed the one on her with a disc, and acid from that Xenomorph damaged the disc. The creatures on her were no match for him. He had saved her after she had cheated him in the past. She asked whether he had let an old injury to an eye go. He answered in his own language, and she let the question drop. She made herself stop moving, breathing, and blinking. Another rush of Xenomorphs broke that pause, and the two of them fought the creatures side by side.
The Ship
They fought a way toward her ship, and she fired into the Xenomorphs crowded around Lefty. She ran ahead, then went back when the swarm closed over him. She found his wrist nuke, a device from an older quarrel between them, threw it to him, and expected him to use it, but he did not. He answered in his own language, and she left him there.
Orbit
She expected the wrist nuke she had thrown him to destroy the Outpost within seconds of her launch. He did not use it, and the blast never came. Her ship was in orbit, closer to the station than she had meant to be. She decided Lefty had gotten away and would come after her again. She was short a wrist nuke after that, and she took the escape for a sneaky one.
